Unofficial Patch 1.2 Thread #6

Post » Fri May 25, 2012 1:31 am

I thought I would compile a short list of bugs I've encountered on 1.2 Skyrim Patch. With an descending order of severity.
-Character model bug
My character's skin (with and without armor) has disappeared to a 'ghost like' state except for a floating beard / eyes. My weapons are fine but anything under 'apparel / armor' is also effected by this bug.
-Armor / Resistances
To put context - my character is a 100/100/100 alchemy/enchanting/smithing god. Both my armor rating / weapon damage with pot exceed 1500, magic resistance base of over 100% and poison resistance of 50% via alchemy perk. Prior to patch I could only really receive decent damage from Ancient dragons, Drauyr Death Overlords etc, I could tank 2-3 giants and as many mammoths at the same time quite easily. Since patch I get killed by basic mobs with the above listed gear (so for people without this level of gear I honestly give the greatest sympathy).
-Dragon flight path animations
Enough has been said on this - but Skyrim's big selling point was what? Dragons - So breaking them on this scale is quite honestly astonishing. Whomever is charge of bug testing control needs to have disciplinary action taken against them or if the work environment is of a level of stress that exceeds liability, they need to have their work environment changed. This is just bad press.
-Water disappearance
Large sections of water have disappeared.

I'd like to clarify that my game is run on a Quad core amd 3.2, 8 Gig RAM (though I'm aware Skyrim does not make full use of this), High end Nvidia card etc...

Who else has had some of these experiences? :verymad:

4th CTD already. Prior to this patch I have had a grand total of ONE CTD in close to 100 hours of gaming

Here is a shield graphics bug with Aela during her idle position when she crosses both her arms. Stead of hiding the shield it shows up in front of her with major clipping,

I would say an even bigger selling point of Skyrim was the freedom to roam and explore as you wanted, unlike Oblivion... however when actually doing so breaks tons of quests.. its kinda not really a "feature" you want to use..

That ghost-skin one sounds hillarious.. had several of these like the damage issues, the dragon flights and that they wont land/engage in fight.. had water disappear AND rivers flowing in reverse.. basically the texture is frozen and it moves backwards..hilarious..and lots of other bugs..

I'm running on a Sandy Bridge Core i7 with 24GB of RAM but it does not matter since the game is not capable of using more than 2GB of memory without a "fix".. what it really SHOULD have had is a 64bit version...

While I had several problems with previous saves, once I made a new save and reloaded, everything was fine as far as graphics and gameplay - just one enduring problem: resistances. That's it, just one problem but it's a killer; totally changes the game.

Uuuh what? I did EXACTLY that in Oblivion as well...? I explored the ENTIRE map before I even started the Main Quest and had ZERO problems. I for my main quest I was able to fast travel everywhere because I'd already found everything. Did you PLAY Oblivion?

As far as bugs:
I still get the CTD when fast traveling. LAA Launcher fixes that.

Bookshelves... if you put more than the allowed number of books on the shelf it gives a dialog box stating that you exceeded the number of books allowed and when you tab out of the menu, all the books you've already put on there don't show up. Clicking the shelf does nothing, you can't even get into the bookshelf menu.

A similar issue with the bookshelf... let's say you count the books you put on there and don't get the dialog for exceeding the number of books allowed on the shelf. You tab out and see all your books fall onto the shelf... you can TAKE a book from that shelf, put it into your inventory, but you won't be able to add any books back to that shelf. It is like above, you can click the shelf but won't get the shelf container menu.

There's a book quest the librarian of the Mages College gives you. On my first character (warrior) I have the bug with finding The Wild Elves book before he gives you the quest, you can't give him the book even though you already have it. BUT, I also have the same issue with another book that I'd found on another character I recently created. The book is called Remanadan or something like that. As soon as I picked it up, I saw it was a quest item and I was hoping that it wasn't one of the books for that guy's book quest... sure as hell when I went to the mages college for the first time with that character, that was the first book he had me look for... I had it in my inventory, but could not give it to him. NEEDS TO GET FIXED.

Bethesda needs to start putting up a database of broken quests so that players can read through it and avoid the hassle of filling their inventory with crap they can't drop... :(((

In addition to the arrow keys not working in inventory now, as reported by many people, now TAB does not take me out of inventory. I have to use ESC. Mouse has become a lot more sensitive and jittery. Sound is still way out of sync, voices don't sync with lip movements. I don't know what to do about settings, I'm just on default. I have a feeling I could improve them. Look sensitivity I set to min but it's way too hectic still. Top of the line Alienware rig.

Just a minor bug: after I have downloaded 1.2 patch my game freezes at startup. Is it really necessary to overwrite skyrimprefs.ini with every major update?

