The Greatest PC Game of all Time

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:03 pm

I'm sorry if there's another thread on this, I looked.

Anyway, this website is having a "Greatest PC Game of All Time" competition. Basically, you go through and vote for the game you like best. Some of the choices get very hard. Totals are down at the bottom, but it shows you your top five after you finish.

http://www.dorkly.com/toplist/32341/the-greatest-pc-game-of-all-time

My top 5 turned out to be:
1. Fallout
2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
3. Warcraft III
4. Deus Ex
5. BioShock

WARNING: Reading total results list may result in rage.

Excellent list you have there.

Mine would be very similar, though without Bioshock and WC3 (haven't played it, only WC 1 and 2), and I would certainly add an Elder Scrolls game.

Warcraft III was my first PC game, ever, so it was bound to end up on the list. Not sure how Bioshock beat out some other games I had voted for.

Did you actually go through the voting process or did you just list your top 5 personal games? This isn't just another one of those topics.

I couldn't make it through that quiz. Too many of the games they were asking me to choose between, I hadn't played. By about half-way through, I was only being offered games I had never played.

Okay, I was finally able to get through it, but I ended up having to vote for some games I had never played. My end result was...

1. Baldur's Gate II
2. Baldur's Gate I
3. Mass Effect
4. Deus Ex
5. Dragon Age Origins

I would have ranked Fallout 1 above any of those, so I don't know why it didn't even end up in my results at all. Maybe I misclicked at some point (I was rushing through the second half)

Not exactly the games I would have picked if I listed them myself, but:

1. Morrowind
2. Full Throttle
3. Starcraft
4. Deus Ex
5. Thief

It was really stupid how many good games they lacked. They only had one C&C game, two Total War games, Dark Forces but no Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, only one Unreal game, only one Hitman game, no sports games. It was so unhelpfully broken.

Anyway, the list I came up with was:
5. KotOR
4. Morrowind
3. Counter-Strike
2. Thief: The Metal Age
1. Thief: The Dark Project

Ended up with BioShock, it was tough though, had to knock out some great games. Think some of my other top ones were Fallout 3, Minecraft, Roller Coaster Tycoon and L4D2.

What I got:
5. Spore
4. Portal
3. Age of Empires 2
2. Dragon Age: Origins
1. Age of Mythology

The top three is not unexpected, the most difficult choice was between Age of Kings and Fallout. I'm mildly surprised by fourth and fifth.

1. Thief 2
2. Deus Ex
3. Myst
4. Riven
5. Portal

That seems like a pretty accurate summing up of my tastes.

The poll is faulty. They didn't include Betrayal at Krondor, Gothic 1 and Gothic 2.

The original Medal of Honor wasn't for PC.

Also, where the heck is Operation Flashpoint?

1. Morrowind
2. Age of Empires
3. Minecraft
4. Oblivion
5. Dragon Age Origins (I contest this; I enjoyed Age of Empires 2, Empire Earth, and to a lesser extent Mass Effect 2 more than DA:O)

1. Deus Ex
2. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
3. Fallout
4. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
5. Age of Empires

This is perfect, but I'd replace AoE with AoE2. I must have messed up.

Baldur's Gate 2
Dragon Age: Origins
Baldur's Gate
BioShock
The Witcher 2

One that it never mentioned Planescape: Torment, but that would beat all of these.

Sanitarium would have made it too.

Yeah, I had to do that too, even tho I kept pressing the "skip" button whenever possible, if offered two games I'd never played. I haven't played too many shooters/fps games, so felt like more than half their list I'd never played.

Anyway, my results came out:

1-Dungeon Keeper
2-Diablo2
3-Baldur's Gate1
4-Caesar4
5-DOOM

Accurate in terms of my overall taste, I suppose, if not order...and of course there's games I'd rate higher than, say, the original DOOM or Casear4. Heh.
