Unofficial Patch 1.2 Thread #6

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 5:58 pm

Note: I have not started a new game after latest patch, I'm still playing the same character since release

Problems:

1. Memory leak - I get CTD approximately every 2 hours

2. Dragon behavior - sometimes stuck in mid air or backwards flying and sometimes won't even attack unless other NPCs are in the area

3. Bookshelves - stored books disappear and can't be retrieved

4. "Ring of Recuperation" - in active effects list shows as "Necklace of Recuperation"

I play a Breton to gain the MR. Since I play a melee adventurer type, having an inherent MR is useful for those pesky caster types until I can close and then decapitate 'em! Last night I was checking on active effects and noticed that my racial ability was only 15%!?!

On character creation, it stated 50%...not 15%. I thought, meh, I was just incorrect in my recollection. So I looked it up on wiki. Nope, it was indeed 50%, but wiki says it is supposed to be 25%. The 50% is actually a mistake. Okay...I think it should be 50%, that is what it said-and the reason I play the race-but even 25% would be better than the lousy 15%. No wonder I was getting nuked by mages! I wear armor to protect against melee damage, so even when fighting multiple enemies, I can take a hit and keep on going. But when I fight any type of magic-wielder, they take HUGE chunks of my health. Out of proportion with my other fights, especially since I, racially, should have at least some damage mitigation there.

So, is this just an error with coding or an error in ALL literature associated with this game? Or what?

I did an impromptu test of this once I realized this, next caster I came across: a random necro out at an altar. He stood there firing bolts at me. I am L51 w/ Destro at 39 or so, and no points in it. I have Mara(+15% MR) and racial(+15%). I had to drink 4 health pots during the fight@200hp) and ended fight by finally just pulling out bow and using him as a target-dummy. I wasn't appreciably damaging him, granted I could use more skill and perks in Destro, but it was like I was not doing anything really. BTW he was a Nord(blond at least) and he wasn't much of a Necro, just had a straight 50% regen robe. I couldnt match his output in a straight duel, but then I am not a caster....but my magic resist should do something. Right? Just wondering.....

I'm still getting frame rate issues from lighting effects (torches, fire pits etc) while in dungeons and indoors.

Since Patch 1.2 the game is completely un-playable for me. Massive lags (drop from a steady 40 FPS to under 5 FPS never to recover) and the weird dragon issues. They fly backwords, get stuck, don't die. I sure hope Beth gets this fixed right away. As of now, my computer has the equivalent of a $60 paperweight on it's hard drive.

Needless to say I will be playing in offline mode from now on once they get this disaster of a patch ironed out. No more automatic updates through steam for me.

It is 25%. I have a breton character with 25% MR (Racial) + 30% (Alteration) + 25% (Lord Stone).

I got the problem on treasure map and another :

When I fast travelled to the tower where we encounter the first dragon (near whiterun), there is the black horse standing on the road next to the tower.
This is the horse of whiterun stables (that I don't buy). I can pass through him without collision but I can shot him with a bow and he take damages that makes a bounty to whiterun.

I got Vanilla 1.2 version

Bugs I've encountered thus far since updating to 1.2 that were not in 1.1:

-Cannot pick up lanterns or mine ore. Ore veins and lanterns have basically become unselectable items.

-Arrows keys no longer allow me to navigate menus. So much for interface "improvements".

Seriously, did you guys do any QA before releasing this patch? Or did your developers check in code at 11:45PM Sunday night and release the patch 15 minutes later?

hey guys do you guys everythink it a process issue if you dont have a desent processer you have crashes too and the game will be buggy so it may not be the patch or the ram the processer has to have the power to process everything if your processer cant process the game then you will have CTD and more issues as well

I'm sure it's been mentioned here somewhere, but the 1.2 patch did NOT fix the remapping key problems I experienced before.

I STILL can't drop items properly after remapping (UI says use R to drop, when I have to use T key to actually do it; also noticed Drop key was taken out of control assignment completely). I cannot favorite an item or spell with the key I have assigned it to. So I am STILL forced to revert back to default.

Please fix these UI errors for next patch: reassigned keys not working as expected & UI display not correctly showing the changes made to default keys.

I get shaded texture flickering whenever I move on objects that are about 30 to 50 ft away. It's kind of like the flickering of the blocky shadows, but its on the underside shadowy texture of objects like rocks bridges and buildings. Never had this issue before 1.2. It's almost like the shadow map radius has been decreased or the game cant tell which way I'm pointing so its constant rerendering things In FRONT of me.

Almost forgot, it's also happening on distant Mountains, which just looks so bad it's depressing.

I thought it would be a good idea to have one easily searchable thread instead of having 100 threads made by people reporting the same bugs, especially for the UNconfirmed bugs that I'm seeing, so more people can keep a look out for them. I understand there's one-super-mega Patch 1.2 thread, but there's no bug list in that thread -- it's all scattered across the relatively huge thread that's a pain to search through. People need to know this information to judge whether or not they should update, and unofficial fixes if they've already updated.

Note: For all bugs, even confirmed and "not a bug", it can be beneficial to the developers to post your experiences in either this thread or the Unofficial Patch 1.2 Thread (found here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1300359-unofficial-patch-12-thread-6/). Just don't make a new thread unless it's a totally new bug.

Confirmed -- Either through extensive testing or from independent confirmation from a bunch of sources.

Unconfirmed -- Conflicting reports, etc.

Not A Bug -- Not really the fault of the 1.2 Patch.

