I certainly can't picture Darth Maul shouting, "Nooooooooooooooooooo!"

how would you feel if you spent your life working on movies and everyone got mad at you for trying to make them better and rereleasing them
I would take a moment to realise how far out of touch I'd become, if I'm at the point of alienating my own fans.

Seriously, I don't think Lucas knows or even really cares what people love about his movies. Their his movies alone, in his eyes.

Case in point: http://www.geekologie.com/2008/05/george-lucas-wearing-han-shot.php on the set of one of his movies wearing a T-shirt that says "Han shot first." As in... he either doesn't get the joke at all, or he does and it's just a big middle finger to everyone else.

Didn't Lucas have something to do with rushing KotOR II?

He's not out of touch, not as badly as other directors and such anyway. The thing that I like about him, and he's right in saying so, is that he realizes Star Wars is HIS. Sure, it's ours, but we didn't create it, HE did. Yes, you do have to cater to your fans to a point, but in the end it should be YOUR movie, and if you decide to make a few small changes to your movie, so be it. He's the rightful creator of Star Wars, and as such he has the right to change it as he sees fit.

Now, that DOESN'T mean I agree with some of the changes, but he's well within his right to do so.

Star Wars nerd moment/
I'd say he was actually Palpatine's best apprentice. He was certainly the only one who could have become a true Sith Master, Jedi never make good Sith.

I haven't yet. But I'm going to go next week. I'm of the old crowd who likes the old movies but I also enjoyed the new movies and even like the cartoon. So, yes I'm going to see it. Just not sure when.

Just got back from seeing it. I enjoyed it. There wasn't a lot to the 3D, just some depth to the picture, but I enjoyed seeing the movie on the big screen. I hadn't seen it in several years and I've come to the conclusion that it's not really that bad of a movie. Jar Jar didn't even bother me, I just accepted it and he made a lot of the young kids in the theater laugh a lot so I realize that's why he was put in there and I just laughed with them and had a good time.

Jar Jar isn't really the reason why I didn't I like that movie, I did like that he got slightly more sedate in the following movies though. The real reason is that [censored] kid, that is some of the worst acting I have ever seen.

I'm not judging you for liking it, its just not for me.

What do you mean? Zabrak aren't built to be evil. A Zabrak isn't going to be more evil than a Twi'lek, just because he's a Zabrak.

not to mention his race is built to be evil

Actually, evil and good is a shady area when it comes to Star Wars and Sith. Often, we see the Dark Side as evil and the Force as good. But are they really?

"You may think I am evil. I am not. I am efficient."-Darth Maul.

'Good is a point of view."-Darth Sidious.

"From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!"-Darth Vader.

"Evil is a word used by the ignorant and the weak. The dark side is about survival. It's about unleashing your inner power. It glorifies the strength of the individual."-Darth Zannah.

"Why would you take a gift as glorious as the force and squander it? weaken yourself deliberatly and shackle yourself to outdates mores? Our gift is what made us superior. It is our rightful place to rule. How can you deny that? yet the Jedi do so... and call us evil because we do not." -Yuthura Ban

"Jedi! Their order is a fading light in the dark…corrupt and arrogant."-Asajj Ventress.

The way I see it, Sith is good, Jedi evil.

All that is required of the Sith is that they be themselves and make their own choices, acknowledging the truth that real peace does not exist and pursuing their goals with the fullness of their passion. This is not, in and of itself, evil. The good or evil of the Sith? code lies solely in the goals of the individual Sith. It is, at it's core, a celebration of freedom and humanity. The ideal of the Jedi on the other hand is essentially to be soulless droids. A Jedi is not allowed to know love, the greatest motivator and purpose of life, the Jedi is not allowed anger, even when anger is called for, the Jedi is not allowed grief, no matter how great the loss, the Jedi is not allowed fear, even though fear leads to self-preservation. The Jedi is? not allowed humanity, in the philosophical sense, though supposedly his goal is to preserve it. The Jedi code is inherently evil, because it asks of it's followers that they be less than human, that they sacrifice in their own lives all of the aspects that make those lives worth living,to the point that the last line of their code becomes sad prophecy. There truly is no death for a Jedi, because before something can die, it must first live, and for the Jedi there? is no life, only the force. An order dedicated to the eradication of the soul and opposed to individual idea is not good.

