Unofficial "Can My PC Run Skyrim?" Thread

Post » Wed Jul 20, 2011 6:40 pm

I don't have any experience with computer specs, so could anybody tell me what info is important and where I can get it? Or is the Dxdiag good enough?

Speccy. http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download is confusing as they have a link asking for donations and then the free download links below that half the people don't see.

I think you should be fine @ 1080p at a "good high level settings", maybe not "Max", but looking good. Skyrim is only DX9 after all and http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/174?vs=162. I'd worry more about the CPU not pushing the GPU properly if Skyrim doesn't make good use of more than two cores.

AH awesome, since it's a modern game the odds are to my favour for multi-core optimization. Then again there have been a few recent releases that ignore it soooo.....

ASUS G73J-H
Intel i7 - 720QM
ATI Mobility 5870M; 1GB RAM
8GB RAM
80GB SSD/500GB HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium
4X Blu-Ray/DVD combo

I know I'll be able to run Skryim easy, but I want to be able to run it on the highest settings at 1920x1080 with mods. Do you guys think this laptop will cut it, or do I need to start saving up for a desktop build? BTW, I can run Crysis 2 on Extreme at about 28FPS, but that game was incredibly optimized.

I think you're trying to show me your shopping cart, which I can't see, go to the laptops specific page before you clicked 'add to cart.'

There are many graphics cards of the 5800 series, would you please state which one.

All three of them will run it, to different levels of proficiency, from the basic HD 5830 to the middle of its class HD 5850, and then to the top of class HD 5870 (the X2 was a "59"-something, as I think I recall). We won't be able to say "how well" your PC will probably do until you are more specific.

witch one is better gt320 or 9800gt?

It ought to be the old 9800 GT. I don't think that the GPU Review has anything to do a side by side comparison for any "20s" other than the 220 and 520, but I'll look there anyway and re-edit if it's yes.

I was right, both times, no such "320 at GPU Review.

Here's the Gt 520 compared to a 9800 GT:

With the 5830 in mind then, I speculate you will be able to run it on max settings.

I'd say mid-high settings. Your CPU is the same as mine :foodndrink: which is pretty good, your RAM is more than enough, the gt 540m isn't too great though but certainly liveable.

I believe it's a ATI radeon HD 5850. But if it can run it on max, that would be great!

Alienware = EXPENSIVE without any good justification.

My advice is to avoid it like the pest.
