Start > Run > Dxdiag should work.

Depending on your computer it's quite probable your sound is handled by your motherboard, at which point you'll either need your motherboard model or your computer model (prebuilt like hp/dell) to get drivers for it.

Well somehow I managed to accidently uninstall the drivers after spending awhile looking for updates, so now instead of being AMD and from 2010, the drivers are now from ATI and 2007.

EDIT: The reason I'm trying to update the drivers is because I can't record sound on fraps(it says I need to update the drivers), is it possible that my soundcard doesn't have an input and can't record audio at all?

The VH is the better panel due to the 2ms response time. It's been well regarded in the past for gaming purposes....still a solid choice.

They're just model designations, but response times seems to be main difference here. They have a VK lineup too, which includes a webcam I believe.

As always, thanks for the help!

Hey all, need some tech savvy folk to help me out here. I decided I wanted a good desktop to game on, as my laptop isn't the strongest XD
I was looking at this bundle on newegg. How does that bundle look? Would it be cheaper to buy all the parts separately? If its good, what would be the best graphics card I could run in it without an issue? Thanks!
EDIT: Would also have to put an OS in, probably Windows 7 pro 64 bit.
Edit2: this is the bundle: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.755238&cm_sp=DIY_PC_Combos-_-755238-_-Combo
edit3: I was also thinking use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131397&cm_sp=Cat_Video_Cards_%26%2338%3b_Video_Devices-_-Clearance-_-14-131-397 video card and add http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103055 CPU cooler.

and its not letting me log in :/

this kinda pisses me off since this is the exact thing that my linex did if i tried to do any thing and would overide me every time... it my computer damn it :rage:

1. Does it happen across browsers?

2. Is the site using https? What is the certificate?

Recently a large number of certificate authorities have been compromised so many certificates have been revoked from major browsers. It is possible the certificate being used by that site is a compromised certificate

It's also possible the site's been hacked or your dns record is poisoned and it is a phishing attack.

Better to build yourself with that budget.

There are several videos in the OP on how to build one.

CASE: BitFenix Shinobi Black Mid Tower Case
MOBO: Asus P8P67
CPU: Core i5 2500K
RAM: G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB
HDD: Samsung F3 1TB
PSU: Antec TruePower New 650W Modular PSU
GPU: Sapphire HD 6950 2GB GDDR5
DVD: ASUS DRW-24B3ST
OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Should be under £1000

It's £955.60

Are these all the parts I need ?

Thanks for all the help and for the links in the op.

If you have the monitor and all other external peripherals (mouse, keyboard, speakers/headphones, etc)...then that's about all you need.

edit3: I was also thinking use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131397&cm_sp=Cat_Video_Cards_%26%2338%3b_Video_Devices-_-Clearance-_-14-131-397 video card and add http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103055 CPU cooler.

CPU Cooler is overpriced for what it is and what it can do. Can get similar temperatures with a cooler that almost costs half as much from CoolerMaster. Like one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006648+100008000&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&IsNodeId=1&Subcategory=-1&description=hyper+212%2B&hisInDesc=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&AdvancedSearch=1&srchInDesc=

The 2500K bundle is ok, but just not a fan of coolermaster power supplies...they are overpriced for what they really are. Their cases are excellent though. Consider going with a different set of components to save more money and shift those funds towards a better video card. The Asus Sabertooth mobo isn't necessary for most users.

CASE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196
CPU+MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.763035
RAM+PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.761012
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185...ugh HDD prices are terrible these days
DVD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

With the savings, get a better card. Radoen 6870 or GTX 560 or higher.

So I just ordered a new rig. I'm wondering if this can max out Skyrim?

CPU: i5 2500k 3.3ghz (3.7 turbo)
Mobo: ASRock Extreme4 Gen3 Z68
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8gb (2x4gb) 1600
GPU: MSI Twin Frozr III PE/OC GTX 570 1280mb GDDR5
PSU: Corsair Professional Series HX650w

and it's all going in a Corsair 500R case.

I'm hoping this maxes out Skyrim, I'm assuming it will due to the price I paid for all these components. (There's obviously more components but these are the only ones affecting performance)

Thankyou so much... you've been really helpful =)

Oh, and ONE more question to ask...
would http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_547&products_id=15716 be compatible with all those parts? Could I use this case instead of the Bitfenix Shinobi one? I plan to purchase the ASrock motherboard too. Thanks. =)

1) no, one my 1st computer it works fine with fire fox on the 2nd it gives that error.

