Am I the only one who wanted classes to be removed

Post » Tue Aug 07, 2012 11:10 pm

Okay, I know this is not a popular opinion, but hear me out. (although I will admit, I didn't appreciate birthsigns and attributes to be removed)

The reason I didn't like it was because it felt like an arbitrary technicality. I could technically pick warrior but only use magic for the entire game. Thus, I didn't feel like a warrior, I knew I was a mage, but my character being labeled as a warrior just felt annoying. It was like someone telling me that I shouldn't be a mage because I was supposed to be a warrior. Again, I knew I was a mage, screw what some menu said. Now, your class is what you make of it throughout your entire playthrough. The only reason I could think it would be useful was to cheat the system and stay at level one the whole time.

I'm glad it was removed too...I always made a custom class anyway(even in Daggerfall), and I rarely even stuck to my own archetypes lol.

I prefer the Oblivion system to be honest. There isn't any more freedom or restriction with either one. If anything, I would say that Oblivion is more free since minor skills do not contribute to a level up, so you are free to sneak around, dabble in Alchemy or whatever and it won't cause to level up beyond what you want to. For example, in Oblivion I sneaked a lot and I do so as well in Fallout but I can't in Skyrim since it levels me up and I don't want that skill leveling me up.

I miss Major/Minors a lot.

My criticism of the past games was the fact that you needed to use "efficient leveling". I just want to level up, get my bonuses and move on. I don't want to do some freaky deeky necromantic ritual to get +5/+5/+5

I used to hate that classes were removed, but then just found myself making custom classes... I don't mind either way, but those custom classes are do fun. That might be why I like Skyrim's way of doing that.

While I did like classes, I don't mind how it is done. Skyrim does some things badly, like what was mentioned. If we could choose at least two major skills or just have a slower leveling system, we might find a happy medium.

I disagree with the slower leveling, you need quick leveling for the perks, and you NEED to change your playstyle to hit level fifty, which is really annoying for achievement hunters

Yes, they did need a different method for leveling up attributes.

I like Skyrim's way of levelling, it does make you over powered but I figured it is designed to force you to play a certain way. If you don't want to level up from sneaking then don't sneak, if you don't want to level up by using magic, then don't use magic. Either way, Dovahkiin is supposed to be a god like character there for god like abilities and power. I have mods that make certain parts of skyrim harder to play even as a maxed out character. Tougher dragons and more dragons are a couple that I have and they definitely give me a bit more of a challenge.

In TES, it's really easy to get overpowered anyway

In Morrowind, you pretty much are a god once you hit level 30.

If they kept the leveling system intact from oblivion, I would have not purchased Skyrim.

well, I think it's because TES is one of the most unique games out there, sure, it has it's flaws, but no one can deny that it isn't one of the most unique open world action RPG's out there.