This is a very good point indeed. On the surface the Star Wars morality scale might seem very black and white, but it's actually quite gray in that there's merit to both sides of the philosophy. That isn't to say Darth Vader is not evil - clearly, one cannot rationally condone his twisted methods - but if you delve into the canon of Jedi lore there are many references to harnessing "inner darkness" to become a more powerful Jedi; parts that specifically refer to Mace Windu, for example, and not one of the Sith. The difference is that Jedi relinquish such power once its need has passed, while those who fall to the dark side do so because they cannot let go of that power... That is their true weakness: their frailty and reliance on the illusion of ultimate strength. This is why Obi-wan sacrifices himself in Episode IV - he knows that victory with Vader is not possible or even the objective, so he chooses to become a guiding force for Luke to win the war instead. (Well, they don't quite win the war of course, but that's how the ending of A New Hope is playing out...)

However, I don't entirely agree with the sterile depiction of Jedi as "mindless drones" as they appear in episodes 1-3. This is one of the many flaws I find with the prequel trilogy: Yoda's teachings in Empire Strikes Back are more emotional, though still detached and controlled. The whole point is to feel the Force, not be utterly void. Compassion, humor, even love are not frowned on at all - Obi-wan even says, "Bury your feelings. They do you credit, but they could be made to serve the emperor." They recognise the potential dangers of emotion, certainly, but it's not inherently evil; it merely requires balanced judgement. Once again, Lucas manages to retcon a perfectly good faux-zen philosophy into a creepy, soulless cult. "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, yada yada..." is all utter nonsense. The truest Jedi use aggression to win their most crucial battles, then turn away from it because they have that strength of mind.

SNIP
Well, it all depends on your definition of evil, Sith view Jedi as corrupt and sometimes evil. Dooku refered to Yoda as a shriveled evil green potato. Starkiller once in the novels thought that the lightside was corrupt and when he killed Shaak-Ti, the balance on Felucia was restored. Jedi want peace and security. Sith want order and stability. Jedi do it with the thought of everyone in mind, selfless. Sith only care about themselves, yet in a way they do commit good deeds.

For example, the Republic was mirred in corruption pre Empire era. How many times did you see security on Tatooine? None. It was lawless. After the Empire, the Sith had tons of Stormtroopers everywhere. Even slavery was abolished when the Empire was in power. Sith use fear to control the masses, does that mean they are totally mindless psychotic killers? Not really. If it doesn't offer personal advacement or has no purpose in their death, they don't kill. As Darth Bane said, "We must recognize that killing for sadistic pleasure - killing without reason, need or purpose - is the act of a fool."

Sith believe in freedom of the self, not others. Sidious saw himself as a savior when he ruled te galaxy and enforcing order.

Ancient Sith culture had marriage, yes. Though advltery was frowned upon and often resulted in death of the spouse who commited it. And even Sith Lords could breed to produce stronger offspring. We see many Sith get into romance, such as Darth Revan and Bastila, Darth Vader and Padme, Darth Bane an Githany. Stuff like that. They use love as a raw emotion to get things done.

"I'm doing this for you, to protect you."-Darth Vader says after he killed countless Jedi and he wiped out the seperatist leaders.

I'm not really bothered about episodes 1, 2 and 3. But I'm way too young to have seen the original trilogy in the cinema, and that's what I'm excited about.

Are they redoing those in 3D too?

I saw the prequel trilogy before the original, and just recently I watched the unedited original trilogy for the first time (before the special edition changes). I actually prefer the original trilogy without the out of place CG added, but I doubt that's what they're showing in the theater.

I may go see it. I could care less about 3D, but I liked all of the Star Wars movies to some degree. Episode I was actually better than II in my eyes (besides that Yoda fight at the end.) Everyone knows that V is the best, though...

Gonna watch A New Hope tonight.

As for I, II, and III, I believe I only watched I from these 3 (the one with Jar Jar Binks and the kid) and I thought it was crappy (hence why I didn't watch II and III).

You're missing out then. The prequels get better after I. III is definitely my favorite of the new ones.

Just saw The Phantom Menace and the 3D effects were actually tolerable, perhaps because they really didn't go overboard. I went in expecting them to force everything in your face, but most of the effect was fairly subtle. Hopefully the rest of the films are the same way, as I'm really only going to see them in theaters again.

As for the film itself, it's still not really what I'd consider bad. I'm hardly an experienced critic, but the podracing, lightsaber duels and the assault on the Control Station were all fun (well, the few scenes before Anakin flew in) and that played a large part in attracting me to the Original Trilogy when I was little. Nowhere near the Original Trilogy, obviously, but I'm still glad the Prequels were made.

Five more to go.
