Vampire lords and their position in lore

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 11:29 am

Am I the only one who thought the Vampire Lords looked like the worst thing in the Game Jam? o.o
I know the animations of it looked horrible in the Game jam and I guess is gonna get better, but just the Idea of it annoys me.
being evil enough to turn into a big Demon thing with little minions is a bit cliche, Isn't Vampirism just supposed to be a disease?
Yes it's a fantasy game but one of the things I liked about the Elder scrolls is that they kept the fantasy parts still quite realistic and gave explanations for it.

so are ancients and they were documented before the eternal champ seen 'em (the eternal champ was the hero of daggerfall, right?), juuuuuuust sayin' :teehee:

The Eternal Champion was the Hero of Arena.

The Hero of Daggerfall is only known as the Agent.

Well this was supposed to mainly be a discussion on vampire lords and they're position in game lore. I didn't want it to be the same as other discussions about vampire lords even though its about the same subject but...I guess I see now.
Well,, don't be discouraged. This may be a thread in an isolated track. Just keep posting and I am sure that a mod will do something, should he/she deem it necessary. That may never happen if others stay on track with your intent.

I don't understand all these people who continuously say things like "OMG BETHESDA IS GOING AGAINST THEIR OWN LORE WTF???"

It's THEIR lore, they can do whatever the hell they want to with it. If they want to go back and retcon it then they will.

So I have been reading alot on the dawnguard forums lately about people who are complaining about bethesda bringing in vampire lords because its not in the lore of the game. Now yes they are not mentioned in lore but aren't vampires mostly understood through folklore and legend?. If they were never precedented in history then this has to be their first appearance. Or maybe they somehow had this power the whole time and didnt know it until now and yet its unlocked through some unforeseen force or entity in the game. Yes we all know that ancient vampires did not have wings or the power to change into a lord and if they could why didnt they?

Besides as we all well know they're are many secrets in the world of Tamriel that still remain undiscovered to this present day. It doesn't mean that the world is not subject to a little change every now and then. In Tamriel just from what I understand; everything evolves. In every elderscrolls game each creature in-game has looked different depending on what province you are in (and yes I know just to add a new feel to each game). And I think now with the coming of the vampire lords in the next dlc we will be seeing the vampires evolving into a new breed of terror that will change our view about vampires as we know it in Skyrim and probably in all the elderscrolls game.

Please everyone tell me on what you think on this subject and comment below.

Cant wait for Vampire Lords!!!

Also I'm curious as to what powers we will be having as a vampire lord. I mean I can picture myself svcking the life out of something from a distance until they grow super old and eventually turn to dust. Or maybe summoning dark entities that give me health everytime they attack something. Damn...just thinking about this has made me even more hyped about the dlc!!

In the entire history of the Elder Scrolls, the games, the books, there has never been any mention or notion of Vampires having wings. Not until the Jam video. Through the various games which have taken place at various time periods we have encountered both young and ancient Vampires in-game. No wings. We have read books concerning Vampire lore in-game and out. NO WINGS!!! Vampires are undead corpses. They do not evolve. Vampires with wings are a RETCON, a much worse one than the "rain forest" in Oblivion. Some Vamp diseases even come with Levitation in the package so the argument for the need of wings is ultimately redundant, unless of course the argument is that "they look kewl". This is simply RETCON BS and Bethesda deserves the criticism they have been receiving.

There's no basis in lore for all this Vampire Lord crap, & it sounds like literally the worst thing, that anyone has ever considered putting into an Elder Scrolls game.

What if Bethesda went in and added vampire lords to their lore. Would that be okay with you?

Or do you just think that whatever they've already written should be the only lore ever and never be added to?

That just means they're Daedric servants of Sheogorath.

...makes sense :lmao:

The Eternal Champion was the Hero of Arena.

The Hero of Daggerfall is only known as the Agent.

thank you, all these heros get confusing sometimes

You must not understand the concept of history, history is written in present day so if bethesda adds them technically it would be part of the history of elder scrolls. Especially if it has story behind it. Plain and simple buddy.

Ok so they have never been heard of in elder scroll history. As I said, that most likely means that this is the first time they are appearing in all of Tamriel. Also we haven't explored all the provinces yet; maybe Valenwood has possible books on Vampire lords and such and just want to keep it hidden from the public or something like that.

I'ma just straight up say that any game developer who intends to listen to their fans by keeping the series as stagnate as possible will eventually flop.

For anyone actually upset over this: This is their game, and they're free to do what they will with it. They also have better foresight as to what is beneficial to their franchise than you ever will.

Fans are great until they start demanding that everything stay the same. They stop being fans and start being barriers.

I'm pretty sure having Vampire lords won't be so bad. As for lore, nothing wrong with bethesda adding more to vampirism. I'd say its a welcome change.

Very true with his logic the elder scrolls will literally never grow its lore.

I for one welcome vampire lords! Is it a bit of knock off of other vampire media? Yeah a little bit ,but what they do with this new idea, and how will they add it to the lore and actually make sure it fits well is what we should be watching. So let stop getting upset over this change and see how it turns out.

i dont think it matters whether vampire lords arnt in lore or not ... i mean Elder scrolls lore and history is told from beginning to end , because there is no end . so anything is possible . Bethesda has the ability to put in anything they want because they created Elder scrolls . so whether anyone likes it or not Vampire Lords are going to be apart of lore ............. thats if Bethesda decides to incorporate them into the next DLC

i like the flying Vampire Lords idea , thanks Bethesda

PS . just because there not mentioned doesnt mean they cant exist

As far as I'm concerned, following the lore went out the window when I read "Immortal Blood" then saw the Vampires in Skyrim.

Im with you on this. The utter lack of adaptability displayed on this thread over a game makes me wonder how some of these folks have survived this long in our ever changing world. Bethesda, if you want to write ferrari's into lore and put them in the game, go for it!

all vampires before in TES lore have been subtle (and, although i use the word loosely...), these new vampires shatter that and are only there to scream "i iz evul!! fear meh!!" and it is borderline inpossible to deny. we already have the vampiric badasses (ancient vampires) that could and should hold any positions these vampire lords may have.

while that is highly unlikely (why would any prince keep his pets locked up instead of letting them roam free and entertain him in mundas? it. makes. no. sense.) it is possible but it is still the stupidest idea i have ever heard anyone think up for TES

Only Cyrodiilic vamps are supposed to be subtle. Remember that.

Hm, A mutated strain of Vampirisim. Or it could be after a vampire has lived a certain amount of time. They could spin it off new or old, and do a good job of it, if they were careful.

This is the first I've heard of actual vampire lords though? Is this going to be in the new DLC?
