The Anti-PC Conspiracy

What? So I have to spend money on a game AND do Bethesda's job as well ? Looking for work-arounds and fixes? I should not have to fix this in the first place. It seems you have so become used to games being released in a rush, that you forgot to realize a game should be finished as it comes out. Dude, you should not have to fix it from day 1.

Did you just call using google and changing few parameters in INI file (from 1 to 0) a job?
Anyway, yes I'm used to it as pretty much everyone else. Every game should be released bug free yet that almost never happens. Since you are obviously new to gaming so I suggest you better get used to it too.

Sounds like you either have bad sight/can't aim or have some kind of mouse hardware issue. Either way I got used to the gui fine, I actually spend less time equipping stuff now and more into gameplay.

A) I can see just fine
B) Mouse hardware has never been an issue in any other game I have ever played.
C) There are quite a few people experiencing all of the same issues I am (Every single person I know in real life who has the game, for instance).

hey dude thanks for the advices but have you even read my post? I complain about an user interface design - all tweaks, improvements and tuning have already been made. I work as a developer and creating GUIs is my work, so thank you for your kindness and leave my ass alone
btw if Bethesda needs help in managing ergonomics, they can call me

Drama queen..

I just wish the font used for the manual that came with my boxed game was as easy to read as the huge fonts on my computer's screen.

Dude, I breathe gaming. I wrote for several magazines, moderated game sites, and own the Xentax Game Research forum. Trust me, there isn't something I haven't seen. My standards as ultra-veteran are way out of your league. That's why I can say that Bethesda released a messy interface nobody would ever want. You are just too young to realize there was a time not long ago, when games were released as finished products.

[EDIT] Oh and just read your other "mature" remarks, calling someone else a "drama queen". Very thoughtful and really contributing.

Solution: Use xbox360 controller.

That would degrade the game to a console game.

The UI has grown on me immensely. It's minimalistic.....I like it. As for the favourites bar, I specifically keep my favourites in there,,,i.e 1 melee, 1 ranged weapon and a few choice spells. Its short. It's useful. It's updated regularly. Long favourites list= might as well use the main inventory.

I personally play on the xbox, but the majority of my friends have the game on PC, and few have raised such compaints.

-So bland, ugly depressing black n' gray n' white menus, it ruins the epic dimension, fonts does not reflect ancient epic stories, it just remind me clouds, rain, clouds, depress, a bullet in my head
-Useless (for pc) key shortcuts in menus, better should have worked on the mouse (mouse is great you know, more: every pc have one!)
-In 20 hours of game I spent more time dealing with the menus than playing (almost no game fun at all)
-Navigation is totally absurd: binds different depending on the context, some bind changes not reflected in GUI (E,R,F), in the TAB menu magic is on left & inventory is on right but panels are inverted
-Can't switch between inventory and spells directly so returning even briefly in the game while fighting means a round loss
-Absolutely no kind of global view
-Inconsistent ergonomics (sometimes click, sometimes list, sometimes graphical, sometimes browse with keys, on the left, on the right, schizophrenic navigation)
-Help written in 15 mins (i searched with no luck for magic stones, races, ...)
-Buggy mouse actions on menu items (clics must sometimes be done twice, often no highlighting menus, exits of the shop dialog)
-Menus overlaps each other
-Unending unintuitive lists with no icons, with arbitrary imposed alphabetical order (requires at least 10 seconds to find every item)
-Items lists beginning at the half of the screen requiring constant scrolling, and reading, and more scrolling, and scrolling again, and reading, and even more scrolling
-No item characteristics (1hand, 2hands, stolen or not,...)
- Sicknesses are just hidden to the player, so are the levelups
-The "favorite" bar is just a joke, unreadable, you even have to scroll your entire inventory hoping to find that item you don't want anymore in favs
-No bottom quickbar, no drag n'drop of items on it (could even be hidden to preserve immersion)
-With the 1-8 shorcuts (not even talking about missing 9 and 0), switching between shield(1)+fire(2) and shield(1)+heal(3) must be done with 3-3-1, what a shortcut, yay! and sometimes it even doesn't work
-Switching between spells is such a pain that I almost do not change of spell anymore
-No character sheet (you know, the one sheet that rpg players like when they're doing rpg stuff, and that should make the difference between mario kart and TES)
-Did any of the developers even navigated in the magic section? it drives me nuts, designed to despair
-Redundant spells & skills abilities... Yeaaaah! 5 archery upgrades with no changes but a damage bonus, are you jocking?

So, so, so disappointed uh

-I love the new GUI, so simple and elegant, the text for menus and reply choices is maybe a tad too modern, and I do miss the journal itself.
-Don't know what your complaint really is here.
-Maybe the menus could be a touch improved, lists can get a bit long but is fractioning lists more really better? 20 hours of how many playing? 40? your doing something wrong. And on consoles it not for them, triggers have lost the ability quickly move the amount marker by half etc.
-Your blaming consoles for the magic list being on the left side of the screen when you have to press left to bring it up?
-Good thing, not a console thing either, you change weapon or armor mid fight you should be left open briefly. Although its kinda odd if you have a weapon drawn and magic in the other hand your always "casting"
-Disieses aren't hidden, they're under magic > effects, 20 hours spent in menus and you'vee not noticed this?
-I sort of agree regarding the perks, increased damage should be linked to skill like it previously was for reaching certain levels, moves linked with training and ability to use certain materials in crafting the same rather then having to select a perk with a limited number on something you won't use that much and past a certain point ever again really. But you can not blame consoles for this again, it's a MMO phenominon from PC games that is seeping into single player games, because after all why should you be able to be more powerful then that other person playing you can never meet in game.
Can't really be bothered with the rest but regarding buggy dialouges, it's more to do with trying to maintain the active world around you as you speak, not because it's been nerfed for consoles, how exactly does that help console players? If your going to berate consoles then try make valid complaints. I'm not saying the game is bug free or as tidy as it could be but how would having to work to machines that are more powerful that not everyone has the exact same set up of help that? It wouldn't if anything boundries may have brought about some good changes.

