What's your opinion on Vigilants of Stendarr?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 4:58 pm

You'll occasionally see them traveling on roads and they say they hunt Deadra, werewolves, vampires and witches.
Personally, as a Deadra worshipper and a werewolf, I don't take kindly to people hunting my gods, so because they travel in two's, I can stealthily slit one's throat without the other noticing.

What do you think of them and what do you do when you encounter them?

I enjoy the irony of killing one of them, then raising them as a thrall to fight the other*.

I feels like Bethesda threw them in the game at the last second.

I've got no problem with them except the werewolf hunting business. Daedra are almost without exception completely evil, and so deserve suppression. I have to assume the witches are all evil as well, since they all attack me on sight, just like bandits do. Vampires ditto: they live by feeding on people, for crying out loud.

But given that lycanthropy entails no insane blood-lust and doesn't turn anybody into an evil, people-hunting psychopath, they shouldn't be hunting werewolves.

At least the Daedra give gifts to thier worshippers and not just boring blessings. But yes they are evil, except for Azura, she's nice.

Well, yeah, they hand out gifts for going and doing incredibly sociopathic things, sure.

She's not that nice. She stuck a poor woman on a small island for years in Morrowinds Sheogorad region to win a bet, cursed an entire race because of the actions of 3 individuals and made a poor Dunmer woman stand on the top of a mountain waiting for me to randomly turn up to get a quest.

Not all Daedra are evil. Most don't even care about us, except what we can do for them, which they reward us greatly for. I encountered 2 Vigilants of Stendarr at Meridia's Shrine, and slew them instantly. Meridia is a good Daedra. She is practically the same thing as the Vigilants of Stendarr. Azura is typically considered good, except in Skyrim she is depicted more...vengeful. Peryite could be considered good, as his sphere is essentially justice. Malacath is essentially an abolitionist. Sanguine and Sheogorath just want to have a good time. The only ones you could truly call "bad Daedra" are Molag Bal and Mehrunes Dagon. The others are for the most part, neutral/good.

And yes, I hate the Vigilants of Stendarr. They're as bloodthirsty as the things they hunt, sometimes more so. When they eradicate all other monsters from Tamriel, they will still have themselves to kill.

They are wasted potential or they just put them there for future dlc.

And that chap locked up in Falkreath's prison might tend to agree with you (As would the parents of his victim).

Ehh.. not really.

If I make people kill eachother and and upset a whole bunch of people for my own good. Just to have a laugh make me a good person, just wanting to habe fun!

all deadra are extremly selfish and would not mind having mortals die for their petty tasks. Sure if they manage to compleat the job they get a nice reward. Though that isnt really hard for a deadra price to conjure up. All are bad, just more or less. You will learn this if you read a bunch of lore on the deadra related tings such as books

Edit: sorry for spelling.. (Phone :P)

You have neutral borderline good stormcloaks.
You have lawful neutral imperials.
You have chaotic-lawful neutral mages guild, with factions bordering to chaotic good and lawful evil.
You have a true neutral fighters guild.
You have a chaotic neutral borderline neutral evil thieves guild.
You have a neutral evil brotherhood.
You have lawful neutral blades.

...
Where is my GOOD faction dammit??!?!?!??!?!?!?

I sought out the vigilants in the hopes of joining a GOOD faction.
But no.
We've got the choice between finishing the game at level 17, or making skyrim a worse place.

I think they might be an interesting faction if they get fleshed out a bit, but for noq they seem like fanatics to me, but they are nice enough to cure diseases. I haven't had any business with them so I leave them alone.

I wish I could join them. They are the only "order" that can be consider a force of good (unlike the Thieves Guild, the Dark Brotherhood or the Companions).

The Daedra are evil and need to be destroyed. Some werewold hunting would be cool too.
