Could one of the f2p champions explain to me why, if f2p is so vastly superior to subs, all those games that switched to f2p (like TOR, or LotRO) still kept a subscription model with their game? One would think that the sub portion would've been eliminated entirely if the sub was such a detriment to the game.

This will be the first MMO where I'll pay for a 6 month block out of the gate. I couldn't be happier with the decision, and honestly, I think they're willing to "lose customers" because they know that the ones they get will be sticking around for the long haul. If it was "free" and they got thousands more people... but they didn't pay anything, would they care?

This ones a long ride, buckle up kiddo's.

I am actually more of a B2P fan, but when people say F2P they generally mean Freemium. As in you CAN sub if you like the game enough, but you do not have to. as people said though, it does seem to always end up being P2W sadly.

I was rallying for b2p but im at least happy this isn't f2p at the very least. Let's hope Destiny is sub based too or else that'll cause more troubles for the floaters in this game than it being sub based.

F2P is not really that superior, nor is P2P. They are both drastic in their own way. F2P is desperate move by a dying MMO, just to keep player on the server and not to die out. The developers are not motivated, and the free players are usualy cut off much of the content. P2P on the other hand is just a greedy way to make money every month with a MMO that cannot in any way be worth all that money. Appereantly people have no problem in investing non-stop money at a game that they cannot even play after they stopped subscribing. The fairest is the B2P + DLC. You get what you paid for en if you want more you spend more. More or less everyone is happy.

Well as someone who will be playing ESO and is interested in Destiny, I for one hope Destiny is not a sub game, so can more easily play both. I'm fine with paying a sub fee for a premium MMO but paying for two might be a bit much.

Yeah, the standard subscription cost for MMOs. Some go cheaper: FF14 has an option that's only $13 from month to month, but you get a minimal number of character slots. Asheron's Call is something $12-$13 a month (but it's 14 years old). Even the freemium games tend towards the $15 number for their subscription option.

It's not much but why should you pay 15$ a month in the first place? It's like always online drm with Simcity. Why should you be always online, if you are playing a offline game. The scary part is that companies look how other models work for other companies and sooner or later you are going to see If you want to play Need for speed offline pay 5$ a month. This model should't exist in the first place.

I was originally thinking making an online Elderscrolls was a silly idea....I've never gotten into online games and I never needed that style of game play.

But I really became excited to see things with ESO as it developed, watching videos and reading up on it....and I started to think, "yeah....you know....this may really be awesome!!!"

But $60 up front plus $15 per month (x 12 months) = $240 for a years' gameplay?????

Really?

This online experience is really going to be worth $240 for a years' worth of game play?

Man...I'm disappointed.....

Sure, some will play....that's clear.

But it will never push the envelope of online games and it will fail....as others with the same model will fail.

$5 per month I can see, to contribute to the growing/evolving online presence....(buying the game twice basically)....but beyond that!?

Looks like it's time to add more mods to Skyrim, go back and re-mod Morrowind/Oblivion and squeek a couple more years out of some the most fantastic games ever made.....

I LOVE Bethesda's games -- Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas....

...and it looks like I'll just re-re-re-mod them and make them last forever.

All for free....not $240.

Count me out.

:(

All free to play are pay to win, this does not mean they are all bad games they can be very enjoyable to play you just have to be ready to pay for it and I don't really mind that. So in a game like Star Trek Online the thing you need to advance your fleet the most is Dilithium and in absolutely insane quantities. And you can grind dilithium and never spend a dime playing STO but if you want to you can pull out your credit card buy ZEN with it then in game convert the ZEN to Dilthium at about 1 ZEN to 110 Dilithium and there you have the best way to acquire large quantities of dilithium.

Sorry Bethesda. I absolutely love Elder Scrolls, but not enough to pay $15 dollars a month, on top of the initial $60.

Too many things about this game are controversial in my mind to justify the price (the cartoony graphics, the tacked on first-person mode). Not to mention, being a college student, I'm on an extremely tight budget. Just buying one of the new consoles is going to kill me financially.

You realize that by saying this you are quite literally saying you expect this game to fail. If you are going to project this kind of negativity into the community, at least back it up with some constructive criticism (about the actual game, not the payment model)

I don't play MMOs. Never got into them, not a social type gamer and I am not a PvPer. The MMOs I did try irritated me with all the spamming and stupid xxxL3TH4L0N3xxx names. All that being said, ESO intrigues me 1)because it is a Elder Scrolls game, and 2) I like the AvAvA idea for PvP (may even give it a shot). If I pay $60 for the game with 1 mth free, and pay $15/mth, I consider it a bit expensive, but will know within the 1st month whether I like it enough to subscribe. It would be the same if I bought WoW, or another game. If I don't like it, I lost $60. That wouldn't be the 1st game that sounded awesome, everyone loved, except me. But if the reduce the sub fee for 3mth, 6mth, or 12mth, I can see staying even if it isn't the most awesome evahhhhhh!

ZO has to get their money back, and pay for their team to create, support and update this game, so whether it is a monthly sub, or an in game store, you will be putting money into this game. Also, with it being sub, I believe (hope/pray) that I won't be seeing spam in my chat window, and idiotic names running around. It will be more mature than GW and other f2p/b2p games were.

ok u want constructive criticism? you got it. Well first of all from the start they are trying to bring elder scrolls and MMO players together into one game, but the players who've only played elder scrolls single -player games aren't use to paying subscriptions, so that crowd of elder scrolls fans will be hard to make happy

As an Elder Scroll single player fan, if it gives me the freedom to roam in areas, not forced to quest and killkillkill, allows me to rp and not forced to PvP, I'll be happy.

If the MMO version has the same quality in content and story as the TES games i dont think pleasing the single player game players will be a problem. But either of us speak for anyone individual reaction we know how we feel they know how they feel, come launch we should have decent reviews and knowledge of where the game is headed a year or YEARS down the road

I prefer to pay a sub for full access to the game then pay $60-$200 per character just to make the game bearable by unlocking eveything. When I play an alt I like to have all bag slots available instead of paying $50 to unlock them all. I like being able to enjoy my character instead of spending the majority of my time dropping or destroying and running back to town every 20 mobs. When I hit level 20 an a mount is available, I know I will have enough gold to buy a mount because someone didn't nerf the coin drops in the game before 20 to increase sales of their overly ridiculously priced mounts in the store. In a subscription game I know when I loot something it won't come with a popup asking me to swipe my credit card for a key to unlock it.

F2P means the game is designed for the store and not for the players. I prefer immersion in my games instead of feeling like I'm playing Bank of America Online.
