Useless Junk Items List

Post » Mon Feb 14, 2011 6:16 am

Yeah, the gnomes are planning their take-over of the Mojave after all of the other factions have killed each other off. Some of them are armed and some of them are, well, not so armed.

And speaking of lists of useless things, here's another useless list for you Emma, if you're listening. What about the nearly empty locations in FONV, like Searchlight Airport? (this is not really a criticism - I love this game). But can you imagine you are on the development team and you are given the assignment to create a huge expansive airport location and decide to fill it up with . . . nothing. No building to enter, no people, only two chests to open, a coupla radscorpions to kill. Nothing. Could have at least put in an army of gnomes. . .

I'll start the list for you
Searchlight Airport
most underwater locations (beautifully done, but nothing there)

lol I do realise my list of Useless Junk is not something everyone may find of use but depending on your style of play I know there are people out there like me who want to know what they can sell on straight away. I take everything with me wherever I go. If there is junk that me and my Companions cannot carry in one visit, I'll go back. This is how I have maxed out my allowance of implants and still have well over 100,000 caps.

I quite agree though; why have locations that serve absolutely no purpose? Such excitement, revealing a new location on the map or equally as you say diving down (uh-hum) into the depths of a lake to find only... well, nothing. Kind of makes me with there was some kind of GTA-style collectable further to Snow Globes that could be dotted around for achievement hunters (yes, I'm one of them too). I would be totally up for hunting through the wastes for, say, the complete collection of pre-war superhero figurines or perhaps bone fragments from an extinct species. See, I should be on the design team... OK maybe not...

I was just having a bit of fun with you when I called your list a useless list. I was using the word "useless" as a noun and not as an adjective. I would have found your list very useful when I first started FONV. I started picking up everything thinking that I would be crafting all of the cool weapons and explosives that we were able to in FO3. But, nooo. Most of the stuff in FONV is, as you say, useless, and you can sell it for only a few farthings. I, too, have this insatiable urge to pick up everything, even when I have 106 caps.

What I still find curious in this game, and I've said this in other posts, is why you can't pick up other stuff, like the hula girls, the globes of the earth, telephones, coffee machines, to name a few. Yet you can pick up paperweights, burned books, sporks and other useless stuff (see list by Emma North). Hey, Emma, make a list of stuff we can't pick up, but wish we were able too. (I'm not making fun of you, I like you and your list).

No I was fairly sure you weren't making fun of me lol, but wouldn't mind if you were either. I'm not into senseless forum arguments!

I quite agree; it's clear that the game engine that made Fallout 3 was barely touched for NV. I have heard Fallout 4 will be using a completely new game engine which will be very welcome as far as I'm concerned. Not that I don't like the game but the tech that was so powerful 5+ years ago is less so now and the game series would benefit so much from a new look.

Very odd about telephones, etc. as you say. Like some stoves that have pots on top that you cannot touch. It would probably be better if they cleared a lot of the junk available when it is going to be useless. I mean, do we really need Tin Plates, Red Plates, Green Plates, etc. when they are all essentially the same thing? I think FO4 will address this (surely?!)

I made a few more updates.

- Put in Steam Guage Assembly, marked as an unrequired quest item as someone explained
- Added a couple more items that are just junk.

Also, just to clarify, I am still listing things of high value if they are only worth selling on for the caps ie: Pack of Cigarettes. I realise they are not "junk" as such because they have a decent value but they still serve no other purpose than to sell on. Hope that makes sense.

Where is the Sunset Sarsaparilla Deputy Badge? Is this definately not quest related and just to be sold? Is this true for BoS Holotags too?

A few of you mentioned Yeast but this is used in Cass' Moonshine.

Anything else?

SS Deputy Badge (276 of them) are found after doing the Legend of the Star/A Valuable Lesson Quest. No, you don't sell them, you keep them, unless you want to sell them. The value is very low. (1 cap I think). BoS Holotags are not worth much (1 cap also) so, just keep them in the collectibles locker that you may have. I have one, I keep 276 SSDBs in there, 18 BoS Holotags, two "Flour" items, and I think there is more, but I can't remember.

Rocket Souvineir is used in the Come Fly With Me quest as fuel. And its not a toy, it actually has radioactive liquid/fuel in it.
