Am I the only person who dislikes all the Skyrim cities?

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 6:19 pm

Some of them are pretty, but I kept expecting something huge and grand with loads of houses, a huge marketplace and a big dock with loads of pirates and ships like in Oblivion.
I understand that Skyrim isn't as powerful money and population wise, but I still think the game should have had larger cities. I found Solitude and expected it to be one of the smallest.

I think the cities are amazing, personally. And even a fully modded Oblivion doesn't have cities that rival Skyrim in size or complexity.

The cities are brilliant. I remember the first time I entered... I forget the name, apparently the oldest hold. Winterhold? Anyway it's stunning.

Not enough people in the cities. There must be less than 100 in populated places. 1000 npcs in the wilderness. That's a fail. :sadvaultboy:

I dislike villages, they are all the same. And just thinking about Riverwood makes me nauseous.

Actually he is right on something thescale of cities hasn't changed they are alwyas small , look at Witherun , it looks lik ethey prepared the base to place more houses but for lackof time they didn't add , I have this feeling with many other cities , they seem to have not had enough time to put more homes in ... also a bit disappointed with the minor jarl feuds , are supposed to host a jarl and they look smaller than the village in solstheim ... that was a nice one btw and had a bit more the "nordic" feel ...

overall the cities are nice but I expected much better and much larger environemnts ...

They're not really bustling like Todd described many times over. :(

My favorite cities ever are Solitude and Winterhold. They're very beautiful and breathtaking. However, I can understand how you feel. I would highly recommend you to create/download mods to make bigger, better cities. I absolutely love many city mods, always nice to explore them.

I can see what he is saying. The cities are fantastic, but Todd kept giving us the impression that they were going to be massive. Solitude is definitely my favorite though, with the docks and the cliffs surrounding the city. But Markarth is fantastic too, it just looks gorgeous. Reminds me of Rivendell almost from Lord of the Rings.

I haven't been to every city yet - but they seem pretty hit or miss to me. Their either really well done, or just really boring.

Isn't it fun what we can nitpick about when we put all our efforts towards doing just that?

Do you really think the cities should be huge? See any culturally influential or highly populated cities in the coldest places on Earth? Besides, I can only assume that the giant problems around here only make people want to move to Cyrodil more and more. I don't really think merchants want to travel up here if they don't have to. I think it's pretty realistic.

How is Winterhold breathtaking? I remember being traveling through it in Arena and was expecting to be blown away when I reached it in Skyrim only to find that it consists of a magic college and a few houses. Unless I'm missing something or my game glitched.

I've only been through Whiterun and Solitude in my past 40 hours, so I don't have much say in this. But from what I've seen, both cities are beautiful and much more lively than Oblivion's. ^_^
