The difference between muffin and cupcakes are simple. Cupcakes are made from ponies, muffens are made from flour :P .

Cupcake batter is light, muffin batter is dense. Cupcakes are never savoury, while muffins are traditionally savoury. Cupcakes have icing, muffins don't.

Muffins like this?

Pretty sure blueberry and chocolate don't count as savoury. :P

Wow never really considered there to be a difference.
I often munch on a muffin, one that is chocolate, so does that mean I'm now munching on my cupcake?

Over here (in the UK) cake mixes are a relatively new thing.
Why does everyone who bakes a lot live far away from me. It is an outrage that I'm not buried in cupcakes on a daily basis and I'm going to complain to the management.

Savoury cupcakes sound wrong. Muffins deserve the savoury love!

And yes, muffins are traditionally savoury.

Eh? Most muffins I've seen are either fruity or chocolate.

You can make a cupcake with no frosting or frost a muffin, it's just uncommon.

Cupcakes are closer to actual cakes, while muffins are usualy heavier and not as sweet.

 I like smart alecs.
It's not even a somewhat smart-alecey post. It's just using your brain. From looking at the recipe you should see plenty of things distinguishing a muffin from a cupcake. You know, instead of making completely ridiculous threads like this one.

She is from scotland. She probably has heroin as a secret ingredient.

After seeing that pic however, I agree. They do look very nice.

It's the overall taste that's savory, even if you add other flavors like blueberries. At least, I wouldn't call a blueberry or chocolate muffin a dessert.

How many homemade cupcakes have you had? The pre-mix cake-mix kind is VERY American. Over here (in the UK) cake mixes are a relatively new thing. Most people bake from scratch. Personally I loathe boxes of cake mix. Just buy some damn flour, sugar and powdered milk you lazy git...

Yeah I feel quite strongly about it. :(

The last time I tried to make a muffin I think invented a new construction material.

Are you related to one of the mods, or Gstaffs troll account or something ?

Epicfail is just Epicfail, he asks these kind of questions.

I find them entertaining.

I think muffins are just plainer and cupcakes are actually bigger than muffins I believe or is that the other way around?

Wait I think the muffins are bigger and the cupcakes are smaller.

Cupcakes normally taste like balls. They're all icing and crap. I much prefer a decent muffin myself!

Cupcakes are well, cake so they are lighter and fluffier. Muffins are more like bread, so denser.
