I think this game has the best archery gameplay ever.

I've seen people say that it only adds 50% of the base damage, so a bonus of 10 damage when using a Daedric Bow. If it would be 50% to the total it'd be worth it, otherwise no. Can anyone confirm?

I've actually heard this is how all the perks work. Like the ones for swrods too, and bleeding damage. They go off the base damage of the weapon.

Long shots are borderline impossible because the arrow visually dissapears after 50 feet, making it impossible for me to know where my arrows are landing. I've wasted 20 arrows on stationary dragons because the terrible draw distance makes it so that I can't see my trajectory.

Archery combined with sneak and smithing to get the most amount of damage in one shot is awesome.

I'm also in the Sneak Archer camp. While in stealth with an Enchanted bow, Daedric/Ebony arrows that are Poisoned, and a 100 Archery most things just get one-shotted. To make it more difficult for me, sometimes I choose a specific shot - like head or left arm or something not center-mass.

The Thief-series, Dark Messiah and Mount & Blade come to mind. Things being easier to hit doesn't mean "better mechanics". The Thief games in particular had your hands starting to shake if you kept the bow drawn for too long, and eventually you'd "un-draw"(my english fails me a bit here) the bow when you got tired enough.

I miss some of the little elements like that. Thief was a great game. Makes me wish for a blackjack and some water arrows. :P Still, Skyrim does a pretty darn good job overall in the archery department.

the one thing i would have liked to see is some location damage modifiers-i feel a bit ridiculous when i insta-kill a charging warrior with a foot shot

I do wish they kept the arrow physics of oblivion, and let you determine arrow drop, but the perks really make it viable without mods. I'm on Xbox so draw distance is usually shorter than arrow range. I actually remember liking red dead revolvers archery.

Ignore him. Dark Souls' archery isn't anything special. It's basically Fable's guns.
