What do you wear for clothing or armor?

I like the Redguard outfit - clothes, Hammerfell boots, and head gear. Not sure if you can buy it - I pickpocketed mine from the Redguards that are out looking for ... somebody.

There are 2 sets of this style of outfit.

Spoiler
The Al'akir set (Hammerfell Garb, Al'akir headwrap, Redguard Boots) on the guys you're talking about and the Redguard set which looks exactly the same, but is more red in color.

Indeed, I bought the Redguard set at RR's in Solitude and killed the other guys for their more unique outfit.

What looks best and does the job for you?

I put a lot of perks points into light armor but decided to start wearing heavy as well. With double enchanting this makes switching pretty easy, so I am not really week from not having all the light armor extra benefits from perks playing on master. Deadric helmet, dragon scale armor and boots, deadric gauntlets(I think they look bad ass when using magic) and a shield that has spikes for bleeding damage. This setup looks really cool and I still have an armor rating of 800, although its not 1200 with wearing all light armor it still does the job. 1200 armor rating is pretty much a waste anyway right?
I love Targe of the Blooded! It's one of my favorite shields. Targe with full steelplate is my favorite.

My Nord warrior wears Steel Plate Armor only, and then a set of commoners clothing for casual wear. He has a couple of different sets, but nothing fancy.

My Breton minx wears Savior's Armor with Boots and Bracers of the Old Gods, and then sometimes a hood with that. Around town she usually wears the Tavern Clothing, or Radiant Raiment Fine Clothing if she's trying to impress a Jarl.

Bosmer female, archer/1H: Used to wear Forsworn armor, tavern clothes around town. Now wears glass armor of major health that she found, with elven helmet, gauntlets and boots. It's a cool look, I think. I'll probably stick with it to the end, unless she finds something much better. She also carries the Shield of Solitude. Now Thane of The Reach, she wears brown fine clothes around town. Underwear when puttering around in Vlindrel Hall. Her housecarl doesn't seem to mind.

Dunmer female, spellsword: always changes to appropriate clothes. Usually a dress or her mage robes in town. Puts a hood on in the rain. She also has the miner's clothes as work clothes, for doing jobs like wood-chopping. Takes off armor before diving into deep water. She'd prefer to wear her light Imperial armor, but she's been in Stormcloak territory for nearly a month so she left it back at the College and wears hide armor of destruction that she found. She also bought a hide helmet of magicka, and that's been her look from level 4 to 20. A bit too "Nord barbarian" for her tastes, but she's practical and will wear the best kit she can get ahold of. She's destined for the Legion, so I'll get her into full Imperial eventually, hopefully enchanted.

Breton male, barbarian: I'm running him as a Conan. He wears the fur kilt with hide bracers and boots in battle, and some clothes that he stole from the Sleeping Giant Inn when he wants to pretend to be respectable. I tried out all the barbarian armor types, but I kept coming back to that silly bare-chested fur armor. I'll have to see how high I can smith it.

Spellbreaker shield; throws up a level 50 ward whenever you block. Makes dealing with mages and dragons as a warrior a whole lot easier!

Sweet thanks man :D

I use the green and black clothing, with thieves guild boots, and light imperial bracers. My character is modeled after robin hood.
