Is there any companion more hated than...

I ignored the people at concord because of Preston (New game).

He is certainly love ordering around his General, and he himself goofing off in Sanctuary.

Preston and Strong share my hatred.Preston for doling out too many quests and he keeps starting the last friendship dialogue over again with me,and Strong because he's a right pain to travel with when getting his perk(can't lockpick anything)

Deacon makes me lol,was doing a mission near the end of the story and he was switching disguises every few minutes it seemed,at one point i turned around in a firefight and Deacon was in his tighty whities.Wondering if it had bugged out or was it doing that for anyone else?

On my latest play thru him and his survivors are still sitting in the Museum waiting for me to return with the Power Armor and lead them to Sanctuary....have not decided if I'll ever go get them.

It's kind of sad how he wanders around Sanctuary looking at the ground. I feel sorry for him...but I can't put up with his constant hitting on me. He's like a stalker.

I will at least talk to Preston and travel with him long enough to get his perk. Strong? His kind are shoot on sight to me, will never use him.

I think 'Hated' is a bit harsh. I don't hate him, I'm just not interested in him as a follower. It's more like he's a waste of a companion slot in the game (and voice files space).

It must be a glitch, because for me Deacon hilariously lost his hair/wig every time we fast travelled. Since I changed his outfit to loungewear, glasses and a militia cap he's stayed in those items. And looks like Bruce Willis xD

Damn it devs, why can't we romance Deacon? Starting to think he's gay, since I can't even flirt a little with him. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.) Have had to take up with MacCready instead, though.

As for Preston, okay yes, he's annoying insofar as the constant quests etc but put him in the Grognak costume and HNNNNNNNGGGGG...

I don't hate Preston but sometimes, traveling around with Preston is like waiting for a nuclear winter.

I don't get the Preston hate. To me he is a simple character, but it works because his motivation are simple to match his dialog and circumstance. I like that about him.

Cait confuses me from a story telling perspective.

Spoiler
Spends her formative years in an unloving house, sold into slavery, likely a body slave through her teens and early twenties. Learns the hard ways of life to survive and escape, murders her parents, takes up a career as a pit fighter for the entertainment of those who enslaved her before

.. But then she's gushing her life story and offering her tender suppressed love after I pick a few locks. All while kicking a Psycho habit?

And PRESTON is the poorly written one?

I used him for a while, before I got any other companions, but after that I dropped him right away. It always took him too long to fire a shot because of his default weapon and most of the time he missed, Piper became more useful than him right away even though her default weapon is a 10mm, at least she scored some hits.

Yeah, Cait Romances WAY too easily. You get entirely too much credit for small things like lock picking and terminal hacking. It's harder to get Codsworths' loyalty.

Who said he was poorly written? He's just flat out annoying in terms of quest assignment. If they simply made it so you had to ASK him for another Mintueman quest in order to get one, he would be semi-bearable to converse with.

Preston is the second most interesting character in the entire Minutemen story...

And that is why I don't support the Minutemen.

Heh, that's cold. :)

On my last playthrough, siding with BoS, I never visited either Concorde or Sanctuary. The one I've just started, I intend to finally embrace the Minutemen - but I won't be having Preston as a companion. My schtick for this one is to max-out Dogmeat's perk and Lone Wanderer, and have no other companions.

I'd love it if, when Preston says he's taking the gang to Sanctuary, you could turn around and say "That place? Hoo boy, if you think Concord is bad, you ain't seen nothing. The raiders up there keep Deathclaws as pets, train 'em to herd Yao Guai. Don't you listen to that old junkie, she's crazy."

Preston, Mama Murphy, and the Wongs are all terribly annoying. I can't for the life of me understand why Bethesda would want them to be the first NPCs you meet in the game. Not exactly putting your best foot forward. Sturges is pretty cool and I like how he plays a part in the late game if you take a particular path. Preston wouldn't be all that bad if they had given him a better voice actor and didn't make him a complete boyscout. His look is actually pretty cool!

Probably because not all of us find them annoying.

I don't find any of them annoying. Marcy can be a little irritating, but she gets over it in time and even Jun stops being a sad sack after a while. Once I get Mama to get off drugs, she's fine. I actually like Preston and Sturges is the dude.

I guess I'm a boyscout then 'cause I don't want my NPCs to be subservient and kowtow to me and I like to help people, not use them, abuse them, rob them and murder them because the bother me sometimes. Maybe that's why I always get along great with Preston, Codsworth, Curie, Valentine and Piper and have a pretty good relationship with Strong. McReady and Cait are like nails on a chalkboard to me and don't get me started on Hancock, what a sleezeball.

Preston drives me crazy with his persistent whining about synths.
It's really disgusting and annoying.
He needs some big girl panties.

He is a bit 'bland' but that is how he is supposed to be. The Long's are a bit annoying but that too is the way they are supposed to be. If every NPC in the game was "uber cool" it wouldn't be better, it would be cliche.

I run with Dogmeat only. No way I'm going to waste my Lone Wanderer 4 perk on some judgmental human who is no more effective than a dog, less so when you consider Dogmeat's special abilities.

I nothing him, which is even worse. If you hate someone atleast there is some passion involved, i am just indifferent. He is bland, boring and speaks in a monotone voice.

I cant hate a video character per se, but that said - yea, within context of game hate, I despise preston.

He's a con man, useless, and all talk - no walk. In-game, he constantly introduces himself -which makes sense from pov of promoting the MM, but in comtext of he gets others to do the work while claiming the credit, makes him a limelight leech.

When you actually take him out as a companion, he comstamtly comments, complains about dust, smells, not liking the dark. Imswaer it is as if he is the poster child of a hypochondriac, afraid of every phobia minute man. Before he became the allegedly claimed last MM - a false claim given all the MM that pop up even before the MM become resurrected with your work - he must have been the local MM chapter's water boy / coffee fetcher.

Preston is basically the guy we know at every office / neighborhood in the world - the local mooch, leech, ass kisser, svck up, and always hyping up his own contribution.

He is looking for the Lone Survivor to be the MM General so Preston can enjoy the easy life being essentially a PR flack and accept gifts from admiring settlers who have heard of the good stuff actual MM who do the fighting and bleeding earn.

As a functional follower he is also more annoying - not sure why but the idle AI in all other companions for me is so much better. They dont constantly hang around me. With Preston, even building objects in build mode is hard because of his constant getting underfoot pr blocking where you can place objects.

I would shoot him dead and stuff his corpse into a super mutant meat bag of he was a killable NPC.

Next run, I will for sure just never go to Concord or leave them at the Museum.

Don't hate him... just find him incredibly dull. I like all the other companions, by varying degrees, aside from Strong (didn't like the Supermutant companions in past games either), but Preston has no personality. I mean, I get that he's supposed to be this simple, down-to-earth nice guy, but you can make a character like that not boring by giving him actual, you know, character. Maybe he would have been alright had he been voiced by an actor with at least some modicum of charisma who didn't sound like he was reading his lines for the first time ever, but... no. Add to the fact that he can pile on like three radiant quests at a time just if you walk too close to him, and he goes from simply bland to extremely annoying. I ended up moving to Sunshine Tidings and visit Sanctuary very rarely. And sneak past Preston when I do.

I like Preston. I just have not used him as a follower since he is second in charge of the Minuteman and the top two officers should not be going on away mission at the same time.

I think Curie has a nicely done romance. You can't win her over the smallest things like lockpicking or what not, but your actual choices in dialogue and quest. Also love watching her character develop after her quest.