I still can not pick up a book with keybinds at anything but default. I thought keybinds were being addressed? Still have bugged quests and many of the other things everyone is talking about. Is everyone having the book and keybind issue?

Also, my arrow keys don't work any more. I am also experiencing the water and character glitches, along with dragon and resistance issues. I know it doesn't make the game unplayable exactly, but with the way my character is setup(cloth only mage and I pretty much rely on my resistances and summons) the game is pretty much unplayable for me.

Well my bookshelves are broken. If I take a book off of them they completely lock up and I cannot remove anything from then, put anything else onto them, or read the books already on the shelf. Haven't noticed a great improvement in the mouse either, oh and Luis Letrush is cemented up to his waist in the road outside of Whiterun. On the good side haven't run into CTDs on fast travel, going from location to location, near Riften. Further I haven't had any problems with elemental resistances or armor losing its armor value. Haven't fought any dragons so I can't comment on that possible issue and my chests have yet to eat my items. Oh, and before anyone asks this is with all mods unchecked, regenerated ini files etc.

I played over 80 hours with mods and only ONE CRASH.. ran very well high FPS and what not, was very impressed.

Then the update came out.. and now I crash nearly every time I fast travel.. and if not then within 10mins it will crash.

What if I am using the 360 controller? Is the fix done the same way?
I'm not sure though since I don't use a 360 controller and I even disable the 360 controller in-game just to see if my mouse was going to behave a little normal so to speak. The 1.2 patch would probably fix the key remapping issue that exists in the 1.1 patch, so what have you to lose. :)

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but with no mods, suddenly since the update I had 3 living soldiers on my shoulders that were standing on me whatever I did. They eventually disappeared after wandering for a bit, but apparently I was still holding over 600 (weight) worth of items that I hadn't collected. I was around 300 originally, but am now over 900 after the patch. The odd items that I found in my inventory were many many full plants, 5 live slaughterfish, and other things, but apparently these didn't have a weight to them. I cleaned out EVERYTHING from my inventory that I was allowed to and was still somehow 200 over my 300 weight budget! I don't know how to fix this! :swear:

If the dev's want something else to fix that was not addressed by the 1.2 patch - his name is Louis Letrush. Just search him out on these forums. Like http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1299280-louis-letrush-bug/ and http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1291941-louis-letrush-hostile/

Plus there is a ton of bugs being reported https://unofficialskyrimpatch.16bugs.com/projects/7078/bugs.

Like why do companions and my horse detect if I'm sneaking? Of what value is that to my character not knowing if the person I'm sneaking up on is detecting me or of it is my companion/horse that spotted me again.

After about 4-6 hours of play the only bugs I can say that I've seen are the lost resistance bugs and the wonky dragon behavior. The only other issue of note that I've had is that the Y-axis for the mouse seems more sensitive than the X-axis post patch 1.2. This is without any mods or ini edits (outside of edits made via the menus) made to the game. I'll include a DirectX diagnostic log, and can make available any other relevant information upon request.

Dragon behavior is not consistently broken. The dragon behavior seems to be inherent to individual dragons, and afflicted dragons consistently act oddly even after a exiting to the desktop and relauching the game. This would lead me to believe that it's possibly some variable used when the dragon is spawned into the world that is at fault. I have a save game directly at such a dragon if it would be of help.

Edit: Works now, possibly a botched driver update that didn't report anything wrong. Laptop video driver updates ftw.

I don't know if it's covered already but I got the Agent of Mara buff and it apparently is tied to my character but doesn't actually show up in the UI.

My issues..

I seem to be having the magic resistance bug, as I am taking much higher damage from spells than I used to, I cant seem to find where my resistances are listed so I dont know for sure, but I have found myself lowering the difficulty from Adept to Novice in situations where I did not used to have any trouble at all.

Bookshelves are bugged. When I try to put too many books in I can no longer activate the bookshelf.

When I try to add weapons to display cases and weapon racks they just drop to the floor instead of going into their proper places.

Mouse sensitivity on the vertical axis is now higher than horizontal instead of the other way around, but really, they should be the same.

I have been having the CTD on fast travel issues, but that is temporarily fixed by the Skyrim 4GB mod from the nexus.

Just look on the magic menu in the active effects for resist magic I think.

Sorry if I repeat somebody's words

I have very strong issues after installing the Patch v1.2.:

1. Local / global map screen: 1.1. 'Tab' key doesn't exit; 1.2. 'Left-mouse-click' now exits from this screen instead of setting a player's marker or perform a quick move to known location (it mean that I cannot teleport to known locations and it is really trouble!!! the next patch will downgrade my skyrim game to morrowind!)

