what do you do during load screens?

Post » Thu Feb 10, 2011 1:44 am

so like i've found that going from freeside to freeside....i can load the dishwasher start it and wait for it to finish running before the load screen is done. When i get to the King's HQ i enter the building and while it's loading i start a load of laundry wait for that to finish and go stare at the load screen for 2 more minutes. I go get my quest and leave the building, i drive to the oil change and get my oil changed drive back home and watch 4 more minutes of load screens. I then leave freeside and drive 5 miles to the grocery store and do my grocery shopping for the week come back and i'm still looking at load screens.

-yes im being sarcastic, but these load screens completely ruin this game for me. The bugs the...screw it you all know the list of problems people are having.
-I've tried installing it to my HD and still no difference, i have a feeling i have to sell this game because i just cant enjoy a game that takes this long to load and doesnt really impress me.

Not that any of you care, just sayin i buy games to enjoy them and i'm not really enjoying this game and i really dont think it's the games fault...if that makes sense.

I've had the exact opposite problem. Sometimes I try to read the little tips that pop up on the load screens and the game starts before I can finish. Always thought that was a little bit annoying.

Edit: Just noticed that you said you installed it to your hard drive so I guess you are talking about playing on the 360? I can tell you on a nice PC the load times are counted in just a few seconds for me.

My loading screens are pretty short actually, 10-15 seconds 30 tops, if it's longer than a minute I pull the plug.

Edit: I'm on xbox also.

try to hurry and read the text on screen before it loads. Takes about 5 secs to load a fast travel.

If they are getting too long, quit the game and load again. It helps.
But if they are long I read trhough my official game guide.

Wow. It's a couple of secs for me. A PC with a WD caviar Black. Nothing special at all. OC'd i5 and a GTX 260.

Be about 4 - 6 times as strong as a 360. Literally ... one ... two ... three ...we loaded.

I'm getting a SSD soon. That should be about 6 - 8 times faster.

I also have the problem of not being able to read the information in time, and all I'm using is a WD Caviar Blue (along with AMD Phenom II 550 @ 3.7GHz and a GTS250 OC).

During load screens, I blink. The damn game doesn't even give me time to take a breath during transitions. It's just too damn fast on PC :(

Most cell-to-cell load screens on my system are only a few seconds (10 sec would be long). But that's with a 10k RPM SATA and a 2-3 year old machine (quad-core but with a newer GTX 460 card).

Now... the initial "start the game, walk away for a minute or three while it starts up"? That's the annoying one (especially when I'm trying to test a mod). My cat gets a bit of attention while I wait for it to load, lucky kitty.

Freeside messes up the loading times, I'm not sure why.

It's always ok until I go there, then the load times get super slow.

I wish we could just fast travel directly to the Strip.

I dont have the long loading problem as much any-more, just turn off "save on travel" and only let it save the game when you wait and rest it doesn't happen as much, but when it did i could make a cup of coffee and have a smoke :flamed:

I'm playing on 360 with it ripped to hard drive too, and I'd echo the comment above: If your loading screens are taking so long that you can read the flavor text more than once, quit your game and reload it. This means you will probably be quitting and reloading 1-2 times every time you play, unfortunately, but personally, I need to do that anyway because long loading screens typically come right before choppy video and finally freezing outright. Had the same problem with Fallout 3.

I got very fast loading screens, but being on a PC i can allow the game to utilize 4gigs of Ram instead of it's default 2gigs, so that helps quite abit.

u mad?

Seriously, you need to detect the sarcasm in most of the PC players' posts regarding the info reading as a "problem".

On xbox clearing the file cache really does improve load times. Ive found that as you play the times get longer and longer so its a good idea to do this every time you load up to play.
Its not the hard drive cache but "holding left bumper, right bumper and x button all at the same time as the game begins to load to main title screen". To be fair this tip was given by developers and it makes a difference if things get too slow!

My game loads so fast that when I start up it won't even show the Obsidian Entertainment logo most of the times, usually it has finished loading and goes to the main menu before the Bethesda Softworks screen (which comes first) disappears.

As if there wasn't enough confusion already about who made the game. :P

I'm on the ps3 and for me the load times vary, sometimes it's so fast i can't read the loading screens and sometimes it slows down to around 20 seconds. It usually depends on where im going, how i get there (fast travel vs running), and how long ive been playing

I've only encountered a long loading screen a few times and I'm playing on Xbox 360.

And I'll say this. Anyone remember dial up? yeah, we've gotten a tad bit spoiled to "instant entertainment" Not attacking the op here, just saying.