2) well it doesnt have the /s/ at the end of the http and i have no idea what a certificate is.

works fine on my other computer, but that one is having a certain battery issue so its not convienant to use.

there is a security setting in your browser to notify you when sending your information over an insecure connection (which would be plain http, completely insecure).

Complain to the site administrator that secure connections are absolutely necessary for logging in and should be implemented.

More than likely it is due to security.warn_submit_insecure in about:config for firefox being set to true (WHICH IT SHOULD BE)

Those components are just replacements for the parts you listed. But add the video card and the Windows OS...yea, that's about everything that's needed for a basic gaming machine. The CPU cooler is only really necessary if you plan to OC it...the 2500K is an OCing champ. No mention of you needing a monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc...so I didn't include them.

My girlfriend, for reasons best known to herself, got herself a Macbook. We're now trying to transfer all the files from her old laptop to this shiny new piece of plastic. My first choice would have been to send them over the wireless network, but for some reason the Macbook won't show up on the laptop, nor will the laptop show up on the Macbook. We've disabled firewalls, set workgroups to be the same, but for some reason the Macbook refuses to integrate in with everything else on the network. This leaves us having to burn everything to CDs, which is just a pain. There's gotta be an easier way, right?

Without bonjour installed on the windows laptop, Mac OS X won't be able to find it. Likewise, without samba installed on Mac OS X, Windows won't be able to recognize it.

On the Mac, go System Preferences->Sharing->file sharing->options->Share files and folders using SMB.

Now your Mac go Apple-Key+K in finder (couldn't you just give us the damned directory bar?)

type in smb://nameofyourwindowscomputer (if bonjour is not installed on Windows you'll have to use the LAN IP address of the windows computer)

You must now enter in the password and username for the windows computer

Connect to the share you want to connect to, and you can start transferring files

DO NOTE: Over Wireless-g wireless Internet, your maximum transfer rate is 6 mb/s, with a realistic maximum transfer rate of 3 mb/s. If you don't have wireles-n, you need to reconsider this as an option.

Well, you should be able to find the drivers on your sound card/motherboard/computers website (if it's prebuilt like Dell/HP/Ect.). Like I said, the motherboard probably controls your sound, especially if you don't know what kind of sound card you have (info I'd assume you'd know if you built it and put a sound card in). So, either you know your computers model, or if it's a built computer and you don't know your motherboard you can download http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html to tell you what your motherboard model is.

As for the second question, I can't say for sure I've never used FRAPS, but I'd update the drivers first.

Well here's the deal, the computer is a Dell Dimension 9100, the mobo, power supply, and fans are all original, everything else is custom, not sure what exact sound card it is, dxdiag says it's ATI, and I looked at the sound drivers for the dell Dimension 9100 so I'm fairly sure the mobo doesn't control it. Are there even sound card drivers on AMD though?

Thanks.

AMD/ATI graphics cards with HDMI Audio pass-through (AMD Radeon HD series) may be detected as a sound device.

Well I am using HDMI..

Are your speakers using HDMI audio though? If they're plugged into the PC and not the monitor, then the HDMI audio device isn't being used.

HDMI audio drivers are included in your graphics card's driver package, so reinstall those if you're using that device. If not, then find out what audio chipset is on your motherboard and find the drivers for that.

So several weeks ago I noticed that my games graphics in all my games were........... off to say the least

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n619/TheSajuukKhar/ep2_outland_020000.jpg
It is kind hard to see here but if you look at the railing on the right you will see that the middle bar that runs horizontally between the railing is missing

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n619/TheSajuukKhar/ep2_outland_020001.jpg
Walking just a few steps forward however causes it to "pop in", also note that there is no visible blood around Alyx's body in this picture

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n619/TheSajuukKhar/ep2_outland_020002.jpg
However after walking just a few steps more the blood pops in

This kind of pop-ing is happening in all my games and I can't seem to figure out what is causing it.

I have
-Reinstalled by OS, I was planning to go from 32bit to 64bit anyways so I figured why not
-Updated to the newest video card drivers
-Checked both my ram sticks, first by removing ram stick 2 and seeing if the problem still persisted, then removing ram stick 1 and putting 2 in its place
-Put in a different video card I had sitting around, unless by some ungodly chance both video cards had the same problem

done some other stuff but cant remember everything
