The Dragons are SERIOUSLY underpowered.

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 11:31 am

So yeah. I'm going through the world fighting dragons and they are remarkably easy. These are supposed to be the top dog enemies of Skyrim and I'm beating them left and right WITH MELEE. I crank the difficulty up each time just to get a bit more of a challenge. What really got me is when I came across a Giant and a Dragon fighting and the Giant kicked its ass in 4 hits. I didn't even get over there in time to hit the Dragon any. I definitely think, in the first patch, that they need to buff up the Dragons quite a bit.

I've only killed two dragons so far in-game. Despite it takes longer to slay them even individually compared to that of roaming enemy animals, the Dragons are also in my opinion easier.

For instance, not far off the Mage's College in the snowlands, I bumped into a Snow Tiger/Leopard or something. It freakin' owned me in less then 10 seconds, and I don't think I even dropped it's health below 25% total.

A single hit by the Snow Leopard seemed the equivalent of two consecutive Dragon Fire breaths.

So yeah, I have found it rather strange. I guess just to make the Dragon battles more epic, they gave them immense resists/health, and compensated by nerfing there damage significantly. It's the only way to make it a legitimately feasible drawn-own battle by nature.

This is definitely true. I can bring down a dragon (eventually), but I have yet to kill a giant or mammoth (15 hours in).

Yeah, the dragons are too easy...

I hoped that they would be hard to fight, but I find them to be way too easy relative to things like giants and saber-tooth tigers.

Wth? Whenever a dragon gets a straight fire breath at me, it's over. But I can sure take care of a snow leopard etc. o_O I'm constantly stealthing or running towards other NPCs to get help against a dragon, and I fire arrows whenever there's a chance to hit. I very much respect them as opponents.

Then again, mammoths and giants aren't easy, either. Can't beat either in a fair fight.

Guys, THERE IS A REASON GIANTS ARE HARDER TO KILL THAN DRAGONS.

EVERYONE, from the most veteran TES player to Joey the ten-year-old, has to fight dragons; they're a critical part of the main story. If dragons were too hard, weaker players would get frustrated and wouldn't be able to deal with it. Thus, dragons need to be weak enough that they are reasonably beatable for anyone.

Giants, on the other hand, do not need to be killed as part of the main story (at least not much, haven't finished it yet). Thus, they can be a much harder enemy, because you have to actively seek them out and kill them. This is intended, and I'm fine with the logic behind it.

Search for Blood and white Dragons. They will mess you up. Probably. I almost killed a Blood Dragon, but I was in a REALLY bad spot when it attacked...

I killed a giant with some Apprentice level magic and a few smacks from my mace (although I was getting help from townspeople...)

However, I find Blood Dragons to be pretty tough. I am level 20 and it takes me a long time still to take out a Blood Dragon....

I agree. Dragons should be a lot more powerful. After how much they were hyped I'm nothing but disappointed.

That would require common sense. A rare commodity in the gaming world, lol!

I've fought blood dragons, and I kill them fairly easily. They just don't do enough damage to pose a serious threat. It might have something to do with my atronach stone negating dragon breath though...

Even still, a dragon's melee is way to weak. I can take about 5-7 dragon bites but only 2 giant hits, 3-4 sabertooth bites, and 3-4 cave bear hits. I just want dragons to be comparable to the other creatures mentioned.

This!
Also, if you needed to level up to level 40 before being able to take on a Dragon, it would take ages before you could use more Dragonshouts. My guess is that they are intentionally scaled to character ability for this reason.

Logically it would make sense for a giant to be able to beat a dragon. If you the player, are able to take down a dragon, it's pretty damn reasonable for a 15' tall guy with a huge club to be able to do the same thing.

The strength of Dragons is ultimately in their shouts. When they land, they put themselves in danger to anything which is able to outmanoeuvre them and/or simply stand and bang.

Dear god people do you not read what the ones that know say? Dragons get stronger as you get level up. GIANTS on the other hand are strong as [censored] from the start since they don't level up when you do. Wait until you fight a blood dragon and get your [censored] pushed in and then say something. /anger released

Cant remember what level i was but i was below 20, i had a random encounter with two blood dragons....And my god! It still is the hardest battle ive had so far.

I didnt die, but i used a ton of potions, fortify/restore etc. (which i dont normally do)
Shouted numerous times at them both (2 word frost breath)
Had to keep using the restoration spell too.

Battle lasted a good 20 mins and im Playin a warrior on adept.

EDIT: forgot to add...a cave bear also joined the fight, he died first ;)
