ok, What is happening in Zenimax in this precise moment?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:29 pm

That's not really true now, is it. If you was truly indifferent you wouldn't be posting here. Or can you explain to me why you would waste time on a forum and discuss products of a franchise you don't have any feelings for?

True, though I finished Skyrim three months ago (out of stubborness because I did spend money on it) I'm still lurking out of some morbid fascination about this franchise's future. I'm indifferent in that I don't care if they crash and burn or if they somehow make a game that doesn't svck. I'm indifferent in that I have no emotional or financial investment with the Elder Scrolls anymore. That doesn't mean I can't partake in online debates about them though, does it? I feel like I was robbed of £40 last year so I'm still venting really, and this MMO news didn't really help matters.

At the end of the day, we're all here because we're fans of the RPG genre.

they are now working on making a 1st person view feature

I kid you not
I'd hope hope hope that they would be doing this. Seeing the reaction they are now completely changing the game. Unlikely I know. Part of me wishes they had announced this much much earlier and got a more general fan view. Assuming from the TES multiplayer discussion thread seems to have been an unwise choice. 'Oh look the fans want a multiplayer game? Generic mmo time!'

Again. Its not Bethesda making this Game its Zenimax Online (maybe you should google it). Also you know nothing about the Development costs so everything you just sayed is pure Speculation.
Your one and only go-to counterargument for everything appears to be "that's speculation" (or anything to that effect). It would be a good idea to get some philosophical training before attempting to argue on internets forums again.

Well if they take the reactions to heart and act upon it then it may work out, if they just plow ahead as planned then TESO will have a spot amongst the mediocre mmos like Rift, WAR and all the asian clones.

I don't doubt the devs can make a good game, but I doubt the leadership in following the WoW mold trap.

Is he "not remotely" shocked because he knew the game would receive this criticism, or because he doesn't care?

In any case, I expect Zenimax to wait for the gameinformer coverage to end before they act one way or another. Early june, we will probably see the real forums launch, and they will channel the feedback from there. Then we will see how they proceed.

He sounds like he's saying "Not remotely" as if "hey, I told you so, a TES mmo would never work if you took out everything that makes it TES, but you greedy idiots at Zenimax tried it anyway"... so he's "not remotely" surprised at all the negative feedback...

Well you still seam to think that Bethesda is doing this MMORPG. I was just making things a little bit clearer for you.
My god, this whole conversation, have you been paying any attention to what has been said? At ALL???? I don't want want to simply insult you as it'll get me banned, but seriously, they established a million times they knew who was developing the game and are not talking about who developed it all but simply the economics of it, which you dismiss as "speculation" and therefore apparently useless. That's like saying it's pure speculation that opening a box which contained a rock when you last opened 5 seconds ago and saw had a rock in it will reveal that the rock is still there. It's like saying that the conclusion that two take one equals one based on the fact that one plus one equals two is speculation. They're using basic logic based on an understanding of the market and fundamental economics. How do you not understand this? What world do you live in where no logical inference can be taken from anything? Destroying part of a company damages the company. Giving people what they've made clear they don't want will not make it popular. And the fact that Bethesda did not make this game has absolutely nothing to do with that whatsoever.

No they won't. A TES fan either plays it or they don't. By not playing it you're not 'boycotting' it. And, for every digruntled single play TES fan there's a dozen MMO fans who don't give a hoot about where it's coming from.

Your statement makes it sound like you're unfamiliar with the current MMO market. The majority of players are already completely sick of wow clones, which is why every single wow clone fails to make a splash. Most players leave wow to get away from it, not to go play an inferior wow with a new skin. The three big names in the MMO market right now, Guild wars 2, Tera, and Secret World, are all very different from wow and offering many new and unique innovations to the genre. These will be big games when they release later this year.

This game is going to release AFTER those games. If you think players aren't receptive now, just wait until next year when they have free-to-play new and innovative mmos that don't blatantly copy wow. Instead of trying to create something innovative, Zenimax took the cheap and easy way out, and both TES fans and MMO players recognize that and are rightfully angry. The enormous limitations with the engine they are using (Hero Engine) has already been seen in action as well - it's what led to SWTOR failing.

