What is your favorite FPS of all time ?

Post » Mon May 24, 2010 4:58 am

why ask this on a crysis forum?
Because not everyone in this site thinks Crysis is the best FPS game, it can maybe be only one of their favourite games.

UT3, Crysis, Far Cry, Far Cry 2, Dead Space (if it's counting like fps)... it's shame I've never played Half Life, nor HL2, but I will, and based on what others say, maybe it will be my next best fps.

I'm sure I forgot something...

I suppose I'm the minority when it comes to this game, but I believe S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl is one of the greatest games of this generation and is certainly one of my favorite games of all time. The Half-Life series is in there as well for it's great storytelling and gameplay, as well as pacing. I, like many of you, thoroughly enjoyed Crysis. As for other games, there's simply too many games to list.

FOR MP:
Unreal tournament - the definition of Perfectly balanced, fast-paced, competitive multiplayer.
Quake 3 Arena - this game was so prime when it came out.
Unreal 2004 - sweet graphics, massive maps, vehicles galore and a TON of awesome mods. Unreal did it so much better than Battlefield ever has (although BF3 looks promising!)
CS:S - who didn't play this game and enjoy it at some point?
Halo 2 - it improved on everything in the first, added cool features and awesome new maps and was easy to learn yet hard to master. **** Halo 3+.
CoD4 - it really was a sick game, despite being a bit of a twitch shooter. Lots of options, well balanced, and most importantly: fun.

FOR SP:
Crysis - it is awesome for a lot of reasons.
Halo:'Combat Evolved - I don't think there will ever be a single player campaign that absorbs my time like Halo did when it came out. My buddies and I beat it every way imaginable just because the co-op was so awesome and epic. Hell I haven't even seen the case for this game in close to 6 years and yet I remember that campaign just as clear as I do the Crysis campaign which I played through again a few months ago. You know you spent too much time playing a game as a child when you were able to beat the entire game using a plasma pistol (and when we ran out of battery and there were no plasma pistols, we killed each other so we'd spawn with one... Oh to be 13 again).
Half-life + Half-life 2 - pure awesomeness.
Rainbow 6: Rogue Spear + expansions - it started the whole class and custom class concept and made tactic over run and gun ESSENTIAL. God I miss good Tom Clancey games, Vegas was ****.

cod 4 hands down
anything after (in that series) is just a downgrade
It completely revolutionized the fps and still has a very loyal following
While I may not play it as much right now as I do other games (though I still play it) overall it is a very well made game
great sp and revolutionary mp, looks great, fantastic replay value, what else could you want

It's a tie between HL2 and Crysis. They both succeed at intense environmental and story immersion.

Honorable mentions:
Skynet (anyone remember this one?)
Medal of Honor: AA (SavingPrivate Ryan: the FPS)
Unreal Tournament (and '04)
BF2

Lots more but I'm trying to keep the list small.

Could Tie Fighter qualify as a First Person Sim Shooter? Cause I love me some Tie Fighter :) That's what we need to beat theh Ceph, a TIE Defender!
