Things you can't take seriously

Post » Fri Oct 19, 2012 9:25 am

What are some things that you can't take seriously?

Personally, one thing I can't take seriously is when an ugly person tries to pick on a pretty person. It just seems like jealousy to me.

Now, I know that sounds pretty weird labeling ugly and pretty, but to me, if someone who looks stereotypically dorky/ugly/weird/creepy tries picking on someone who is stereotypically popular/cool/pretty I just can't take it seriously and just consider it as the ugly person being jealous.

It happens all the time, amongst my friends even. One not-as-attractive girl will start talking crap about another kind-of-hot girl out of no where about how "her hair is SO fried" or "she looks stupid in florals" and "she's such a wannabe" and I just think "you're just jealous because she looks good.". I have a philosophy saying that a pretty person will always be pretty and will forever be treated as such in comparison to someone who simply isn't. (In spite of people getting ugly etc. over the years.)

___________

So, that's my rant. What are somethings you just cannot take seriously, and why?

How is someone who is "pretty" supposed to be treated in your philosophy?

Also this thread after reading your post is something I can't take seriously

Any accounts of ghosts, ouija boards, speaking to the dead, telling your future etc. It's not really that I can't take it seriously like I think they are an idiot or lying - just that there's more often than not a much more likely explanation. Plus the fallibility of memory and the fact that the person telling you already believes, and so it's likely they could unconsciously leave out details or embellish to fit what they already believe.
Also most conspiracy theories. Occam's razor is your friend.

When someone society has deemed attractive has a false sense of superiority over others based on their "looks" only.

For my mental health I don't take 90% of this forum seriously. If I did I'd be in trouble.

In general, pretty people just have it better. :ermm:

I'll admit that's a good one. It's a bit of a stretch, but it's legitimately something I cannot take seriously.

These are others on my list.

Also, when two people are arguing and they start picking at each other's grammar as a way of arguing. It just invalidates the entire argument. I don't care if the other person used the wrong form of your, just rebut already!

The internet. People who act tough. When people clearly exaggerate things. Vain people. People who won't listen or change their minds. Cats. The news.

Oh and Dalek sometimes I mistake your posts for the ramblings of a mad man ^_^

Alright, that's fine, it's what you believe. I just have a hard time grasping it. Beauty varies from person to person as well as my ideal on how "pretty" someone is by their attitude. I don't care if someone is pretty they don't get special treatment from me especially if they the kind of person that should eat makeup and try to be pretty on the inside.

Don't get started on the "beauty varies" thing. He'll whip out his ruler.

Well, when I say pretty, I mean without the use of make up and things.

I am not referring to a tanned, blonde, big-boobed bimbo as pretty. If they had any sort of attractiveness, it would be labelled as hot because hot is more sixually-oriented. When I say pretty, I mean in a classical way. You know, pretty face, nice lips, good body structure, not a hoe.

It's not entirely appearance-based, when I use it in this context.

Ohhh, how about people who believe in aliens but not ghosts. I mean, we basically have the same amount of evidence for each right? Backwoods rednecks who are drunk 99% of the time claiming they saw it!

And atheists with chips on their shoulders....

Depends on whether we're talking about alien sightings and abductions vs. the possibility that somewhere in this massive universe there may be other life forms.

However, the probability of aliens existing is much greater. Ghosts are an entirely human concept. Aliens are a universal concept...if that makes sense.
