Am I the only one who wanted classes to be removed

This. Was never a fan of them.
I liked the way Fallout 1/2 handled character creation, however.

well, I think it's because TES is one of the most unique games out there, sure, it has it's flaws, but no one can deny that it isn't one of the most unique open world action RPG's out there.
TES games have been the most relaxing RPGs I've ever played. When someone can make RPGs that are so relaxing and addictive while keeping up the RPG elements even if they made a few boo boos with Skyrim... Yeah, that has to be a series that smells of some sort of magic. Or maybe coffee. I consider coffee the most magic addictive ever.

but I would, and many others

Let me correct myself, I'd buy it, but not for $60. I'd have waited a long while for the price to drop. Just like there are many people who love certain game series unconditionally, there are many people who have standards and that leveling system was behind the times even when oblivion was released.

People like to look at games like they do many things in the past, through rose colored glasses. They think "having attributes was awesome" and it was much better then not having them, but then they forget the outright goofy and/or stupid things, like making fireball spells that also healed you, 100% chameleon, and having to make the skills you want to use minor skills rather then major skills to ensure you get +5 on each level up. Then there was the absurd level scaling that left you feeling a lack of accomplishment.

Edit: Wow, its amazing what words are censored on this board. Wasn't even a curse word or anything close to it.

Yes we are. At least I am. I'm a bit of a Beth bootlicker when it comes to my love of their style of open world.

I liked the class system on oblivion but after playing skyrim I don't think I can go back to them. The system in skyrim is a step in the right direction for class creation.

Activision is far worse IMO. Whenever they have a successful series, they pretty much force the developers to make more games until they run the series into the ground.

Classes still exist and so do Attributes. You are allowed to create your class as you play, in lieu of making a selection from a list. The Attributes still exist as you increase either M/H/S at each level up.

Actually, I meant the creatures you fight in Skyrim. lol I run into trolls all the time.

They aren't really attributes though...and they have nothing to do with how you play since you could play a mage and choose all health or Stamina.

They had MHS in previous games, and they weren't considered attributes in those.

I thought it was Ubisoft that pioneered that technique.

Maybe, but Activision is far more extreme, releasing a new guitar hero every two weeks, making the once innovative Call of Duty series year after year with no changes?

In the end, we still do the same at each level up. What are you defining Attributes as exactly and how is it any different from what we now have?

you know, the strength, endurance, agility. Now, everyone has the same jumping height, the same speed, the same chance for critical hit, it just makes characters feel less unique

I liked the class system on oblivion but after playing skyrim I don't think I can go back to them. The system in skyrim is a step in the right direction for class creation.

A good way for them to have split the difference was to have you pick a class in the beginning, and get a 10% bonus to experience in those skills you are majored in, and then have the Warrior/Thief/Mage stones give an additional 10% to those skills they are over.

Problem is that it would have made it a little less accessible for newbies to ES so I can understand why they removed it.

I would have simply liked that if you had certain skills at a certain level you'd get some different flavor text from NPCs. Like if you are at a 50 in Conjuration, Destruction, Restoration, Lockpicking, and Archery, a guard might say "Is it true, are you that Witchhunter that people have been talking about?" Something simple, but a way to keep the spirit of having classes alive.

I liked the perk system, but perks AND attributes would be even better, although, if I had to choose, I would want attributes more, as long as the fixed the annoying way to level up

I thought Altmer can jump higher and run faster.

What I don't like about the lack of classes now is that EVERYTHING levels my character.

Say I want to play a warrior, a pure warrior, you know, heavy armor, sword, shield, etc. Now this guy levels up from talking to merchants, opening locks, picking up skill books, etc. Before long I'm higher level than I want to be based on the warrior skills I'm trying to focus on.

Sure if you had to pick 5 skills to be your 'class' you wouldn't be able to get to 50+ level unless they readjusted the leveling mechanism, but that is doable.

What really bites it for me is the new high level achievement. If you want to get that you literally have to have about 100 skill in all skills. Why would a warrior want a 100 skill in any magic skill? He wouldn't, but Bethesda is forcing us all down the plain vanilla path so the CoD crowd can kill everything, get their thrills and leave, which leaves us that actually want to role-play in a role-playing game the hardest options of all.

That's more because they are taller, and speed is porportional to height. Not a good system, a thief khajiit should move faster than a wizened old Altmer mage.

I agree, they removed speed and jumping height, but Strength, Endurance, Willpower and all of those just added to either M/H/S. Yes Strength added to Melee damage, but it was such a fractional amount, it was hardly noticeable. Now we have perks that influence those levels bar a greater margin.

Before we just had 4 perks per skill that was forced upon the player, now we have many to actually make a choice from.
