So I need to kill my computer and see what's inside it? :cryvaultboy:

Well I guess you could also figure out your HDD's make and model and google it. Go to Start->Computer->Right Click the C drive->Properties->Hardware tab. The name ought to be there. Make sure the type is "Disk Drive" and not "CD/DVD drive".

"WDC WD10 02..bla..-ooY..bla SCSI Disk device"

No mentioning of a IDE or SATA. :/

Hi, I'm kinda new to the whole "custom building" thing, I THINK this is the right place to request a custom build, sorry if it isn't...
Anyway, would it be possible for someone to reccommend a PC/custom built pc to be able to play Skyrim on high - ultra settings? I'm not sure which websites to go to to purchase the parts either.
I was hoping to spend at the very maximum $1000, but I'm not too sure now as Skyrim's graphically intensive game so far...
So would $1000 be too low for a budget? I don't need a monitor/keyboard/mouse/operating system/speakers or anything like that as I already have all the accessories.
I live in Australia, and I have a friend who can put together the parts but I know it would definetly help if it already came assembled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

Gaahhh, this BSOD's won't end! I've installed my new GPU, but this error keeps coming up:
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/316383_510604628672_160100387_30202219_1190480791_n.jpg
Anyone? Help? This is driving me insane, to no end!
This one just came now:
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/300643_510605122682_160100387_30202222_1269654355_n.jpg

I get these like ever two days in work, happens when I'm leaving, I have the laptop shut down and while its doing that I pull the charger out but it works fine with a restart.
I doubt this is what your doing?

there were a few more responses in your thread in the skyrim forums but here's a start:

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_346_1184&products_id=16531 cpu $229

you can tweak with other options but this system would max skyrim. if you were going to tweak anything go with the gpu to be more future proof. also, you'd need an OS...do you have one already?

Yea you can request a custom build here. :)
You just need to tell us your budget, if you need extra things such as a monitor, os, etc and if you can put the computer together yourself.

Yes, you'd need to get a wireless network card.

While it doesn't matter for skyrim, if you plan on doing online gaming, you really do owe it to yourself to run a wired connection. Wired is far superior to wireless both in terms of speed and reliability. You also really should do it if you plan on doing things like a NAS or other networked backup solutions (probably getting ahead of myself with this last piece)

Also, I'm pretty certain Z68 boards don't support triple-channel, so you'd be better off getting a 2x4GB memory kit rather than the 3x2GB kit linked.

So, fairly odd request; does anybody know of a USB 2.0 to 2.5mm + USB adapter? Meaning one side, I can plug my USB headset into, and the other side has a 2.5mm jack, so i can plug it into my Xbox 360 controller, and a USB, so i can power it? lol... Or any other ways to get a USB headset (wired) to work with an Xbox 360. Thanks.

Start > Run > Dxdiag should work.

Depending on your computer it's quite probable your sound is handled by your motherboard, at which point you'll either need your motherboard model or your computer model (prebuilt like hp/dell) to get drivers for it.

The Coolermaster case is alright, but I'd avoid the PSU that it comes with. Their eXtremePower line is rather low quality in terms of components. Get the case w/o the PSU if you like it and get this PSU instead:http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=16290

Alternative case: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_1171&products_id=17935

Better HDD: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12711

Better Motherboard (Full ATX): http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=18137

That RAM will work....either board. Highly suggest the AsRock though.

And do you really need a Blu-Ray drive? Could save some money there and go with this http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=658_667&products_id=17957

Shift it towards a better video card like the http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1164&products_id=15875

May want to give uMart a look to do price-checks:

There is a bit of a price, size, appearance, and response time difference, but other than that, they seem very similar (VW246H is a daily deal at the moment). Which would be better for gaming?

P.S. What in the heck does VH and VW stand for, anyhow? I never understood the Asus naming convention.

The VH is the better panel due to the 2ms response time. It's been well regarded in the past for gaming purposes....still a solid choice.

They're just model designations, but response times seems to be main difference here. They have a VK lineup too, which includes a webcam I believe.

Aged CPU now. Wouldn't go farther than a Radeon 6770 or GTX 550 Ti with that to be honest and those would already be held back by that CPU. If you want max, should upgrade the CPU too so that it's reasonable to get a more powerful card.

Thankyou so much... you've been really helpful =)

Better to build yourself with that budget.

There are several videos in the OP on how to build one.

CASE: BitFenix Shinobi Black Mid Tower Case
MOBO: Asus P8P67
CPU: Core i5 2500K
RAM: G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB
HDD: Samsung F3 1TB
PSU: Antec TruePower New 650W Modular PSU
GPU: Sapphire HD 6950 2GB GDDR5
DVD: ASUS DRW-24B3ST
OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Should be under £1000

It's £955.60

Are these all the parts I need ?

Thanks for all the help and for the links in the op.
