Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 3D

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 10:21 am

So who's seen it so far? I'm going in about 5 hours, but haven't really been able to find anyone to go with yet. I'll be wearinghttp://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10102260269024644&l=412ac95f6c.

I'm pretty excited. A lot of people are like 'why waste money, just watch the Blu Ray' but it's not the same. I remember how exciting it was to see Star Wars in theaters when episode I first came out in high school (now I meet people whose first Star Wars movie was Episode I in elementary school. For them they actually like the prequels better than the original trilogy).

Anyway: :starwars:

I can understand why people like the whole 3D-craze, but I've never been a fan of it myself. I honestly don't go to the theaters at all anymore (probably like once a year on average), and won't see these.

In my honest opinion, this was Lucas' "parting gift" to the world. He sets a release schedule of all the Star Wars movies in 3D which will divide the community between love and hate, and then retires :P.

I don't get the whole love / hate thing. I was reading something yesterday (I think part of it was an interview with Lucas) that was like I-III is intended for an entirely different audience than IV-VI. It was meant to be Star Wars for a new generation. If the fans of the original don't like it, then tough, they have IV-VI and kids these days have I-III. Like I've said I've met a lot of younger kids who HATE IV-VI but love I-III. It's obvious they're for two different kinds of people.

I love both trilogies myself. I was born in the 80's and just happened to watch Star Wars on VHS. I wasn't part of the original release or anything. And then I-III came along and it was like 'sweet, I get to see Star Wars in theaters' and I enjoyed it.

But as Lucas said, it's just a movie, not a religious event, get over it.

the lion king 3d, titanic 3d, star wars 3d... Hollywood has always been fond of remakes, and now they just re release old movies after adding some 3d effects to them. Kind of sad to think that movies with original scripts/ideas have to compete with simple re releases of this kind (that are sure to attract many moviegoers). No, I won't be seeing episode 1 in 3d, I already spent enough money on this (imo) quite average movie.

I saw it at midnight Thursday. Quite good as always.

For those of you who dislike the prequels... They're better than Twilight.

Phantom Menace was meh, it was good in some areas. Not so good in others. So overall not a bad movie. Attack of the Clones was truly the worst movie, and one of the worst movies ever. It was just sooo bad on a whole new level. I have a hard time thinking of worse movies. It was bad. I'm sure there are worse movies out there, but attack of the clones fails spectacuarily as Star Wars and as a movie. Revenge of the Sith is actually pretty good, not great but good. Enough for me to remember it and fondly remember a few good bits from it now and again. The original triology though is my prefered.

My favourites.

Attack of the Clones is still a better love story than Twilight.

Except with all of the changed to the original trilogy even those who like those may start to dislike them more.

Better than bad doesn't mean good, so that's not a very convincing defense.

I'd rather not waste $16 on a mediocre movie I've seen before just because it's in 3D, which I don't care about.

Attack of the Clones has a better love story then Twilight ?
Anakin comments genocide and tells Padme who in turn tells him to be angrey is human and merries him at the end knowing damn full well Anakin just killed every man, woman and child in the Tuskin Raider's village and she loves him for it? That is not a love story---THAT is a poorly writen character relationship development right there. Not only that but the way George worte their realtionship is nothing more then two characters forced to fall in love with each other.

One of my friends posted a picture on facebook of him with a bunch of Star Wars 1 3D-swag in a movie theatre.

I immediately unfriended him.

I disagree. Attack of the Clones is by far the worst love story I have ever seen in a film. It's fanfic bad. I find it totally unbelievable that Natalie Portman's character would even like, let alone fall in love with, Anakin Skywalker. It gets to the heart of my problem with the prequels in general, which is that Anakin is a whiny, creepy narcissist with no redeeming qualities. Lucas chose to make the entire Star Wars saga into the Anakin Skywalker story, but simultaneously chose to make Anakin as unsympathetic and annoying as possible.

I would say that Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels, largely because Anakin is still a child and has not yet grown into the loathsome waste of space we get in the later movies.