Confirmed
  • Elemental and Magical Resistances no longer work. The SKSE plugin has an unofficial, unsupported fix for this. You can find SKSE here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1302434-wipz-skyrim-script-extender-skse/ , and a method of testing here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1299511-testing-dragons-and-elemental-resistances-for-pc-users-on-patch-12-need-unpatched-people/

  • Bookcases can forever eat books, especially ones in your home. (Not yet confirmed if this only happens with existing bookcases.)

  • Dragons can start flying backwards and generally be unkillable in this state. It seems to occur only with dragons that are scripted to spawn (quest dragons), as self-spawned dragons don't do this.

  • Treasure Chests (from Treasure Maps) are no longer spawning in existing games, and/or have vanished. Note that some chests don't spawn until you get the associated treasure map!

  • Multiple problems with controllers and keymaps. There's an unofficial, unsupported quickfix by replacing controlmap.txt here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1298537-having-trouble-with-your-360-gamepadfix/page__st__20__p__19561742#entry19561742

Unconfirmed
  • Reports of textures being a lower resolution than in 1.1 on the same settings.

Not A Bug
  • Disappearing main menu is almost always caused by third-party mods incompatible with Patch 1.2. Vals Smithing / Fletching Mod infamously causes this in Patch 1.2. It's a good idea to always disable all mods if you have trouble with a new patch, just so you can see if that causes it. There's an updated version of Vals Smithing / Fletching Mod on Skyrim Nexus that may have a fix. Remember, we don't have the CK yet, so some of mod-making has to be guesswork.

*sigh*
Are we still having to post everything about the patch in "one" topic (which isn't really one topic anyway as it's constantly split until multiple topics because of the rather ridiculous "post limit")?

Anyway, still playing with 1.11 at the moment. Is it next week the PC eta is?

CCNA, what are your thoughts on the first paragraph of generalnmx's post? If it can't be a seperate thread, could you update your OP? Thanks!

Following this patch, the in-game incidental / background music stutters all the time. Worked fine in the earlier versions. Now I can only play the game with the background music turned off, which spoils the atmosphere. Your "audio fix" in the patch notes seems to have broken something else. Tried altering PC hardware sound settings but nothing had any effect.

Updated the game to 1.2 through Steam okay. I authenticated the files with Steam and no problems.

Major problem in that some dragons are not giving up their souls once I kill them. Last night I killed 4 dragons and 2 of them didn't give me their soul and their body didn't dissolve into a skeleton. One was an Elder dragon and the other was a blood dragon. The other dragons that gave me their souls were a normal dragon and a named dragon.

My report on patch 1.2.

I'm running the game windowed with Win XP pro 32 bit, with a ATI Radeon 4870X2 HD with drivers 10.9a.

Skyrim is 100% vanilla.

The good:

-The game loads fine, and all my saves work.

-Menus seem to be a bit more responsive, and 'cleaner' looking.

-No CTDs during an extended period of playtime, and they game seems a bit more stable.

- Looking with the mouse is far quicker and seems to respond better.

The bad:

-Fought four dragons, two of then were normal, but the other two were flying backwards, and acting strange. The backwards dragons did not give me souls.

-The frame rate seems a bit more 'choppy' when outside, and it's either raining or snowing. It's choppier than pre-patch.

- The bookshelf in my house is eating all of my books. >_<

So far I've not had that much trouble with the patch.

I was worried but I'm happy to report that with pure vanilla Skyrim the patch is not that bad.

However...

My one, and single, huge issue is the magic resistance bug. This is really bad. Magic is doing way to much damage, and all of my resistances are not working.

Getting into a fight with a mage is nasty now. o_O

PROBLEM: NO battle music plays (even when fighting dragons)?!

I am facing the EXACT SAME problem as these players (link below).

NO battle music plays at all (even when fighting dragons). PEACEFUL music play in the background in the HEAT of Combat!

I googled it and found some players having these same problems:

I was doing the quest for some NPC in Solitude, and when I entered some cave, I inmediately noticed that http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/614970002263912019/04C7A296404930BCB037544A011B01616D629FBC/ were horribly low-res, http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/614970002263916737/259E38B7DEDA8B6E1B3CCF99C63E323E204B6E33/.

Of course, I've Skyrim set at max settings, 16x AF, no AA, no .ini tweaks. I've even reset the graphics settings, which didn't fix the issue.

Hmm, is your PC OK with other games and also with doing other stuff? This sounds like such an extreme case of resets that's why I ask, as I wonder if there could be a hardware issue?

No I don't think it's my processor that's the problem. Phenom II X6 1100t which overclocked self on installation to about 4GHz, 1000W PSU, ATI 6950 2Gb (flashed to a 6970), 8Gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM, Asus Crosshair IV Formula Mobo - my hardware is sound. But if I play Skyrim without the 4gb exe I CTD regularly.

After 1.2, I did finally hit the dragons flying backwards deal.

HOWEVER, they did not start flying backwards until after I finished the main story line. On the way to last 2-3 missions, I killed ~7 dragons. Killed ~10 since 1.2 but before the last 2-3 missions. No issues were present. After the end story line mission, all dragons got a bad case of the dumb.

I wonder if Alduin was the dragon's hive mind. Without the hive leader, the dragons reverted to their original state as the butt of every Nord joke/pun/story.

Hmm..interesting.

I personally have not need any super 'low rez' textures sense the patch.

Not saying it isn't happening to other people, and perhaps my monitor is small or something, but so far I've noticed no degrade in texture quality from 1.2.

Could windowed mode have something to do with it? Has anyone with lots of CTDs and other issues tried the game windowed?

I personally find that mode very stable.
