[WIPz] The Dragonborn Rebellion

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 8:36 am

More like screams BGS's marketing campaign.
I think the Dovahkiin's emblem should have something to do with dragons or killing dragons.
Well, yes, that was the point. Something generic, something that was pre-determined.

Dragons would be cool, but as I said, the Empire already uses a dragon as their logo, and I wanted unique, but something not polarizing. An iron helmet ties in nicely with the marketing campaign that Bethesda forced down our throats (and all you have to do is look at it to get the point of the message), and it's appropriately Nordic.

I agree, seeing as every bandit and their uncle wear an iron helm xD
I personally think would look bad ass...minus the whitering in the back xD

I think it should be something symbolizing The dragonborns legacy or triumph over Alduin, heck here is a crazy idea, since he is a dragonborn and conquering like him, why not make the logo like the symbols of Talos we see about?

True enough. If I get bored during class tomorrow I'll throw together some other ideas, if you'd like.

What about a dismembered dragon? http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&biw=1068&bih=1087&tbm=isch&tbnid=RMmn4PptIeU5oM:&imgrefurl=http://www.history.org/history/teaching/enewsletter/volume5/november06/primsource.cfm&docid=mvppq_CyGh0Y_M&imgurl=http://www.history.org/history/teaching/enewsletter/volume5/images/snake_large.jpg&w=700&h=492&ei=V05MT6CjH8Xk0QH0oLjpAg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=374&sig=105658334920201231385&page=1&tbnh=145&tbnw=206&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0&tx=122&ty=97

I'd suggest a helm that's both more recognizable and more awesome- such as the Ancient Nord Helmet.

Why not just use the Akaviri symbol for the Dragonborn?

Also, It would be nice if you could choose from a set of banners. Kind of like you could in Overlord (minus the over-complicated interface, of course).

Actually, much, MUCH better idea has been had.

Something VERY distinctive, something VERY related to dragons, and something VERY Nordic.

Points if you can figure it out before I post it.

Is it related to Fafnir?

Fus'Ro'Dah in dragon script?

I really do think that you should make some optional files after the mod is finished. Optional files that let you change the Dragonborn logo as in reality, all you should need to do is replace textures, unless of course the mod references the actual design of the Dragonborn.

"Maw unleashing razor snow, Of dragons from the blue brought down, Births the walking winter's woe, The High King in his Jagged Crown." -- Ancient Nord Verse

Ancient symbol of Nordic kings, made from Dragon Bones, and important enough that the first quest of both main Civil War missions is to retrieve it.

The banner is a little too dark, IMO- I will fix that when I update the shield and cuirass. In the meantime, it works.

ah forgot about the jagged crown...so i guess that'll be the player's "crown" then?
Though the flag/banner still seems....idk, bland? Maybe try spicing it up, try throwing some dragon runes on there or something, idk xD

I have to agree that looks much better than the iron helmet (seriously, it's only iconic from the audience's perspective, which really makes the banner more of a 4th wall breaker than anything. It'd be like having a symbol of a guard getting shot in the knee. From an in-universe perspective its not very iconic and just looks rather silly. And personally I've never liked the idea that the crappiest heavy armor in the game is somehow the iconic armor for the most powerful [wo]man in skyrim. I mean... really?!) whereas the Jagged Crown does have a lot more in-universe significance. but I also have to agree with Drewan that by itself the banner is still very much bland. But you're on the right track now, at least.

One thing I might suggest however is that you include an unused "blank template" with the texture files (and make these loose by the way, even if you put everything else into a BSA) so that players can create their OWN symbols for banner/shield coats of arms if they want. (Sort of like what TalkieToaster did with his Robco Certified mod)

Love the banner as it stands.

One thing just occurred to me--will you modify the civil war line to make it similar to the DR? Some of the functionality (capturing towns, etc.) is still desirable even for those PCs that don't want to rule.

Can't wait for this mod to be reality. And I really like what you did with the new banner.

Yo, a question:

Will all of the holds be conquered similarly or are there plans to play politics in order to coerce certain holds to side with you? I mostly ask because I'm curious about Whiterun, and if the Dragon-Rising-Throat-of-the-World-Thu'um-Teaching-Kyne aspects of the hold might cause Balgruuf to throw his support behind you over the other holds, assuming he's still in power when your campaign begins.

You talked about having post-conquest quests for the five major holds, and I definitely think there could be ways to incorporate those ideas into political maneuvers that aid you in taking the hold. Allying yourself with the Forsworn could add them as troops when you sack Markarth and Karthwestern. In the end, you could choose to betray Madanach and put someone else in charge instead (possibly igniting a greater war with the Forsworn, etc, though that presents more loose ends than it would ever clean up).

This may seem farfetched, but see if you could hit up that guy who does the Skyrim and Oblivion Gamer Poops to help you with the NPC dialogue...mans1ay3r is his name? He does an amazing job making random dialogue seem legitimate. Hell, he even managed to splice two words together to make Balgruuf say "france" in his recent Skyrim Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPllpzxmM5k&list=PL983609694D90EDCB&index=17&feature=plpp_video

A post was made in Skyrim talking about how unsavory both of the civil war sides are, so this was posted as a response. I suppose some of the redditors are getting their read on.

Is it going to be possible to pose as an avatar of Talos as and force Ulfric to kneel to you, or lose men as dissenters? As Dragonborn you should be able to do it, perhaps with high enough speech.

Posing as Talos Reborn would be cool, and kinda plausible as well.