If you've followed the MMO market, you'd see this game is already moving in the wrong direction on nearly all fronts, and the current outpouring of negativity will only be magnified as this news spreads through the MMO crowd, you'll see.

Personally what I'm wondering here (and this may have been covered before) is why they don't have any methods of interacting with the community set up now. This is highly unusual as far as MMOs go, the closest they seem to have come to a concession towards online presence are a pair of empty "official" twitter/FB pages. This is something few non MMOs can get away with these days, and to see an MMO in such a situation feels beyond strange. Why would they make this kind of announcement with so little preparation? It confuses me.

Oh silly this is not a Book site/forum. Its a Videogame Website. You just posted on the wrong forum.

After seeing your arguments on several threads I can now officially conclude that you are the worst debater active on these forums, on either side of any argument. At least the "PRAISE ESO" guy sticks to his guns. Never trust a Pony (Brony), as I always say.

At this stage, they would have to make most details in the GI article false in order to do that, whereby actually innovating on the genre in the AAA class of MMOs. And by "best" do we mean "most successful" or do we means "best quality" because the two rarely go hand in hand.

Just because some wannabe Experts from the Internet think they know everything better? Oh please.
I don't know how to make a radio either, but I know what features I want in a radio, or a game, and if enough people don't like what features you put into a radio, or a game, it will be bad for the makers of the radio, or the game.

I personally LOVE it when my radio can't pick up any local stations, only receives Russian encrypted military channels and occasionally spits battery acid in my eyes.

Probably because he doesn't take the hysterical ranting and raving by a small portion of people on the internet with an entitlement complex seriously.

Nor should he.

Yup, the suits want a WoW clone so that's what we're getting, and they want to try to cash out on it ASAP, not dump more development time and money into it. Hope they haven't allocated too much money to this.

How are you paying for this?

ZeniMax Media recently announced a http://www.zenimax.com/news_pressrelease10.25.07.htm, and of course the massive success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3 only adds to the assets that helped fund ZeniMax Online. Suffice it to say, we're covered.

I'm glad you know next to nothing, it makes these threads so much more interesting. Less intellectual unfortunately, but interesting.

Sarcasm aside, although it's certainly well deserved, I love how people are like "the suits want this, they want just a WoW clone to make easy money!" Have you ever stopped for a minute, just one minute, and thought that maybe one of the members of ZMOnline... I dunno, say... the lead designer, wanted to do the TES MMO this way?

Im normally very excited when new games of an certain franchise come out. I followed the news/forums of several Warhammer games.
I didnt buy some of them in the end, but just reading stuff of an favorite ip is so much fun :)

I bought Morrowind and followed the news on Oblivion and Skyrim on the forums and gamesites, bought both games and loved it. (although Skyrim is an hack and slash "rpg")
But tbh i coudnt care less about a TES online.. its looks so fkin lame and some of the leaked info is a joke..

I hope it works out well for zenimax, would be horrible to throw away all those dollars developing the game and they end up in some serious money problems.

Long story short, i aint buying it looks like mmorpg number 2735648

They honestly probably don't care. Anyone remember all the negativity Skyrim received? I do, and to me it's just a little worse than what Skyrim got. Turns out it sold better than ES game in history at launch. People are angry because there is change. People for whatever reason hate change and will continue to hate on it for all of time. I'm looking forward to a new TES title, even though it will be in a different style game. Lets give it a chance first before we kill it no?

Keep the ad hominem attacks coming. Still waiting for a proper counterargument.

Also, let me ask you this: do you think the lead designer would have still wanted to do the TES MMO this way if the "WoW formula" had been totally unheard of?

I love it when people cite logical fallacies when they can't actually continue debating. Because of course the only answer has to be that this was a corporate suit decision. Forgive me for not being so narrow minded.
