What's your opinion on Vigilants of Stendarr?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 6:06 pm

Well, I've only played through the relevant faction's thread just a tiny bit so far, (no spoilers please) but so far as I can see, werewolves aren't inherently dangerous. I've seen one werewolf do no more than defend himself.

I love when they pass me on the road, it gives me a chance to seriously [censored] some people up in werewolf mode

I usually talk to them, exit dialogue, transform into a werewolf, and then show them that they are inferior to what they "hunt"

They fight an arguably good if hopeless cause. Vampires are about the only thing they could ever hope to eradicate. The daedra won't die, and one of the princes (who especially can't be stopped) will continue to make werewolves anyway. I suppose they're aware of that and feel that they should and will hunt them forever to try and keep their numbers down.

That said it would be cool to have them as a joinable faction, with some really strong rewards (to make up for the more evil faction rewards)

For followers of the god of mercy they lack any, even to the point they say it.
A massive missed oppurtunity to allow alternitive methods to deal with deadric disturbances, they are involved with one but we know how that goes.
Even the head of the order lacks anything truly new to say or even a misc quest to hunt something, kinda feels like, well what was the point of you pointing me in the direction of your HQ nameless VoS member?

I've got no problem with them except the werewolf hunting business. Daedra are almost without exception completely evil, and so deserve suppression. I have to assume the witches are all evil as well, since they all attack me on sight, just like bandits do. Vampires ditto: they live by feeding on people, for crying out loud.

But given that lycanthropy entails no insane blood-lust and doesn't turn anybody into an evil, people-hunting psychopath, they shouldn't be hunting werewolves.
You need to read the lore.

I admit on my "good" character I wouldn't mind joining them, but if they wanted me to hunt and kill a werewolf I'll kill the person giving me that order.

I don't think much of them. They will eventually go the same way as The Silver Hand, pissing off the wrong Vampire, Werebeast, Coven or Daedra and getting wiped out.

Ehh.. not really.

If I make people kill eachother and and upset a whole bunch of people for my own good. Just to have a laugh make me a good person, just wanting to habe fun!

all deadra are extremly selfish and would not mind having mortals die for their petty tasks. Sure if they manage to compleat the job they get a nice reward. Though that isnt really hard for a deadra price to conjure up. All are bad, just more or less. You will learn this if you read a bunch of lore on the deadra related tings such as books

Edit: sorry for spelling.. (Phone )
I've read up on plenty of lore on the Daedra, more than you I imagine. Boethia is evil. Molag Bal is evil. Mehrunes Dagon is evil. The others are debatable. The majority of them are neutral. Meridia is good, and I challenge you to find any lore stating otherwise. She hates the undead. That's all there is to her. Certain others could be considered good depending on your ethics. Yes, Daedra are selfish, but that doesn't mean evil. Azura cared for her followers in Oblivion, and also helps out Mournhold in Tribunal. Those are good qualities. She also allowed herself to be used in Morrowind, having a bet with Sheogorath, which if I recall, made her follower that was trapped there immune to age anyways, and her revenge in Skyrim, both of which are neutral. And also, if their mortal champion can't fend off a couple of Skeever's, they don't deserve whatever artifact that is reserved for them.

The only Daedric Lords I have come across that seem evil are Dagon, Molag Bal, Vaermina, Mephala, Namira and Boethiah (maybe).
Sheogorath, Azura, Meridia, Sanguine, Nocturnal, Jyggalag, Peryite, Hircine, Hermaeus Mora, Malacath, and Clavicus Vile are not malevolent.
Sure Peryite inflicts plagues, but he does it to maintain balance in the world.
Yes, Nocturnal is a thief goddess. This does not make her evil.
Hermaeus Mora is simply the embodiment of power from knowledge. He isn't evil either.
Malacath is definitely not evil, he is practically just a god-like Orc chief that wants the best for his orcs.
Hircine is just the embodiment of the hunt and Man's innate desire for the Hunt.

Azura, Sheogorath, Meridia, Sanguine, and Jyggalag are neutral to flat out good (as comparable to Malacath). Clavicus Vile is not truely evil either as he just grants wishes to the overconfident, which makes them pay for thier folly.

Anyway @ OP, I kill the Vigilants of Stendarr because they say "Walk in the light, or we will drag you to it." They are the Thalmor with far less influence and military bravado. They think they can tell me who I can worship then they die.

They're like an annoying version of Sigmar's Priests. I really like on how the churches of the NINE Divines are a lot more aggressive and active now, instead of walking around in a chapel the entire time.

Vigilants of Stendarr? Great people, I like a moving target every once in a while. Them bandits usually just mull around a fire or stare into oblivion while I take aim.

You'll occasionally see them traveling on roads and they say they hunt Deadra, werewolves, vampires and witches.
Personally, as a Deadra worshipper and a werewolf, I don't take kindly to people hunting my gods, so because they travel in two's, I can stealthily slit one's throat without the other noticing.

What do you think of them and what do you do when you encounter them?

I like them. I`m a bit of against anything `unnatural`, so even though the Stendarr are put across as somewhat fanatical and unforgiving, I would actually join them, if the game would let me.

Especially after I discovered you have to be in 3rd person as a Werewolf- Seriously unnatural! A good enough reason to destroy them all. :P

Annoying. Generally will kill them, just like the House of Horrors.

I'm drawn to the deadra, and see my character as a sort of demi-god.

The Vigilants of Stendarr piss me off because it seems as if either they were a last minute addition of complete randomness or they originally had a larger presence with a questline that was cut from the game. I've seen two of them fighting Flame Atronaches in the game. The second one won his battle with a little help from me and I was excited to see he had dialogue for me. When I finally found their hangout, I waltzed in wearing full Daedric armor after having helped out all of the Daedric princes in their various mischevious or nefarious deeds. To my dismay, not only did the Vigilants not try to kill me they didn't have any new dialogue nor random comments. How come the guards can notice I'm carrying Molag Bal's mace but these guys who are dedicated to wiping out Daedra don't?

When I first met this Vigilant of Stendar... I had the impression that I can be one but when I went to their base.. It's just nothing... Hopefully they'll add this to the list of factions that you can join and maybe add some quests that is against the Daedra/Daedric Lords... Just my 2 cents..

I find them ironic. For servants of the God of Mercy, they aren't very merciful. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to subdue and cure afflicted vampires and werewolves. I would think 200 years after Oblivion, someone somewhere would've developed a cure for these.

I like them and hate them. I like them because what they are but I hate them because I can't join in them and hunt with them. I think it's shame they didn't make Vigilants of Stendarr to be one of the main factions.

They are probably the laziest faction in skyrim, I encounter them while holding/wearing 7 Daedric Artifacts and they don't even lift a finger.

You can also walk around in any town in Thieves Guild armor or promenade through a Stormcloak camp in Imperial armor without any ill effect. It seems to be a general design decision on the part of the developers.
