Is there any companion more hated than...

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 12:26 am

Preston?

I have banished him to the castle and avoid talking to him even if I have missions to turn in.

I've read of others putting a sack over his head, a dress, stripping him naked. Sending him to the far reaches of the map to a undeveloped settlement.

I know people have taked about accents of companions, how they fight, move. But really, is there more hate for anyone else?

I slept with him first then as a wind up send all my latest lovers to live with him in Sanctuary :) Might assign him to the bottom bunk underneath MacCready.

There are a number of companions I like, a few I simply don't care about, and then their is Preston. I can't say I actually hate the guy as much as others, but the guy is simply one of the most uninteresting NPCs I've had the pleasure of knowing in the game, and possesses the personality of a rock. But with some rocks having more personality than Preston. Primarily Obsidian. Oh, snap. I can't believe I went there.

But in all seriousness, I find overall that companions are done well in this game as characters. Just not Preston.

I read somewhere once where a BOS player made one of their remote settements a deathcamp for ghoul settlers to be sent to, and sent Preston there to run the Gulag.

Now that's hatefull.

I just friended him for the perk. Then sent him to castle..Though the idea of an undeveloped settlement, all by himself with no bed, water or food sounds nice.

Well, Preston is just kind of dull, not like he's some horrible dude deserving a horrible fate. Man, you guys are harsh.

Having said that, i just never picked him as a companion because of said boringness, I felt like it would be like traveling around the wild wasteland with your straight-arrow dad, and what fun is that?

I'd been ignoring Preston's quests for a while, but last night I decided to do some as I wanted to expand my settlement network a bit more, so I went back to Sanctuary where I'd left him and turned in the quests I had and got a few more. I also had to visit Castle as part of one of the quests, so got some quests from the radio, and then after completing all of the quest, went back turned them in to Preston, got another one (he only gave me one) and then when I completed and turned *that* in, I kept talking to him over and over and he *refused to give me more quests*!!

So now I have *no* Preston quests in my journal and he just keeps saying he'll let me know if anything comes up. Time to go do something else for while then I suppose!

P.S. I do really like Preston as a person though. He's honest, kind, and trustworthy and that sort of thing goes a very long way with me.

Then when you talk to him, he gives you new chores. "General, thanks for saying hello. Now I have these 15 kidnappings and other crappy stuff for you to do."

Lol true its his constant chores make me afraid to approach him at all anymore. And when he gives me a quest I punch him, in the face, with bat

The only thing about Preston I find really annoying is that he won't take on the responsibility of rebuilding the Minutemen....... But once he's talked you into being his boss, he spends the rest of the game telling you where to go and what to do!

from a story point of view, it would have made more sense for him to be the General and make the player his 2i/c.

I don't mind Preston but that radiant quests of his... Ugh... Why a companion is a quest giver... scrap that... Why companion is RADIANT quest giver? Why, oh why?! The quest from the radio? Fine, that's why the radio is here in the first place, but I should report to radio guy or whoever, not Preston.

I guess if that's what you're into. Just as long as it's consensual.

Apparently, I suffered from the bestest bug in the whole wide world:

Preston stopped giving me missions.

Not even the Faction missions that actually lead to new settlements.

He just did his rounds at Sanctuary and called out a greeting every now and then.

Which was too bad, because I actually kinda LIKE the Settlement missions (you know, clear out this spot for a new settlement, get these people to join the Minutemen). I just like to see my list of cities grow.

He can KEEP the other stuff (unless it leads me to an unexplored area I managed to miss, then, thank you Preston!).

Of course, I NEVER use Preston as a Companion. I treat him as a top-tier NPC Quest Giver. That difference in perception makes him much easier to deal with.

Too bad you can't banish an NPC into the nothingness of the wastes like you could in FO1 and FO2. Heh. I used to enjoy stopping randomly on the map and abandoning Myron to never be seen again.

I actually like Preston but there's a reason for that and as this is in general I can't go into it.

That said, I hope Bethesda patch the way his radiant quests are handled, seems more like an oversight than purposeful design.

I ignored his quests to begin with, but now that ive left Sanctuary and my tiny nation state in the northwest corner to live aboard the Prydwen I have absolutely no interactions with him or the Minutemen at large.

At least that Laser Musket weapon he has is a good design, but otherwise him and the Minutemen are so flat and boring.

OP - yes: Danse, Cait, Strong... Danse is a putz, Cait is an annoying [censored] and Strong is too unpredictable.

preston may be a goody-goody, but, then again, so is Nick. I like them both. And I like Piper, Codsworth, Curie and Dogmeat.

The other companions offer me nothing. Danse is too demanding and treats me like crap; all Cait wants is stealing and drugs; Strong wants to crush some heads but not be mean and gets mad if I try to protect myself?; and don't get me started on McReady - cool perk, impossible person.

I could only hope for a similarity to The Wheel of Misfortune from Fable 2.

I killed more spouses in that thing...

While I haven't purchased the game yet, from the playthroughs I have seen, Preston is on par with that horrid Tri Pup from FO3. Generally speaking, I have a hard time with companions in every game. They often prove to be more work than worth.
