Subscription Price: Poll

Post » Sun Aug 25, 2013 9:47 am

In an attempt to calm the spirits a bit after i decided to make a poll topic like this after everyone freaked out (including me) when we heard ESO will be P2P at 15$ / month. I consider that a bit greedy but mostly because that is a considerable sum in my region.

Damn messed the title

@shasow, even tho i haven't played the beta, an mmo like this deserves a p2p system, the investment is just too great to cover it with 60$ / copy and keeping it running for years just off that.

I noticed there was nothing above 15, so nomatter what, at the end it can be argued that the average is less than 15.

Also, many people are obviously going to pick less money. Who wants to pay more money?

i personally wouldnt mind paying 15 to 20 euros a month, but the price is now at 13 euros a month which sounds like a normal price for any p2p mmo. hell, i payed that for rift for over a year.

p2p FTW

Please explain how your area's financial situation makes them greedy? I don't see the connection. It's been the standard for a long time, since before many of you played games I imagine....

Rift is now free-to-play and is making more money and has more players than ever.

It all depends on the game. If ZOS was asking me to pay $20-$25 a month to play this game they damn well better make a game good enough for it. I'm willing to pay for things that I feel are worth the asking price.

I edited the title to read Poll :) and voted. I am quite happy to pay 15$ a month, its a measly amount to pay for entertainment.

Fixed that :D

This topic's target is to stop people presenting their opinion in 10 posts and then starting a flame war and instead just put it in the pool and compare it to others w/o having to go trough all that rage from other topics and economy lessons learned from monkeys.

i can believe it's making more money then ever, even tho they have not released any indication of what they make or how many players play.

however with their current payment model only new players will want to pay, and afterwards there's absolutely no reason to pay them for anything.

This is why I'm laughing at these people talking about how they love to pay for subscriptions and it's totally worth it.

MAN I'D PAY MORE IF I COULD... Sure you would buddy. Sure you would.

I would pay $15 but probably not $20. I was hoping for $10 but am not unhappy with $15 at all.

Here's a comment (response) of mine on a ShoddyCast video, i'll just copy that, it explains pretty well how we see that sum here in Romania, and yes, TES games have a fans even here.

"A salary here is 200-250$ / month (for someone with no degree, like a student like me) so 20$ is 10% of your monthly income, also true is that our prices are sometimes 10 times lower for the exact same product westerners pay for, that's how global economy works, it adapts, i want to see a gaming company doing that, that'd show they are better at more than programming and graphics."

I do not want to insult anyone but now you know that some of us have a real reason for wanting a cheaper P2P subscription rather than "i already pay my xbox, my ps4 something service that costs a lot and 5 internetz, 15$ is too much for me".

Okay, now I have to ask. Is this what I want to pay, expect to pay, the most I would pay?

Actually I would pay more if the game warranted it. If they told me to pay $20 a month for it I will.

If my landlord wanted me to pay more to stay where I live then he would need to justify is reasoning for bumping up the price.

Just because you don't think that way doesn't mean everyone shares your train of thought.

That still does not make them greedy. Being a company makes them greedy. Which is perfectly what they should be.

And this is why subscription should be optional. You want to pay? Go ahead! Pay $15 a month, get points to spend in the cash shop for vanity items/temporary boosts/etc.... You don't want to pay? Well, you already did with the $60 box cost and possibly $60 for some expansions.

Playing is optional. There's nothing the subscription "should" be, just what they want it to be. We vote with our wallets.

I'm happy to pay $15 a month as long as everyone is paying it. I'm not interested in subsidizing consoles by paying more.

Both Sony and Microsoft are charging for their next-gen services. People aren't gonna pay more monthly fees just for the privilege to play on a console.

Ok I can see where it would be a hardship for you. However, if your prices are lower on some things, then that means that amount would go farther. Also, is that for full time work, ie around 40 hours a week? If not, then work more ;) If it is, then perhaps you would be better suited studying for that degree or finding another hobby that isn't quite so expensive.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to make light of your situation, or be dismissive. I am saying that your situation doesn't change someone else's situation. The majority of their target audience can afford $15/month, so that's a reasonable amount to charge. svck to not be able to pay it, and I've been there. Even to the point I wasn't sure i could afford to attend a PnP game due to the gas money it would take etc. So when I say study > playing, I say that because it worked for me. It's also doesn't hurt to marry a woman who plans to make 6 figures one day. ;)

PS: Don't let your wife start teaching. They may decide to pass up being a Nurse *insert word involving knocking people out for surgery* which starts at around 96K/yr and decide to teach for living, which leads to wanting a doctorate which costs more than I make a year and does NOT pay 96K/yr. Just some friendly advice from someone who's been there. :)

So they are going to launch the game on the consoles and NO ONE is going to play if there is a sub?

I'm surprised you get Internet service that far out....