2. 'Favorite' menu ('Q' key): 'Left-mouse-click' now exits the menu instead of binding an item or a spell to the right hand ('Right-mouse-click' works normally). And for battle mage it is great trouble.

3. 'Reading a book' screen: 'Tab' key doesnt close the book now and there is no way to close it at all.. the only solve is to push 'E' and to take the book, but if it is somebody's book - that means you have to steal it.

4. In the screen of looting chests / bags / corpses etc: 'R' key ('Take all' option) - doest work now.

And the most ugly bug that I have: this patch is installing automatically even if I disable autoupdate in game settings in steam.
Please somebody tell me how to avoid installation of this patch or how to uninstall it, becouse I didnt have any problems before it and now I just cant play the game=(

-----------------------------------

I have:
software: PC 'Jewel DVD' version of the game, Russian localisation. OS: Windows 7 Home 64bit;
hardware: Sony Vaio notebook, Intel i5 CPU, 4Gb Ram, ATI mobility Radeon 5650

Game works well on ultra grafics settings and 1920x1200 resolution

I didnt have any of those issues before installation of this patch

Might be a new bug, but, I cannot fast travel anymore. I click on a destination, and, it returns from map mode to normal first person.

Edit. ... can no longer tab out of reading books, i have to take / steal them now.

Okay, I got asked to put this here, so here goes.

Since the patch yesterday: I cannot scroll through lists. At all. Nada. I have not remapped any keys. I use no mods. I've tried arrow keys. YES, I've tried WASD, etc. I can't scroll on inventory, powers; not even the game settings or controls. Restarting the game did nada. Restarting steam did nothing. Shutting down and restarting my computer---no joy. For me, this pretty much makes the game unplayable because there are just too many things I can't use or do. So, I finally rolled back to pre-patch, which is something I've never done with a game before and hope not to have to do again. Reloaded a game save from pre-patch, and it now works fine. Hoping a new patch comes out very soon...

First of all sorry for my poor english, I live in Italy.
I have found a bug with Lydia in Whiterun: before the 1.2 patch she could carry a lot (armor and many things); now (1.2) also a complete set of dwarven armor is too heavy for her and she can't wear it!

These are some of the glitches I have experienced and didn't find here:

- Some NPCs re-spawn in the destination instead of using regular paths.

One example may be when you are at the inn, speaking with some NPC. Behind you notice another NPC gets up to do something, but instead of walking there, he or she disappears and reappears some place farther away to do some action, like sitting at a table or eating.
Another example. In the companion hall barracks, where the companions sleep, sometimes when they go to sleep they disappear and reappear directly in front of their beds to go to sleep. This happens if I am blocking the way or some NPC is in the way.

I see these NPC spawning bugs quite often now. "Snap Finger" syndrome?

- The 1.2 patch fixed the mammoths that sometimes spawned in mid air, then fall and die. Now, when hunting in the tundra wilderness, sometimes a deer spawns in front of me. Other times more then one spawn at the same place and die there. Other times I just hear them die next to me and I look around just to see this new dead body appearing out of nowhere.

- I never saw a dragon actually flying backwards. However there was this one time where I detected some odd flight. Dragon goes on attacking in the air normally. Except when I moved towards it, it distanced itself - like if there was this invisible stick between my character and the dragon, each time I moved forwards, the dragon went farther away. Then it flew up with an out-of-sync animation and landed. Then, with the strange behavior, it made some take offs and sudden flights unrealistically fast.

Well my bookshelves are broken. If I take a book off of them they completely lock up and I cannot remove anything from then, put anything else onto them, or read the books already on the shelf.
You can remove books placed with the auto-book placer? I think to take them out you had to use the auto-book placer, like activating the bookshelf first and then take it out.

can no longer tab out of reading books, i have to take / steal them now.
That was a fix for the PC version - to use Escape key instead of Tab :ermm: It broke consistency, as in we were starting to get used to the interface when some people complained about it and the patch changed the keyboard bindings.

- I am also noticing that the menus do not respond as earlier. The way it worked before, I could use the mouse wheel to scroll the menus. Now the mouse wheel does not make the menu scroll some times.

- Another issue with the controls is that using WASD in third person view makes the animations switch too fast instead of blending in a smooth transition.

- I met a hunter once and tried selling a kind of meat that she had in her inventory. When I tried selling it I bought her meat instead. But her meat didnt disappear from her inventory. If I sold her my other stuff like furs it didnt appear on her inventory. Plus her gold didn't change at all.

- Some leveled lists could use fine tuning because once I got three tiger eye loot from a (seemingly two-eyed) tiger.

Has anyone experienced this following 1.2?

