what do you do during load screens?

Post » Thu Feb 10, 2011 9:39 am

I've had the exact opposite problem. Sometimes I try to read the little tips that pop up on the load screens and the game starts before I can finish. Always thought that was a little bit annoying.

Edit: Just noticed that you said you installed it to your hard drive so I guess you are talking about playing on the 360? I can tell you on a nice PC the load times are counted in just a few seconds for me.

Me to it's kinda frustrating when the tip on the load screen is three lines or more

Same here, i try to read the text, but it's just too fast. Aggravating. The older family desktop however seems to take several minutes in the loading screens, good thing i don't have to play with it :D

I'm a PC user, so I don't have bad load times (2 - 3 seconds). So I'm trying as hard as I can to read the tips but they go by too fast.

Dial-up, pah! I remember the days of waiting ten minutes for anything to load on a Speccy. And christ, you PC nerds really are an irritating bunch of little techno-snobs, aren't you? Not everyone can afford a decent gaming pc, you're talking at least several hundred pounds for something which will be outdated in two years time.

I only have slow loading times in the New Vegas area but everywhere else loading is decent for me. I've got the game installed onto my Xbox 360 hard drive.

My loading screens are pretty short actually, 10-15 seconds 30 tops, if it's longer than a minute I pull the plug.

Edit: I'm on xbox also.

Same here. Longest load was about 45 seconds when I entered the Strip for the first time.

so like i've found that going from freeside to freeside....i can load the dishwasher start it and wait for it to finish running before the load screen is done. When i get to the King's HQ i enter the building and while it's loading i start a load of laundry wait for that to finish and go stare at the load screen for 2 more minutes.

This had me  so damn hard. I go out, smoke a cigarette, then come back in. Usually I only get the really long load screens around the New Vegas Strip though, so I don't smoke 3 and a half packs in 2 hours.

I go get my quest and leave the building, i drive to the oil change and get my oil changed drive back home and watch 4 more minutes of load screens. I then leave freeside and drive 5 miles to the grocery store and do my grocery shopping for the week come back and i'm still looking at load screens.

-yes im being sarcastic, but these load screens completely ruin this game for me. The bugs the...screw it you all know the list of problems people are having.
-I've tried installing it to my HD and still no difference, i have a feeling i have to sell this game because i just cant enjoy a game that takes this long to load and doesnt really impress me.

Not that any of you care, just sayin i buy games to enjoy them and i'm not really enjoying this game and i really dont think it's the games fault...if that makes sense.

Nothing they load to fast, if you have time to do anything other than take a btreath or blink i sugest you get a better system.

LOL just been reading some of the other replys,
heres a tip
1/ uninstall the game,
2/ then defrag your harddrive,
3/ then reinstall the game,
this should speed load times up as you obviously have very slow harddrives and the game data's spread all over in fragmented files.

I am on the 360 and have no problem. Do you have the Slim by chance? I read a few posts where people have the Slim have some problems. Not shure if that is true or not. For me, I usually can't read the "tips" they have on the top. I find it much faster than Fallout 3 or Oblivion.

On xbox clearing the file cache really does improve load times. Ive found that as you play the times get longer and longer so its a good idea to do this every time you load up to play.
Its not the hard drive cache but "holding left bumper, right bumper and x button all at the same time as the game begins to load to main title screen". To be fair this tip was given by developers and it makes a difference if things get too slow!

Do you mean when you start play, and you get the "black" screen before the logo shows up? I thought it was hit and hold the "A" button to do this. I never herd hold left bumper, right bumper and X button at the same time before main title screen. So how long do you hold it for? 30 seconds, 60 seconds? I just herd hold A button till the "Bethesda" logo pops up, not main title screen. So that is holding for about 30 seconds or so till the main screen comes up and it says "click Start".

Maybe it's your PC dude, The longest I've ever been at a loading screen was having the little ball go around the wheel once :brokencomputer:

2-3 seconds (PC)

Then again, I'm using a quad cpu and ssd.

I try to read the tips before they vanish from the quick load screen, similar to what one member posted.

Only takes maybe 5 to 15 seconds depending on the place. This is on the Playstation 3. Anything longer than 45 and I know it's stuck. It can still get pretty annoying!

Gotta join the chorus here - my loadscrees usually take about 10 seconds and sometimes are so fast I - as others have said - don't have time to read the tips if they are more than a few lines long.

I feel lucky that I haven't had as bad a loading screen problem as some people since putting it on the HD. My hardrive actually bricked right before it came out, so I played it for about a week off the disc, and the loading screens were a bit long, and then after 3 hours really really bad. Probably 30-40 secs for an open area for the first hour or so, and then 2-3 mins after a few hours. Now that I bought a new HD and installed it, it's at about 5 secs for the first couple hours, and then 30s-1m after a few hours. Huge improvement, so definitely tolerable if I restart the game every 3-4 hours. I definitely never had this problem with FO3 if I'm being honest though, I'd gone on 10-14 hour marathons on that game with no problem.

I get really long loading screens when I've been playing for hours on end, but I see that as kind of my fault for not giving my poor 360 a break :) It doesn't bother me much - I normally light up my cigarette which always goes out while playing as I'm far too absorbed in the game to smoke. One night it got so slow that I got out my book and read a couple of paragraphs while the loading screen was on. If that's the worst part of the game I come across, I am a happy camper (no bugs yet - touch wood!).

HA! Great to hear someone else does the cigarette thing. I always light it up when I think I'm gonna have a lull with either loading, or some lengthy traveling without incident, and I always wind up in some sort of firefight and waste the hell out of the cigarette as it just burns on its own, or I put it out because the action gets consuming enough that I can't spare the hand and I know it'll burn out before the action is done.

i'm playing on my PC, so i guess FNV is too much for most consoles or older PC's. Idk just a theory :)

That'd be my guess. I'm also playing on PC and the load times are mostly pretty fast.

Install it to your HD. It reduces bugs/load times.

the patch fixed alot of load times for me (on 360), but the fast traveling still isn't all that "fast"... but i pass the time by thumbing through the game guide, at the moment i have like 13 active quests and i'm in the thick of that absurdly big guide....i feel overwhelmed and it's awesome :fallout:
