Yeah, they also replaced StarCraft II with Diablo III... wait a minute... it's like they do their sequels and franchises in some sort of... one at a time order type thing...
Maybe, but blizzard doesn't seem even slightly interested in keeping the warcraft series going. They've got D3 and Starcraft Heart of the Swarm to work on.

Not the point.

Adding all the crap you'd need to make co-op work (engine adjustments, world scaling to account for people coming and going, NPC and quest interactions with multiple people there, enemy spawn adjustments, etc, etc, etc) would all 1. take additional time and effort (reducing the amount of time & effort to allocate to the just-singleplayer-thanks game), and 2. increase the complexity / bugs / problems.

Having a separate company make a separate game with the separate goal of specifically being multiplayer - much less chance of screwing up singleplayer TES.

(also, making default TES have an MP option would likely be the end of modding on the PC. Because otherwise.... what are the odds of the people you want to play with having the same mod setup?)

Co-Op wouldn't concern itself with scales or balance...you would be invited into the world as is...nothing would change. I don't care if I could bring down a dragon twice as fast if I could share the experience with a close friend.

"Doesn't seem even slightly interested" sounds a lot like "I don't know what I'm talking about and am just making assumptions because I don't want an MMO to happen."

Bethesda Game Studios has nothing to do with this, Zenimax Online Studios is making this

Actually Zenimax is the media company which owns bethesda hence the similar company logos

Don't let Zenimax do it Beth!! Your single player games are incredible (and more-so when the community gets their construction kits to fix what is left broken)...but even with these flaws the game is so massive that it leaves us in awe. We are able to take time to dig deep into the world and lore. In an MMORPG, many players do not devote time to lore and exploration (things that TES games really do well in accommodating). TES games will not transfer well to an MMORPG unless major changes are made but then...would it be a TES game? Beth, we love yah even when you make our dragons fly backwards because we know that if you don't fix it the incredible modder community will. That modder community will not be at your disposal in such a capacity when you deal in MMOs.

Please Beth, TES games are one of my last bastions of sandbox freedoms that are apart from the MMO monotony. If you must though, dip your toes first. Offer online co-op/campaigning like Battle.net does with their non-MMO games (you pick the players you play with [husband/sister/friend from out of state]...NOT a random-match-up like COD/Dungeon Siege). That would work incredibly. I'd even pay a monthly sub so I can play Skyrim online with my husband and close friends...but NOT massively...NOOOOOOT massively....please.

I generally see nothing wrong with an MMO RPG game on xbox 360, PS3, and/or PC... It's just the fact that the game crashes for no particular reason that worries me. Seriously, I just can not see three or more people shouting at once and not see this game crash...no offense, Bethesda...

It's set in a different era, different time and we don't know anything about it except that It's called The Elder Scrolls online and that thingamabober in the background, and that there will be three factions and maybe all of tamriel.
Now can someone please lock this thread?

What's wrong with there being a bunch of people plus you, your husband, and close friends? You already said you're fine paying a monthly sub, so really the only difference will be that there will be a bunch of other people in the game as well as your friends. I understand that names like Rolf the Uber might take the role-playing aspect out a little, but assuming the game isn't tab-targeting (which seems to be what most people want), there won't be floating names above players' heads and you won't even see them.

Anyway, all of the TES games were arguably underpopulated, so making an MMO is a natural fix to that

Time after time, poll after poll and thread after thread, every time the question has been asked on these forums "Should TES be an mmo?", the results have always been a resounding "HELL NO!!!!"

Zenimax just showed how much they listen to Bethesda fan feedback.

Epic fail coming. Soon TES can join Knight of the Old Republic in the IP graveyard.

Edit: And after seeing the screenshots of TES Online using the HeroEngine ( ROFLMAO ), those of you willing to play that crap can enjoy Star Scrolls: The Elder Republic all you want. http://xbigygames.com/the-elder-scrolls-online-screenshots-and-details/

Game's been in development for five years now. They OPENED Zenimax Online to make this game... It's happening.

Also, from what I can tell, this doesn't stop development on an eventual Elder Scrolls 6. The game worlds are set wide enough apart to where this doesn't affect too much. Zenimax Media can LITERALLY have its cake and eat it too here.

...and I'm more than willing to pay for all the cake they want.

I'd Rather they do this than start wasting time and assets on putting multiplayer on future Elder Scrolls games.

Have no idea why my topic was deleted. But yea. Bethesda PLEASE do not venture into MMO Territory.
MMOs are volatile beasts and every single one of them are compared to WoW.

None have beat WoW so far, and i suspect the only company that can kill WoW is Blizzard themselves,
with their Titan Project.

Please Zenimax, Bethesda PLEASE RE-CONSIDER this decision!!!

Regions throughout the entire world of Tamriel will be playable for the first time, with a level a diversity that they would never commit to in a single player game, where they would doubt their own ability to recoup their investment. I'm just psyched about the different art styles that will be on display. It won't be perfect, and won't be as deep as Skyrim or Morrowind... but it will most likely be fun.

The fact that all regions will be open within one game is pretty much the most exciting aspect about it...but couldn't that be done in a single player just as well? When you say it won't be as deep as Skyrim or Morrowind (hey Oblivion was pretty deep too.) ...but you'll likely pay a sub compared to the non-subbed single player games...in the end, for me the only thing that has going for it is the fact it's a TES game.

I'm nervous (especially after seeing the screenshots [but hey it's still in development]) but it's a waiting game at this point.

Yeah, I'd rather they stick to the single player games so they can spend all those years focusing on the cultural and geographical variations within each province one at a time. Trying to cover so many provinces at once is... worrying.

Will it hurt the TES series though? Will bethesda suffer for Zenimax's failed MMO adaption? If not, then I can ignore it. However, I stick to my word when I say I would gladly pay monthly for a co-op option for Skyrim and any future TES games.

Why would anyone pay monthly for a co-op game. This generation of gamers svcks.

This generation? I'm 30 years old. XD

I still would pay for a co-op though but only for TES games and only because I have the mad cash to spare for it and have always put my money towards all-things-TES in hopes that my contribution will keep the franchise making excellent massive single player sandbox RPGs.

I would like to clearly state you are wrong and that you have probably had a bad experience with them...but finally seeing TESO really seems very cool...

Only thing I'm worried about is on the off chance that it svcks... Elder Scrolls fans will be mocked. I mean look at Skyrim, to us it was a beautiful, rich, fresh, yet familiar Elder Scrolls game (for the most part.) but then it was hyped up and spread to other gamers who don't even know what Morrowind looks like who now complain that it's a freakish, buggy abomination.

*sigh* Just let it happen, if it svcks, then go play the singleplayer games. Who cares?

I wont have any problem with this MMO as long as
a. Its not a horrible game
b. It doesn't screw with the lore
c. It doesn't effect their ability to make a good single player game

Rational logical thinking dictates that they would not be canceling the release of TESO. The question simply remains on, if they are taking notes on the list of complains by their TES fan-base on the revealed features and addressing them. Or is the producer fully intended on making DAOC2 with TES skin.