When I save-either quicksave or through the menu I get a crash to desktop with no error message.

1st time it happened was in Whiterun at night, multiple ctd's. I went into my house, waited until daytime and exited, then could save without problems.

I restarted my PC which seemed to fix the problem, could then save in Whiterun, day or night.

2nd time was in the Tundra outside Whiterun, this time ctd as soon as I hit the quicksave, this time during the daytime.

I'm sure it wasn't a problem before 1.2.

The only other thing I've noticed is that when I loaded up after the restart it detected my video settings again.

Is it worth trying a rollback using the fix from Nexus?

The A button on my 360 gamepad no longer words after the 1.2 patch on PC

It works in game (ie. I use it to jump) but when I go into the menus....nothing. Can click on something to fast travel to, but can't hit A to go there, or cancel; just get stuck on the black box. Can't go to any of the options menus, can't select anything to save or load.

Essentially, with gamepad, the game is entirely broken now for me. I'm not running any mods outside of some texture replacement.

Game seems to be okay with mouse/keyboard, but I don't want to play with M/K......has anyone else seen a fix for this yet? Help?

I'm not sure if this has been reported elsewhere; My hands are too full to check, apologies in advance.

Sure, I have all the aforementioned resistance problems and such, but I'd like to bring a major thing to attention, in hopes it'll be fixed in the next patch.

Pre 1.2 I was able to tab out of conversations and inventories. Tab is an accessible, comfortable key. Even if I wasn't able to tab out pre 1.2, it was probably due to shift tabbing. Pressing shift once let me tab out of conversations etc normally.
Post 1.2 tab does nothing. Here's why; I wasn't pleased with the character menu, as it's not necessary on the PC, using mouse and keyboard. Pre 1.2 I bound the character menu to 'I' and the quick inventory to 'tab'.

Makes sense to me:
TAB = Quick inventory.
C = Character screen.
B = Spellbook.
M = Map.

Now, however, despite the game stating that tab will still exit me out of conversations and inventories etc, as it did with these settings pre-patch, the game now looks not for the use of the tab key, but for the use of the character menu key, in my case 'I'.
I know that Bethesda are hard at work trying to fix all of this, but I'd certainly appreciate it if they'd revise the keybindings. The game just needs to use the tab key as a cancel button unconditionally, not the character menu function. A lot of people don't want to use it, as it's not necessary.

I've been fine with the controls pre 1.2, so it'd be nice if Bethesda could look over this issue briefly and get it all comfortable for PC gamers, again.

The only new bugs I found in v1.2 were the lack of Elemental / Magic Resists, and my bookshelves in Riften ate my books when I tried to place them. Dragons worked fine, Fast Travel worked fine, Lockpicking was fine, etc.

Same here, that is to say when I encountered those issues I stopped playing.

there should be an option on steam to roll back to stock just in case something like this happens (ie. gamebreaking)

now what can i do, pirate the game just so i can play it normally?

I had this exact same problem until I updated the SOUND driver... I've played about six hours including ending the main quest, with NO crashes at all, but I did see a backward-flying dragon. I've been too occupied with battles and quests to do "housekeeping" such as putting books away. FXAA Post-Process Injector Option #2 is running, enhanced distant scenery and "No More Blocky Faces" with beauty mods. It's running High and very High, which is a sluggish dog without FXAA PPI.

Intel Q9450, Crossfire HD4850. CPU and GPU overclocked and water-cooled, 8 Gigs Ram.

My magic resists have been fine. In fact, I actually feel like I'm more resistant to dragons if that's possible.

However, the game is currently unplayable for me. I recently installed a bunch of mods for the first time, so I'll try removing those and see if it fixes anything.

My current problem is this: I fast-travel to Riften stables to give a moon amulet to one of the wandering Khajiit. Shortly after I arrive, an elder dragon shows up. Mid-way through this fight, I got a CTD (I did notice the dragon turning at very strange angles and such, but never saw it move backwards).

I didn't think it was a big deal at first. I probably averaged 2 crashes an hour since about 20 hours into my game pre-1.2, so a crash didn't seem like anything unusual (I'm at 80 hours or so now).

I immediately reloaded the game and this time it was a standard dragon instead of an Elder. However, just as I was about to finish it off...CTD.

So I went back a third time. CTD right as I struck the killing blow.

I've uninstalled some, but not all of my mods (doing so now). I would guess the issue is tied to dragons (I had already fast-travelled since this patch and gotten into fights against bandits), so I know it's either something about Riften or dragons that's causing this problem.

[Edit]: Uninstalled all mods and tried again. It was an Elder Dragon again and right as I struck the killing blow, I got CTD again. So it's directly related to dragons dying.
