The Crysis 2 platform war...

Post » Sun Aug 22, 2010 5:50 pm

For the most part.

This post has been very constructive, and has raised some very valid points, on all sides, i would not wish to make my preference seem better than any other, its what i like to play all my games on, and i am comfy with, it would be sad to see it get derailed at this point.

Hope we can continue it in a reasonable fashion folks, its easy to flam, but harder to accept that other peoples opinions dont weaken or change your own.

i have read some interesting ideas, and facts here, and i can take them on board, and still have my own opinion, can you all do the same without taking offence, there are exeptions, thats a forum fact, but on the whole a dam good post, keep it coming, with links, lol.

Guss, :-)

For the sake of this thread, we must continue. And keep its meaning alive. :)

PS3 Does have better graphics then the 360 does. (Slightly)

360 Handles Anti-Aliasing better though. ( A bit more slightly )

PC Handles both a lot better.

@ lonwol

I refer you to this quote that ive posted earlier in this thread:

.............................
Gamasutra:What would you cite as the major performance differences between PS3 and 360? I’ve heard a lot of opinions.

Cevat Yerli: I mean essentially the game we run is about the same. Probably one’s stronger on the GPU side, one’s stronger on the CPU side, so depending on what you’re doing where, the PS3 does perform here sometimes better, the 360 performs other things better, but overall by the time the game ships it’ll be absolutely the same.
..................................................

In the last scentence its clearly said that the PS3 and the XBOX 360 version will not differ at all.
So the console versions will be "absolutely the same".

Its always a question about what your personal needs are.
If you want the game to look as good as possible, and want the best accuracy for the controls, you need a moderate high end Pc.But if you just want to play and dont care much about grfx, then you "just" buy the console version.I personally own a 360 myself.. but i dont go online with it. Because i can play online for free on my pc.
My friends are also mainly Pc gamers. But if someone buys C2 on Pc and doesnt know anyone to play with.. i bet you will find many cool People on this Forum who are willing to play with you online. Making new friends and stuff.

One question (don't know if it has been asked b4):
Will there ever be a chance of bridge gaming between the three consoles? (I know its probably next to impossible)

@ safedude
There were a few games that allowed crossplatform battles: the most famous one is Shadowrun.
But thats a **** game and no one plays it anymore i guess.

Crossplatforming between Ps3 and Xboxgamers will never happen because of the rivalty of MS and Sony.

For Xbox gamers and PC Gamers there was a project from Microsoft for crossplatforming. But it was cancelled very early as professional Xbox gamers lost every time to mediocre Pc gamers.

http://gizmodo.com/5593116/were-pc-gamers-too-good-for-microsofts-cross+platform-gaming-project

For Ps3 and PC:
I doubt Sony is interested in crossplatforming because theyre not into the Pc market as microsoft.
And i think the result would be the same as above.

But to make myself clear:
These are just facts and no offense to console gamers.

For short, :), Cross-platforming would be dangerous. And some what un-fair for console gamers.

Cross platform gaming would be good for games such as racing games ect. but for first person shooters, RTS's (e.g. the 'PC platform titles' even if first person shooters have generally turned into mediocre clones of each other lately) are not fair on console players. The genres were originally designed for PC, so PC gamers just have that advantage of using the 'pure' control setup, whereas console gamers are disadvantaged by the shoehorned controller.

However, add in mouse and keyboard support for the consoles and then we're rolling.

That's the only two things, an F.p.s. console gamer could use right now :)

The best thing you could have is an option for controller use only, or keyboard and mouse use only, That way that the disadvantage is not as severe.

I have heard the story about pro Xbox gamers losing to PCs b4 but it would be fun if there was maybe even one server dedicated to cross-gaming...
BTW, will there be dedicated PC servers?

Yes, but at this point, so close to the release. It's still being kept from most of us.
Any-how, any clue about an Pc Mp Test or Demo ? Still no word about this at all. :)

Im guessing January we will hear about it and it'll start late January, but Crytek/EA likes to be ultra-secretive about everything that really should be SO simple, and I really do think it is starting to hurt the hype of this game and will hurt its release sales.

I don't remember other major EA titles being as secretive as Crysis 2... its really a pain in the butt and turns people off from a game when they can't get answers to simple questions like dedicated servers or mod support, and this is why consoles HURT the PC market.. Crysis back in 2007 had no issues publicly announcing mod support and giving out early versions of the SDK to several dedicated mod teams that make quality titles like MWLL. Crysis did release too much information, but now it is way too little with Crysis 2 and its hurting the release and hype of this game. Crysis Warhead/Wars had the pre-release information just right, although it had no advertising that it should have had.

Guess your right, I can't argue with that.

But this info, is shockingly true, Crysis 1 back at 07 didn't or was never this secretive. The intentions for Crysis 2 are obviously suspicious, and so many gamers and/or fans are getting disappointed as early as now.

I blame the publisher. :(

Does anyone think that the relation between Crytek and EA might be somewhat similiar to the relation between Andy Dufresne and the Warden in The Shawshank Redemption? I was just thinking and it came to mind...Lol.
