Personal opinion: a step backwards design-wise. The Ogrim was always a bit goofy, but the way they made his face...WAY too ridiculous for my taste, the pursed lips and constant scowl makes me think of a bad guy from Power Rangers. The rest of the body is fine but that face is so goofy I can't help but laugh at it. I'd much prefer if it were scarier or more tragic and didn't look like it spent hours in the mirror each morning perfecting the perfect lip pucker.

I kinda always saw the Ogrim as a tragic figure. The way he was portrayed in Morrowind kinda reminded me of the cave troll from LOTRO. It doesn't know why it's smashing you but it feels it must. It feels it has no choice, and when you get the better of it, you see the apology and the sadness in its eyes.

This guy just looks like a fat imp with a constantly mischievous scowl.

All in all I find him to be, while graphically similar, a step in the opposite direction as, say the Land Dreugh from some time ago: http://youtu.be/sz9ZqrDmDsY - which was freaky, sure, but was also an improvement over previous designs IMO.

I see why you think it looks like an imp in the face, but personally I think the Morrowind design is way more hilarious and weird looking.

If a company spent half their boob physics budget on the actual game, I have suspicions every game would be Triple-A

A thumping stomping mass of destruction in motion with rage intoxicated blood fueling its one track mind. A sight to get the heart of any adventurer going like a shot of adrenaline to the veins.

judging from that things jiggly belly they are using them for appropriate parts anyway. I just dont know what else to call the physics applied to body parts like that, but I am serious that I think it is a nice touch. That thing comes to life with its gut bouncing around like that /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

It was weird, but it was also expressionless, which made it kinda creepy. This assigns this all-too-silly mischevious look to him, and the side to side looking animations, etc, are just so silly.

Then again I had better start taking him seriously because he flattened that Dragon Knight pretty easily, haha!

@Pangscar Done and done.

The proper animation term is "Secondary Motion", although that also applies to things like tails and capes and hair.

I thought he looked pretty well done. Wish ZOS would release more of their creature compendium videos like this. So far we only have the Dreugh and Ogrim. I want to see more!!!

Had my fingers crossed that i would get to fight Ogrims in ESO, so i was pleasantly surprised when i saw their twitter post today about this! I think they look great...not quite as creepy as the Morrowind version, but it was really the graphics in Morrowind that made everything feel odd and creepy in the end to me.

Quite unexpected, but I love him. He looks much more human, which makes him that much more weird in my book.
And jigglebellys are a huge plus, too.

In the article, it is AMAZING to me how close the model is to the concept. Those artists are pro! Impressive for sure, but I worry a bit about render-monkey syndrome. It's a lot less fulfilling for an artist to copy something 100% than to evolve the design and make it their own. But whatever, they likely don't have the time to get creative and are nicely compensated for their efforts.

I see I'm probably going to be hating ogrims again.

First time playing Morrowind and took my low level steel armed and armored character out exploring. Ended up someplace called the Grazelands. Saw the big green critter with nipble rings as it moved to attack. Swung my steel sword only to see "Your weapon has not effect". Did it again while frantically backpedaling and had the same message come up. Had a few seconds to think "Oh *crap*", then got to see my character pounded into a small steel armed puddle on the ground. I've held a grudge ever since. [normal weapons didn't effect daedra; best early level weapon find was the cursed ebony sword in one of the ruins. As long as you never put it down or dropped it.]

I think his facial features make him look like a cross between a baby and an imp; as such I'm not overly impressed. But then again the overall design of monsters, races, armor/weapons, architecture and choice of color-palette in general seem to indicate a more comical, unrealistic and generic fantasy approach, which I personally do not like for an Elder Scrolls game.

But that's just my personal opinion on the matter.

He looks a bit too cartoonish for me. Also the 'clothing' seems to have merged with his skin (Like in WoW). And the way his belly flops around just seems wrong.

*Kills an Ogrim*
"You receive loot: 10 gold"

I find myself thinking, now where exactly did i find those coins?

(please note, this is not a criticism, just an amusing observation on loincloth monsters)

I avoid looking at thing like this as even the best designed monsters seem really odd when not properly in the game setting. I end up worry over nothing as they normally look fine once I am actually playing.

Not fond of the face, but everything else looked pretty spot on. Why does it need to be grinning...

Because they are in their happy place, pounding would-be heroes into mush. They are having just as much fun killing us as we are playing the game...
