Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread #53 w hard

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 12:54 am

okay so i should have mentioned this before but i didnt think it was a problem until now.
I have a laptop and i was talking with somebody in the other thread(52 i think), and i forgot to say that i have a laptop......so I'm just wondering whether i will HAVE to buy a LAPTOP SPECIFIC graphics card or can i just put it in anything?(pc/laptop) PLEASE answer quiick so i know whether or not to cancel this card i have bought
thanks in advance
-Dave :)
All of the suppliers stopped producing the type of laptop chassis that could be opened up, a couple of years ago. If you owned the old style desktop replacement laptop already, you would know what you owned. The current style is welded shut, and attempting to open it just destroys both the mainboard and the chassis.

Quad core, 2.8Ghz, 3 GB ram(cause of vista's limit, i actually have 4GBs installed), Nvidia GT 260

i've been told on another thread that i can probably play it between med-high settings, i was wondering though, what single component should i upgrade to get a boost so i can play it between high-ultra high settings?

The GPU? Change my OS to win7?

thank you in advance

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730
Win 7
Intel® Core™ i7 CPU
Q720 @1.60 GHz
8 GB of RAM
64 bit operating system

Little concerned about my 1.60 GHz and my graphics card...it is a laptop. Id Skyrim supports multi-threading on multiple cores should I be able to go higher, It is a quad core with 8 threads? Don't know if that makes any difference.

I think I will be at about medium settings. Not sure, It can handle The Witcher 2 with no noticeably problems on highest settings if that means anything. At this point should I just get it on my Xbox 360 though. I am quite torn.

Here is my current setup:

Operating System: Windows Vista? Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.110617-0336)
System Manufacturer: Gateway
System Model: DX4200-UB001A
Processor: AMD Phenom? 9550 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory: 5886MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Card name: ATI Radeon HD 3450
Dedicated Memory: 249 MB

With this in mind what do I need to do on a LOW budget to get things updated. Can I just swap out the graphics card, or is there something else that would make more bang for my buck.

Thank you!

Note:
I have a power supply of 300 watt

Hi, what do you think about the following - I suppose I can get to medium settings approximately?:

Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
GIGABYTE G31M-ES2L
2x2048 MB DDR2 400.0 MHz (PC2-6400)
Sapphire RADEON HD 3850 (512 MB GDDR3)

Windows 7 64bit
Playing @1280x1024

Thanks in advance.

So, it appears that I will not be able to buy a new computer soon after all (hoping for a miracle), but is it even worth upgrading this one or should I just forget it?
Here's what I've got so far, it will not be able to run Skyrim:

Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core 4000+ 2.1GHz
1GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2400 series

Windows XP SP3 Professional
And, since my monitor broke down as well, my resolution is 1024x768.

What advice you got for me. I want t run mine on the highest possible setting, smooth as silk. or at least ultra.

here is my current rig. I did an anolysis:

Operating system:
Windows Vista Ultimate (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 6001)

CPU:
3.15 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
6144 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (2 total)
Not hyper-threaded

motherboard:
Board: Intel Corporation DG41TY AAE47335-203
Bus Clock: 333 megahertz

RAM 4GB

Display:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275

as you can see, I have a fairly good PC, I think. what if I got windows 7, more ram, and a high end video card?
would a few upgrades make a difference? or would you recommended a full PC upgrade purchase?

would my CPU run it well without graphix problems and the Video card does all the graphics?
does the CPU effect graphics or just load time?

Yes, that's a nice build that will get you running high if not max settings on those games.

You're probably looking at medium to high settings on your current rig. If you got the upgrades you listed, you would probably get way better framerates and be able to push higher settings especially with AA on. And CPU affects both.

Instead of making a new topic I thought I would ask in here as I class it as the general hardware question thread. Does anybody currently know RAM usage and if Skyrim will benefit from the LAA 4GB patcher?

ION2 runs the game smoothly..... But there are a few problems I have run into(I am currently installing the patch atm so it could be fixed in that)

I'm not here complaining, I just wanted to point out that the ION2 runs the game on medium smoothly. ;D
Hopefully the patch fixes these.

How does this look?

CPU: Intel Core Duo E4600, 2.4 Ghz (Not overclocked, but I can do so if need be.)
RAM: 4GB
GPU: Nvidia GTX 280

Not sure what motherboard I have, although I do know that it is an Asus.

I've got an Intel core 2 duo e6400 at 2.13Ghz (can't overclock it). Graphics card is a hd5750. My cpu won't bottleneck the game to unplayable levels will it? Don't wanna buy pc version and end up having to buy again on console cos my pc cant run it. thanks!

^ both you guys shouldnt see problems since they are well above my specs. And the 280gt and hd5750 are still decent mid cards.

That IGP and CPU combination fall below any practical minimum, although I realize that the Official Minimum is meaningless.

On a practical basis, without any VRAM, that ION2 gets no official support, and no patch will make up for an Atom's major deficiencies.

P. S. Just while I was writing about the Atom and ION2, another gamer wanted to know how to make an HD 3450 work in the game -- that's a Radeon with similar very poor graphics performance, but can certainly have 512 MBs of VRAM, in spite of only being capable of actually using 128 MBs.

Yeah, I know but OCed and the ION2 is suprisingly powerful and under rated I am yet to find a game it cannot run. As I said the game runs smoothly, and those problems before were sorted out by the patch that I did not know about before running hence the edit. ;D

None the less runs fine.

You need a pretty low powered Graphics Card. Ideally one which doesn't need an additional power connector. The best current ten card you can get with no additional power requirement is a HD 6670. I picked one up for my cheap office PC for this exact reason - it's a cheap dell with a 300w power supply and runs it fine.

5670 is a pretty similar card but from the previous generation. There are DDR3 and GDDR5 versions. GDDR5 gives a reasonable improvement but will cost $10-20 more.

Quite doubtful, sorry. That's only an onboard chipset video chip, not a graphics card.

He could get away with low settings on that chipset, its a DX10 chipset and he has enough RAM to allocate some extra to the GPU. But, overall he has some low specs, like CPU making Min requirments. Overall, it seems doutful, but not just because of the GPU.
