I've killed chauruses at Level 2 before on Adept. It isn't very hard if you know what you're doing

novice?... sorry, sorry, but you can kill one in a few hits without any weapons on novice, but on a whole they are the most annoying enemy in the game (cause that spit, damn that spit!!! and the fact that it is border-line impossible to dodge that spit because they are never more than a few feet away at any given time since they all lurk in caves)

I played on Novice for quite some time, and still had a lot of difficulty with lots of enemies. Why? Because I didn't walk around in legendary Daedric armor and carry a legendary Daedric sword ;)

Okay so, I'm playing on Novice and am a level 30. I realize as I level up, the enemies level up as well, but the Chaurus are so frustrating and annoying! They are way to hard to kill. My follower keeps dying, I have to load a new save and just because I'm a level thirty doesn't mean Ill be better at killing stuff. Stop making the game so hard. If I wanted it to be like this I would have put it on Master. These were seriously the worst invention Bethesda could come up with. They ruin the game.
Dude everyone has those moments. figure out a way to do it and prevail!

play your cards right and you can :shifty: but i have to agree they are a bit over the top considering they are supposed to be cattle or pets to the falmer who are actually much weaker than them
well bulls are cattle to humans, but i'd much rather take on a ranch hand than a full grown steer...

What do you guys think best way to deal with chauruses?

They have very high damage attack and their poison attack seems a lot stronger than anything else. High armor rating and poison resistance would help if you are going melee. Probably better idea is to keep distance and shoot them from distance. Archery or destruction.

In one game I was level 5 warrior on adept. I would die instantly if I went head to head. I would sneak and get one or two arrow shot in, and sprint away and sneak after getting some distance when I was out of line of sight. Wait until they gave up, and repeat.

Yeah, I did it with my Bosmer archer character. If you sneak attack them, sneak out of distance, rinse and repeat, it's actually pretty easy. It also helps a lot if you have poison resistance.

When the Chaurus goes to spit its venom, used the highly advanced and complicated tactic of stepping to the side to avoid the attack.

You didnt play oblivion right? You should have seen the level scaling there ^^
Also are you playing a mage? warrior?thief, assassin? a little of everything?
Level 30 is actually a difficult phase

I did in fact play Oblivion. For a VERY LONG time. And I'm a warrior/mage.

Oh really? Because I'm level 30 and they level up with you. Meaning they get much harder as you level up. I've played this game since the day it came out and restarted many many times. I think I know how hard it is to kill a Chaurus. Thanks for the advice.

I was playing with an unleveled world mod, so it wasn't a "low level" chaurus. I wasn't attacking you, just saying. I've played since day 1 too

Has it ever occurred to you that some enemies are not meant to be easy kills?

Use a bow. I one shot a Chaurus with a bow every time ever since level 25, they are not hard to kill at all. If I use sneak to creep up on the target, the double damage from a bow can even take out a dungeon boss in 3 shots, if you get the triple bow damage perk with sneak, a boss goes down in 2 shots.

Alternatively, with swords, you have to keep moving and get some enchants on your gear and jewelry - Fortify one handed, (or two handed if you use it) and add fire, frost or sparks damage to the sword(s) to boost your DPS. Basic swords without DPS enchants seem very underpowered compared to basic bows from my point of view. I dual wield normally if I don't use a bow but sneaking up on a target to get close enough to get the sword sneak bonus is much harder and it can take a lot of hacking to kill something. With a Chaurus, I usually run up and attack fast, I quite often get the custscene where I ram the sword into the back of it's neck and kill it with one blow.

Many enemies in Skyrim have different tactics so you have to change yor tactics to beat them. If you rely on the same tactics for every enemy, you will die a lot.

Have some resist poison potion. Lately I've been finding resist poison and disease effects on gear to disenchant, which I never did before. I'm hoping the devs might put in fortify enchanting effect as well, because the vanila potion you can create with Alchemy max out is pretty lame.

Their obnoxious poison spit attack can be blocked with a ward since it counts as a magic attack. Shields can't block magic.
And that's how I learned how to defeat Charus.
There is a Blocking perk which allows you to block magic actually. To the OP, I have to say this is one of the very few arguments about how the game is too easy. Especially on novice difficulty. Honestly if it is the follower being killed a bunch, I wouldn't blame the difficulty, but rather the stupidity of the friendly AI. Those followers are not the smartest fighters by any means.