Interface on the PC is messy, it's really bad. The perks menu is the cake, worse thing ever invented. The Sneak tree is the perfect example of the MESS that interface is on PC.

Start from the first perk on the tree. It branches on the left Muffled Movement, on the right Backstab. What happens when you press the WSAD keys you say?

Left goes to Muffled Movement (ok)
Right goes to the Pickpocket tree (what?)
Up goes to Deadly Aim. Wait, what?

From that last spot, down takes you to Backstab as needed.

It's even more fun when you are on Lightfoot perk. You see Silent Roll just in front and guess that "UP" would get you to it. No chance. Up flies straight above it without stopping and lands you on the next perk. Then you press down hopping you'd fallback on Silent Roll at least since pressing down SHOULD simply walk back up the perk tree. No luck! Pressing down switches you to the right part of the perk tree to the Assassin perk you didn't even see in the screen. At least from here, you just have to press left to reach the Silent Roll perk you wanted to read about.

Please Bethsda, scrap that abominations in a future patch and implement some (at least) 10 years old technology and give us a perk tree that looks like Diablo II had at the minimum.

Top one, yes, maybe .. it doesnt say that... but about the sicknesses? check magic --> active effects, was the same in oblivion and they even gave them big red letters so its easier to know which are diseases and regulair buffs/magic spells

Some of the complaints people have existed since morrowind, what did you expect? Also I play nothing but PC games and people are exaggerating IMO. Mass effect and Dragon age origins had way more annoying interfaces in their time and I'm really enjoying not having to deal with tabs and messy item interfaces.

The worst thing about it is having to favorite something to hotkey it. That reeks of refusing to code something to work better on pc, it's clearly the only real thing that handicaps the UI.

Sounds like you are a disappointed customer. Why not try to get your money back?
As for myself, I am enjoying this game immensely. It is a masterpiece. And as the modders tear into it over the next few years, the game is going to deliver me so much entertainment that these minor launch issues will be but a pale memory.

Amen. I played Daggerfall and Morrowind back in the day - and by that I mean in their day; I'm no spring chicken. And I remember well the anticipation and antagonism surrounding Oblivion as the first console-friendly TES title. Thanks to the mod community and the dev patches, starting hassles are a distant memory and I still enjoy it 5 years on. Skyrim will be the same. Plenty of us have been there done that.

The interface is fine! It takes an hour to get used to it, the same as any other new design choice. After that it's actually quite quick and efficient. That's just me, though. I'm finding it difficult to fault the game at the moment.

I remember hearing about the UI issues before I got it... And I still don't see them. True, it's easier navigation with WASD, but it is nowhere near horrendous. I know horrendous.

UI is pretty bad, not by the looks, but by the feeling of usability. You get used to it, but every now and than you wish you had a printable picture of the guy who skipped on User Friendly QA in Skyrim. Just so you could rip that picture apart or wipe your ass with it.

The people complaining about having to use keyboard shortcuts in menus, have you tried clicking your mouse at all on options or did you see a keyboard shortcut and not bother? Because I bothered o actually use my mouse and found that it works fine.

I think the UI is a lot better because nothing gets in my way. I don't have three clunky bars in the corner or a big clunky compass at the bottom of my screen (it's at the top instead.) It only shows things that are necessary at the time. Much better than the Oblivion and Morrowind UI in my opinion.

The fonts, what a petty complaint. That's all I'm going to say on that.

For those of you who played Oblivion on the PC, you will notice that many of the controls are very similar if not the same. There isn't much difference at all.

I think a lot of these complaints are unfair complaints coming from people who just want to look for problems in a game. The PC version is not just console ported over to PC at all. Effort has been taken to make sure that controls are familiar, which I've found they are.

Now, unless I have the only version of the game in the world that was intended or use with the PC and wasn't just the Console version ported over, I think you'll find a lot of your complaints are petty and need to be looked at a bit deeper than just a 2 minute play and them rant session.

Yeah, the term "ultra-veteran" is a label we use at our forum for regulars with lots of posts. In any event, I started gaming when I was 8, that's a little under 30 years ago.... :>

For the love of Akatosh...

You chauvenistic falmer! Get back to the depths of the dwemer cities and mine shafts where you belong...

Damn arrogant PC-gamers. Think they're everything...
I've got a gaming PC, X360 and PS3 and yet I still bought it for PS3. You know why? Because I'm not a pain in the ass about everything that I don't really like; I just play for the absolutely gorgeous graphics and completely immersive storyline!

Get over it, you big baby...
