What did you do in Daggerfall today? (part VI)

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:56 pm

I took Forbidden Material: Silver so I can tell it apart from Elven and Chain... Does that have a factor as well for odds of getting silver?

I've played many, many games collecting armor like you seem to be doing but I've never noticed the odds of finding silver change, forbidden or not.

Silver shields and helmets are relatively common compared to other silver armor. I have played numerous games in which I've found all 4 shields and the 6 different types of helmets. Of the other 15 different pieces of silver armor the most I've ever found in one game is 4. (Orcish helmets are also very rare).

That will work for most armor and helmets (silver: +4, 2.5kg) but not shields. The only ways I know of to identify silver shields (without forbidding it) is by price, if you're in a store, or by enchantment capacity. (Which are also the only 2 ways to distinguish the 2 yellow mithral helmets from their adamantium counterparts).
Gah! I just realized that and came to correct myself :D

Killed a giant in some dungeon for the Fighter's Guild. This represents the first dungeon I've actually cleared out in Daggerfall! :D I feel so accomplished.

My dunmer longbladesman is currently thoroughly lost in Hawkton's Guard, where the Fighters Guild sent him to retrieve a strayed tiger. Took him forever to track down the kitty. Little did I know it would take him twenty forevers to find the exit...assuming he does. Well, there's no assuming. He has to. All my save slots are filled with Hawkton's Guard saves. There's no backing out.

I bought him RECALL at one point, but the game crashed soon afterwards. I forgot to rebuy. Not that it matters. He didn't have the mana to cast it, noob that he is. (I played the game to death back when it was new and shiny. But that was long long ago. I've grown rusty.)

ADDENDUM:
O the irony. I launched the game and found Hawkton's Guard exit within three minutes. Not that I'm complaining mind you.

For future reference: that splotch of yellow pixels on the map screen is a very small representation of the dungeon as a whole. The red dot is you, and the blue dot is the general location of the exit. That should help you narrow down the search next time :)

Yeah, my bad, forgot to mention I was referring to shields, And I went the forbidden route just for the convenience of maximizing lootspace while in a dungeon, since at a glance Elven and Silver shields look and weigh the same, and I only pick up Elven or better to sell...

Back in the game I'm suprised how Medorai's so patient with my return, the dust already been prepared over three months now and no telepathic nagging yet, me being busy doing daedric quests and all (Mehrunes Razor - check, Mace of Molag Bal - check, Masque of Clavicus Vile - check, Ring of Khajiit - check, Wabbajack - check, Sanguine Rose - check, Oghma Infinitum - check, Azura's Star - check, Spellbreaker - check)...

lol yeah took me about 4 or 5 goes of trying, failing, giving up.

today i realised i'm a wearboar. i had a strange dream and didn't think anything of it (whoops) and then went a bought my daedric dae-katana from the mages guild and saw i had boss stats but just thought it was because of my sixy new weapon (whoops). and now sometimes i feel the need to feed on an innocent or something. i looked it up and it seems i was supposed to get a letter so i could go on a quest to cure myself. oh well. i run and hit really fast now have increased strength. i'll live i hope.

I did just fine on my first try. I died a few times but I had saved my game so I wasn't afraid to experiment and get myself killed trying different things.

It's been so long a time that I can't really remember the details, but I don't think it took me more than one or two tries to get out of Privateer's Hold back in '96... once I figured out how to deal with that imp, that is. :P

IIRC it can take a whole month before you get offered a cure, for either the were-creature or vampire situations.

Now that I'm a vampire, courtesy of the residents of Direnni Tower, I've started courting the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild for membership, but oddly the latter seems to want no part of me, no matter how many hostiles I manhandle for pocket change(And a few graqes, leaves, twigs, bad poetry, receipts, lint, etc). The DB was a little more welcoming, but for some reason I'm starting to suspect that they're playing a sick game of wild goose chase and praying I get lost and never return, as they tell me the name of the dungeon where the accounting must take place, but not adding directions or even marking my map...

Got offered a cure yesterday and took it. Feel pretty slow now but at least I don't have to eat anyone anymore. Stole someone's soul for the king of worms and now I'm hunting a painting in castle wayrest.

Really really loving this game. I shudder to think how much more I'd love it if I was playing it when it was released.

Arglendreth!
Fells knights in one hit!
Vanquishes battlemages!
Is too awesome for loot!
Has more enchanted stuff than you!

...takes 3 minutes to defeat a door!

Oh, hey: when you are holding a two-handed weapon your left hand is still considered empty, so you can press 'S' to switch to your fists without unequipping anything.
