What's your current opinion of BioWare?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 9:15 am

I think their days are numbered. It won't be long until things get really, really bad. If they weren't bad already. I thinks its obvious how deep EA is into who they are.

Why? They continue to make amazing games, nothing wrong with them or EA....

Combat better???I was not aware making stealth in Dragon Age 2 completely pointless is classed as a improvement.Being able to survey the battlefield and lay traps at choke points was fun for me,I guess Bioware thought this was not fast enough and did not fall in line with the awesome button mentality.

I also think Dragon Age 2 was better....

From your perspective, obviously not. But they are making a shift so to speak, from Scorsese to Micheal Bay. If you like Bay's film's, you're in luck. Bioware is right for you. If you like more nuanced and sophisticated fare, Bethesda and CDPR are up your alley.

Fixed to reflect my perspective. All of the big developers (including Bethesda) are catering to a wider audience these days. I think the sun might be setting on the industry that produced AAA titles that aren't at least somewhat "streamlined" to broaden the target demographic. It (targeting folks looking for a more sophisticated gaming experience) just limits the money-making potential of the product too much.

It's a video game, meant for fun. You want sophisticated go play Dungeons and Dragons or something...

I currently have no opinion. I stopped caring about them after ME2. I was in love with them during my early years. It's a shame really...

I don't tend to do the whole over-the-top "AAAAA! They released one product I don't like! They are now Dead To Me!" thing.

Maybe Dragon Age 2 wasn't great (don't know, haven't played it). Why does that mean one suddenly has to say "Bioware svcks, I'll never look at another product of theirs again." Stuff like that is silly. Judge each thing on a case by case basis. There's plenty of companies that have put out a good game, a game I disliked, and then another good game. If I blew them off after the bad game, I'd have missed the next one.

The Bioware games I've enjoyed most so far were DA:O and ME3.

Overall, I enjoyed ME2, DA2 and ME1 as well. Hoping the third game in the Dragon Age series turns out to be better than the second, and from what I understand there will be a longer development period, which will probably help.

Haven't had a chance to play Baldur's Gate or KOTOR 1 yet.

Sick of seeing these threads. Really. Only thing people seem to be mad at bioware is Mass Effect 3's ending. I ask people why they are mad at them and they only mention that. Sure it's a huge thing that they did wrong. I'm mad about it.

They have made my favorite game. Then made a sad ending. I won't hate them forever. I did after the first few days of ME but now I realized there's nothing we can do.

I'm sad to say the last Bioware game I completed was NWN. Bioware has done some great things with their games, but unfortunately I can't get Mass Effect to run properly on my computer and I don't want to move onto later parts of the series without finishing the first one. I bought Dragon Age on Steam a while back, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, although I really ought to (same with DX3, which I'm even more embarrassed about delaying).

I liked Mass Effect 3's ending. Couldn't really see it ending any other way.

My main problem is that they didn't learn from their mistakes, they screwed up big time with KotoR2 releasing a half finished game for the deadline, and did the same thing again with DA2.

Going down the drain I wouldn't be surprised if in a year or two EA fires everyone at Bioware.

Kotor 2 was made by Obsidian.

Actually, Obsidian developed KOTOR 2. Also it wasn't a half finished game, more like 90% finished. The game is great right up towards the end, where it drops off suddenly.

Has anyone ever seen any interviews about that? I know I've read that Lucasarts suddenly shortened the dev time by about 10 months or so, so they could have a star wars game in time for christmas. Obsidian employees have a hard time holding in the rage about that.

I can't say I hate them. A lot of the current BioWare hate seems to stem from the ME3 ending, and seeing as I don't even like ME, I don't care. :P I do however like the Dragon Age franchise a lot, I enjoyed Origins greatly, loved Awakenings and even finished DA2+expansions more often than I finished Origins. And I'm really excited to see what they'll do with DA3... if they manage to finish it before EA tightens the noose. The little I read on DA3 sounded pretty good to me, that they want to take the best bits from both games (DA2's combat with Origin's not-so-repetitive, more interesting environments).

I always found the Dragon Age games poor, but the Mass Effect games great (i haven't played Mass Effect 3 yet, besides the demo).
I have to say though that from what I've read about 'TOR' (no, not the network service that is used primarily for questionable things) I was very appaled by their business practices, such as hiding the 'unsubscribe' button when the game was in a critically bad stage and most players wanted to just stop paying for the subscription.

As long as they apply the three-wave attacks with a bit more restraint instead of using them every bloody time! I'd be glad to never see them again, really. I am concerned about area re-use, which was one of DA:O's weaknesses too (you'd see the same few wilderness areas repeated often, for example, and there were only two(?) street layouts for Denerim besides major areas like the market) but which was really terrible in DA2. I'm sceptical that it'll properly be addressed since it's the sort of thing that takes time to develop properly, and time isn't something that fits in well with EA's "out the door as soon as possible" strategy where they'd have yearly releases if at all possible.

I hated all the characters in DA2. That emo mage, the promiscuous pirate woman, the dwarf, that shy blood magic elf, all of them.

I can't really place it, but I preferred origin's characters immensely. DA2's felt like walking caricatures.

Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2 and SWKoTR are amazing.

I didn't liked OC of Neverwinter Nights at all (expansions neither). I wasn't impressed by the story of DA:O and I have yet to play DA2, ME (1-2-3).

So for now, It's mainly nostalgia.
