Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread #53 w hard

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 11:23 pm

Oh, it is? Was under the impression that the bigger the screen, the more powerful the GPU had to be. But now that I think about it, if it's the same resolution then why would that be? Hah.

Yeah, you'll only need more vram/a more powerful gpu if you wanted to run at a higher resolution, like with a multi-monitor setup or a gigantic screen.

First one, high
Second, max

Thanks, good to know. Was worried about not finishing that new rig before Friday, but now I feel fine with starting Skyrim on my current rig and transferring saves over when my new one is finished being built. Good to know, thanks again for your reply.

*edit* As a side note, can the first one get a good FPS on high, and the second a good FPS on max? Or can it do those settings but not run well? If that makes sense.

I'd guess the first one would get around 30FPS on high, and the second one 70-90 fps on max.

Hi there

How is my laptop going to hold up? I merely want to play with a decent frame rate.

Intel Core i7 Q720 @1.60Hz
Windows 7 64-bit
4.00GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 230M GT
on a 1920x1080 display.

Thanks!

You're most likely going to achieve a decent frame rate running at medium settings.

That was fast! What's holding me back the most?

Your GPU, its a low end laptop gpu and has problems reaching a good framerate on high in most games.

If I can run bf3 on ultra with at least 60fps, is it safe to assume max wont be a problem?

Lol yeah, Skyrim max won't be nearly as taxing as BF3 max

I would assume so, but keep in mind those are totally different games with totally different engines.

But if you can play Battlefield 3 on Ultra settings with 60FPS, you will do fine! :tops:

You guys reckon I can get max with the PC I'm hopefully building on Saturday?

Motherboard: AsRockZ68 Pro3

Processor: Intel i5-2500K

Memory: 8G 2133 G.Skill Ripjaws-X

HDD: Western Digital Black 1TB

VGA Card: Gigabyte 6870

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 64

@1920x1080

if not at that resolution, what would you suggest to be the highest resolution I could max out at?

You can't upgrade a laptop with anything but another laptop gpu, and if your graphics are built in, chances are theres no room on your motherboard for a dedicated gpu. If you CAN upgrade your gpu, its a fairly difficult process that involves basically taking apart the entire laptop. Are you sure you want to do that?

I can do that easily as most of my friends are working right now in IT and other computer related stuff, most of them busy but i guess i could bug one enough to come over and help :P I'll research my laptop on the google when finally get it and then see if i can upgrade the stuff on it as there will most likely be a couple of peopple trying to do the same thing and stuff like that, thanks anyway ;)

Will be buying a custom built computer I just want to run skyrim on this mac for the meantime. Also, if i use it on the mac will i be able to use it on a diff computer? (Like EA pass... one account only kind of thing).

Well for one you have to run Windows 7 bootcamp on the mac, and after that it should be good for medium settings. You can install&play the game anywhere as long as you login and do it through steam. Once you activate it, its tied to that steam account.

Windows XP Professional x64
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core +4600 @ 2.4 ghz
2GB RAM
Radeon 4850 1GB

Monitor is native 1920x1080, but willing to run at lower res if necessary.

Most worried about RAM and processor. I don't expect to run much higher than low. I'm building a new PC soon but I'm wondering if Skyrim is worth getting at this point.

Thats a really low end kind of build. But look on the bright side you meet hte minimum reqs at least.. Maybe try to get windows 7 and a better graphics card, Possibly if you can most importantly CPU as well. But you probally could play it even on low. WOn;'t know till teh game is out.

At 1080p you may struggle to get a good framerate on anything higher than medium. Your CPU is fairly old, but going by the minimum requirements you should be okay.

i5-2500k
GTX 570
8GB G. Skill Ripjaws X
Windows 7 64 Bit
750w PSU

Can I max this at 1080p? (By max, I mean turn everything up, maybe not AA)

Yes, and the GTX 570 handles AA in general pretty well, so you should be fine with max AA too.
