I like the cities, but it does annoy me how all the major ones are closed like they were in Oblivion. Not sure why you are comparing this to Oblivions cities, though - Skyrim beats Oblivions cities in every aspect including size.

Some of them are pretty, but I kept expecting something huge and grand with loads of houses, a huge marketplace and a big dock with loads of pirates and ships like in Oblivion.
I understand that Skyrim isn't as powerful money and population wise, but I still think the game should have had larger cities. I found Solitude and expected it to be one of the smallest.

I don't get why you dislike the cities. For me, Whiterun is the best city mainly because they are so friendly lol. But when you talk about beauty I'd say every city in Skyrim is just amazingly done and you can't help but love them

I admit that I was a bit surprised at how small the "large" cities are. But then I remembered Todd saying that the world was much more rugged than previous TES games. And I hate snow and cold in RL so I knew I wouldn't much care for the frozen areas of the map. Yet, I accepted it and decided to play it as I have all the TES games. Oblivion was my favorite. I loved the huge cities and beyond loved my house in Skingrad. I felt rich with that big ol' three story thing with my own servant to clean up around the place (like it ever got dirty). I accept that the towns and cities will be small and rugged. I embrace the country side and am amazed at the detail they have put in. I mean, I actually get reminded that I have my fire spell readied when I enter a town or get told not to litter if I drop something on the ground. I love how the people who populate these small towns mention little things I have done.

I think it's important to not try and compare what we love from each of the TES games to the current one. They are individual games that have a common thread of history. I love hearing the music from one of the previous games or read a book that mentions something I experienced in a previous game. But each game has been designed differently based on so many factors, mainly the technology at the time. They are also designed to tell a different part of the entire story and history of the Elder Scrolls.

Just my opinion.
