£5 a month / £60 a year. Rather than £9 a month / £108 a year.
I can just imagine this at a restaurant.
You want 60 dollars for this steak? You know I can buy steak at the store, right? Why would I pay for that steak when I could buy 4 or 5 steaks somewhere else? This restaurant is greedy!
60 dollars for a steak? I don't know. I'm on the fence. I tell you what, I'll pay you 60 bucks, but then I get to eat here for free for the rest of my life. Don't worry, I'll still pay for the drinks when I'm thirsty.
60 dollars for a steak? Sounds kind of high. I'll make you a deal. You charge me just 20 and I'll think of coming back as a full time customer.
I can not believe you are charging me 60 dollars. Have you never heard McDonalds? Why can't you just use that payment plan? They are a great food service. You are doomed to fail.
I......you.....but.......damnit. I hate to say it, but I agree with you.
Isn't $15 sort of cheap anyway these days? In the UK almost all living costs have increased since the launch of WoW and yet the sub has stayed the same. Not sure how things are in other countries though so it might just be a UK issue, but for me, the subscription cost in 2014 being the same as it was in 2004 is actually a bit of a boon.
You should add.
See that guy over there he is drinking water with his steak and I'm drinking a Coke, yeah its my choice but I deserve a discount because my choice costs more.
Well the US dollar really got affected by inflation so i guess to countries that use euros or pounds in uk 15$ really seems cheaper. Meanwhile in the nordic and eastern European countries where governments are made by monkeys in suits the foreign prices can seem a little expensive and rising by the day, same applies to Россия-Матушка and China (but chinese are lucky enough to have separate adapted services most of the time due to their alphabet and communist reign >.< )
I'm comfortable with the 15$/month, not too comfortable with the 60$ price tag though. Anything above 15$ for the sub fee would probably be pushing it for me.
Both Sony and Microsoft are stupid, they need to rethink that . . . and that's just like my opinion man LOL
Do we know how much they are charging? I am just curious . . .
80€/year is the maximum I'm comfortable with, 60€/year is probably optimal for both consumer and developer. Converting puts it at 9-10 $ per month and 6-7 $ per month. However, box price will influence.
And I plan to play on PC . . . my PS3 has been relegated to an expensive Netflix TV device =P
Who says it's not steak? You? What if I think it IS steak? Go eat your McDonalds, and leave me my ESteakO.
And while you're right, paying more doesn't always equate to more quality... I can look around and make some pretty safe bets. WoW is better than GW2. Eve is better than Eden Eternal. FFXIV is better than Tera.
I've played enough ESO to know that ESO > Any F2P or B2P out there, and therefore I can safely say that the quality is not only higher, but worth 50 cents a day. Hell, I just ate a $5.00 burrito from Taco-Bell and it's rauaging my bowels, I could have made a much better burrito at home for closer to $1.50.
You don't like the cost? Don't pay it! You guys act like there's a government mandate here, like the videogame equivalent to Obamacare.
MS/Sony? Last pricing I've seen for Live/Plus puts it at $5 a month (though I've seen others say it's $10), but I don't pay much attention, as they're services that I wouldn't pay for either way. My consoles are for single-player gaming, and I only even have the free accounts so I can log into the store and buy old games for cheap (played the original Final Fantasy for the first time in nearly 20 years this spring, it's still my second favorite in the series).
$5 /month would be low enough that I wouldn't mind playing other games instead of ESO for most of it. Any more than that and I'll be cancelling my sub every time another big game is released. It's up to ZOS if they want to risk the chance of me never coming back.
OR
$0 /month and a cash shop.
BUT
$60 up front + $15 a month + a cash shop = HAHA! Good luck, and enjoy the press 6-12 months after launch as you announce the F2P transition. You get everything coming your way if you're THIS out of touch with consumers. Only loyal ESO fans on forums like this will pay such ludicrous amounts.
I'm fine with 15(Voted 14 because 15-20 is different than just 15) although I think 10 would be more reasonable. Really, the only reason every MMO goes with 15 is because WoW is getting away with it.
Domino, out of curiosity, what's the last big game you purchased? I'm willing to play this little scenario out with anyone, let's talk entertainment.
I have played ESO. It is steak to me.
Just because I'm paying more money doesn't mean it's higher quality, however, because it is higher quality, I am willing to pay more.
Please don't call me a svcker. That is just rude.
I will enjoy ESO at launch. I guess you can wait to see if it fails.
Have a nice day.
I just pre-ordered Etrian Odyssey IV which seems pretty big, cost £27. Interested to see this scenario play out. Curious about it!
I can see where you're going with that, but really, the amount of time played compared to the cost is different for many games. For example, one of the last games I bought at full price was Dishonored on which I logged about 40 hours. On the other hand I paid just as much for Skyrim and have over 300 hours logged on that.
So yes, there's a big chance that MMO's are more than worth the sub when you compare it to single player games. However per year you can buy 3+ games for the money you spend on an MMO, of course there's a chance I end up getting 3 Dishonoreds, but there also is a chance I get 3 Skyrims.
(For the record, I'm fine with subs and will most likely be playing TESO)
