I ignored the people at concord because of Preston (New game).
He is certainly love ordering around his General, and he himself goofing off in Sanctuary.

Preston and Strong share my hatred.Preston for doling out too many quests and he keeps starting the last friendship dialogue over again with me,and Strong because he's a right pain to travel with when getting his perk(can't lockpick anything)
Deacon makes me lol,was doing a mission near the end of the story and he was switching disguises every few minutes it seemed,at one point i turned around in a firefight and Deacon was in his tighty whities.Wondering if it had bugged out or was it doing that for anyone else?
On my latest play thru him and his survivors are still sitting in the Museum waiting for me to return with the Power Armor and lead them to Sanctuary....have not decided if I'll ever go get them.
It's kind of sad how he wanders around Sanctuary looking at the ground. I feel sorry for him...but I can't put up with his constant hitting on me. He's like a stalker.
I will at least talk to Preston and travel with him long enough to get his perk. Strong? His kind are shoot on sight to me, will never use him.
I think 'Hated' is a bit harsh. I don't hate him, I'm just not interested in him as a follower. It's more like he's a waste of a companion slot in the game (and voice files space).
I don't hate Preston but sometimes, traveling around with Preston is like waiting for a nuclear winter.
I used him for a while, before I got any other companions, but after that I dropped him right away. It always took him too long to fire a shot because of his default weapon and most of the time he missed, Piper became more useful than him right away even though her default weapon is a 10mm, at least she scored some hits.
Yeah, Cait Romances WAY too easily. You get entirely too much credit for small things like lock picking and terminal hacking. It's harder to get Codsworths' loyalty.
Who said he was poorly written? He's just flat out annoying in terms of quest assignment. If they simply made it so you had to ASK him for another Mintueman quest in order to get one, he would be semi-bearable to converse with.
Preston is the second most interesting character in the entire Minutemen story...
And that is why I don't support the Minutemen.
Heh, that's cold.
On my last playthrough, siding with BoS, I never visited either Concorde or Sanctuary. The one I've just started, I intend to finally embrace the Minutemen - but I won't be having Preston as a companion. My schtick for this one is to max-out Dogmeat's perk and Lone Wanderer, and have no other companions.
I'd love it if, when Preston says he's taking the gang to Sanctuary, you could turn around and say "That place? Hoo boy, if you think Concord is bad, you ain't seen nothing. The raiders up there keep Deathclaws as pets, train 'em to herd Yao Guai. Don't you listen to that old junkie, she's crazy."
Probably because not all of us find them annoying.
I don't find any of them annoying. Marcy can be a little irritating, but she gets over it in time and even Jun stops being a sad sack after a while. Once I get Mama to get off drugs, she's fine. I actually like Preston and Sturges is the dude.
I guess I'm a boyscout then 'cause I don't want my NPCs to be subservient and kowtow to me and I like to help people, not use them, abuse them, rob them and murder them because the bother me sometimes. Maybe that's why I always get along great with Preston, Codsworth, Curie, Valentine and Piper and have a pretty good relationship with Strong. McReady and Cait are like nails on a chalkboard to me and don't get me started on Hancock, what a sleezeball.
He is a bit 'bland' but that is how he is supposed to be. The Long's are a bit annoying but that too is the way they are supposed to be. If every NPC in the game was "uber cool" it wouldn't be better, it would be cliche.
I run with Dogmeat only. No way I'm going to waste my Lone Wanderer 4 perk on some judgmental human who is no more effective than a dog, less so when you consider Dogmeat's special abilities.
I nothing him, which is even worse. If you hate someone atleast there is some passion involved, i am just indifferent. He is bland, boring and speaks in a monotone voice.
Don't hate him... just find him incredibly dull. I like all the other companions, by varying degrees, aside from Strong (didn't like the Supermutant companions in past games either), but Preston has no personality. I mean, I get that he's supposed to be this simple, down-to-earth nice guy, but you can make a character like that not boring by giving him actual, you know, character. Maybe he would have been alright had he been voiced by an actor with at least some modicum of charisma who didn't sound like he was reading his lines for the first time ever, but... no. Add to the fact that he can pile on like three radiant quests at a time just if you walk too close to him, and he goes from simply bland to extremely annoying. I ended up moving to Sunshine Tidings and visit Sanctuary very rarely. And sneak past Preston when I do.
I like Preston. I just have not used him as a follower since he is second in charge of the Minuteman and the top two officers should not be going on away mission at the same time.
Deacon keeps showing me his underpants also, which makes me wonder why I can't romance him...he's clearly up for it
I think Curie has a nicely done romance. You can't win her over the smallest things like lockpicking or what not, but your actual choices in dialogue and quest. Also love watching her character develop after her quest.
