What's the general consensus on Skyrim?

Post » Fri Aug 10, 2012 7:10 pm

I was only able to play Skyrim a week or so after it was released due to military duties, so I wasn't able to check the forums and such after the release.
I remember how bad Oblivion was received, so I was just wondering how Skyrim fared.

I have played quite a bit of Skyrim now, and I must say as a longtime TES (since Morrowind) I think it's the best game yet.

What do you think?

I don't think it's the best game in the series, but it's fun to play.

Fun, but the worst Roleplaying of the series. It's almost crossed the line from RPG to System-Shock-style Action/Stealth game with level-ups. If I was in charge of the series, Oblivion would be as far as I'd be willing to go in the streamlining department. If you like the series, it's certainly not a waste of money.

I think it recieved a fair to good consensus. However, there are many people here that will complain about anything and consider the game complete garbage since they can't like ride a dragon or some junk.

I personally love it. I have very few gripes with it. Been a fan since Morrowind and it's way to hard to rank the three.

It's an awful badly designed badly executed mess of a game. It's also the best in the series yet.

It gets old fast, and the bugs get old even faster.

That's how I feel. Skyrim can never replace it, however.

Skyrim is the worst TES game except for all those others that have been made.

Not much different from any other TES game (for its time): big, immersive, fun, flawed. Still better than most of its rivals.*

*All of its rivals if you consider it as a series.

It's a good game, but not the best in the series. I do like it more for some of the features it has out of the box that the other games don't have.

No mod for that. No one cares enough yet. Maybe the guy making the revealing male clothing series can hop onto such a project.

Good action, weak rpg. The world design is impressive, the engine and animations are a few steps forward. It's fun to play, combat improved, the atmosphere, music and art style are awesome.

Unfortunately they've stripped the classic Rpg mechanics to a point where the game is more like an adventure with light Rpg elements. One can still RP the [censored] out of it especially if one likes larping in video games, but for me (a stats lover) it lacks too much already to be a good Rpg.

The dialogue, storytelling, questlines are a let down. There are no appropriate, fullfilling consequences for your choices. The handholding is once again atrocious, stupidproof. That's good for sales, but for me it takes away the challenge, the sense of progression via trial & error with no safety net.

The voice acting, the amount of content, the beautiful diverse handcrafted environments are much better this time. I like exploring the world and the dungeons.

I don't like the fact the race you pick is less and less important. I wish there were more gameplay changing particularities attached to each race.

Doesn't Beth know romances are necessary for RPGs?

I think the only good bromance we get is from Farkas, but that's because he's always nice.

As far as I'm concerned, Skyrim is just as good as Oblivion and Morrowind. Can't comment on Arena or Daggerfall as I haven't played them.
Each TES has different strengths and different weaknesses, but at the end of the day it's all down to opinion. No Elder Scrolls game is better than another, not overall.

It's fun, but doesn't have the replayability Morrowind does, and the guild questlines seem remarkably short.

Too hunky. We need to have effeminate elves instead.
Back on topic: Skyrim is better than Oblivion. IMO.

Yeah, but how many rivals does it actually have? Open world, free roaming rpgs are not exactly common.
