Am I the only one annoyed with all the COD hate?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:12 am

I noticed on many gaming forums and on Youtube that the Call of Duty franchise has been getting arseloads of flak. Now, I'm a COD fan, so I can safely say that this somewhat irks me. Mind you, I enjoy plenty of other shooters like Battlefield, Killzone, and Halo so it's not like they're insulting the only shooter franchise that I play. But seriously, can someone tell me why COD is getting so much unneeded heat? I mean, sure, the games aren't perfect and they didn't really innovate the franchise since COD4, but I've played shooters that are MUCH worse than COD (Medal of Honor, anyone) and they don't get a fraction of the hate.

Am I the only one getting a bit annoyed at this excessive hate?

This is just me, but I pretty much hate anything that Activision puts their name on. Honestly, they are worse than EA. They get their money out of a franchise than toss it out.(Guitar Hero)

COD has been pretty much the same since COD4. I don't hate it, but I won't play it.

I thought people hated the CoD fan(boy)s more than the game itself.

It's not that I hate CAll of Duty. It's that I hate the people who never shutup about it, and treat it like its the only game in the world.

What I hate is how COD creeps into other games as Devs dumb down thier games to appeal to the COD fan-bois.....like how Bioware turned Mass Effect 2 into a rail shooter with a few RPG elements in a blatant pander. They totally nerfed character development and inventory management because some people lack the patience to tune thier character.

Always loved CoD single player, its perfect for just zoning out, listening to my music and blowing generic bad guys away without even thinking. Every now and then you just need to be able to turn your brain off for a bit you know? Kind of what games are for (PS:dont actually turn your brain off). But I hate hate hate the multiplayer with a burning passion, and the majority of the CoD community are your stereotypical potty-mouthed 8-12 year olds, you might think "oh, hes just generalizing." and I am, but if you play a few games of any CoD online you will think the same thing, its a joke to be honest.

So I think its not the game most people hate but its the community itself that just gives it a bad name.

I don't hate Call of Duty, there games have potential, but of course Activision makes them choke out the same game with a few minor tweaks and slaps a number on it, and then the fan-boys come and say "OMG b3st gamee EVAR!" Personally I think they could make a very amazing FPS if they had more than a year in development time, why do you think Beth games are so great? Because they are in development for a 2-3 years each.

I think you're starting to see the trend here. The game COD it self is not the problem, its the COD community and its influence beyond. I personally don't like all the immature 12 year olds who play it. i posted a link on another discussion about how the COD community had effected the ACR(rifle) the REAL thing, i was looking to buy one and the company had to defend its self by saying its not meant for the youth of COD.Yeah every game will have immature people but its really bad when it comes to COD.I agree with Tiberius67. The devs will go where the money is even if its poor quailty and now with the release of Brink we will see some good quality Teambased gameplay and hopefully other devs will catch on and produce other higher quality games and not just visuals. Bottom line is that people are starting to act out towards the immature nature of the COD community and Brink gives us something that is long overdue( a good quality fps) .

People hate Call of Duty because of the group of people associated with it.

Its like hating rap because you don't like the way they dress.

Not all rap is bad...not every call of duty is bad either. I happened to enjoy Modern Warfare 2 very much. Black Ops on the other hand, I did not enjoy and returned it.

This. A thousand times this. [censored] Activision. Every time I hear about something they do, it's never good news and only serves to deepen my contempt for them.

Also, my other big issue is that CoD is getting milked hardcoe. It's becoming the Zelda/Mario of the new generation, when it should have been done and over with. But that's what I think, of course. I just wish it would stop and make room for other shooters and other ideas, instead of trying (and usually succeeding) to steal the show.

Hell, CoD is so popular, a ton of other shooters with a focus on online play are using experience, killstreak, and class systems. That is not a coincidence, and I think it's severely hurting the creativity of modern gaming.

The difference being Mario and Zelda games are still good and aren't nearly as rushed.

COD4 was a work of modern art.

W@W was nearly as good.

after that it was all downhill. and at about a 30degree incline

The game is also rediculously easy. It doesnt hold your hand, it dry humps you.

The reason I hate CoD is because its not fun to me.
Also, every single CoD game since they introduced since MW series is exactly the same. So stupid.

Not being much of a Nintendo fan, I can't say I have an opinion on them. But I will say that any game series, no matter how good, should never be milked for that long under any circumstances. That's just one of my pet peeves.

I don't even want to see Persona go on forever, as much as I love the games. I'd rather see some innovation, not a copy of Persona 4 with a different story and characters. That's just lazy.

There's definitely an element of hating it because it's popular. I actually liked MW 1 and 2, and I'm going to buy Blops when it comes down in price. Unforunately, I think the series is definitely doomed under Activision.

Let's be honest here, the poster child for exploited and abused gaming series is and always will be Pokemon.

The reason of why I hate COD if because they are pretty much the same after MW2, pleasing the devoted fans rather then thinking something new for themselves, and rushing their products doesnt help

As for the Nintendo thing, they did right ,their games are still enjoyable, unlike COD, and let be honest, Fallout New Vegas and the future Skyrim arent gonna be the latest Fallouts and TES, there will be more,

I don't even want to see Persona go on forever, as much as I love the games. I'd rather see some innovation, not a copy of Persona 4 with a different story and characters. That's just lazy.

Well, Persona is just a Spin Off of the Shing Megami Tensei Series, there are others spin off too, besides Persona

I enjoy the games arcade FPS style, but the constant sequels and $10.00 map packs are pissing me off. Mainly I just hate the greedy corporate actions behind the games and the dumb FPS franchise wars that are as meaningless as the Xbox vs PS wars.

Stupid greedy Activision pigs.

Arcade FPS vs other kind of FPS

Examples and diferences please. To me, self-admitted laymen of the genre they are all the same.
