Whats the difference between a Muffin and a Cupcake besides

Easy.

My thoughts on them both: I think cupcakes are very cake-like, they are sweet and are eaten at parties and such. Muffins are less sweet and the consistency is different. I would for example have a muffin for lunch, but I wouldn't want to eat cupcakes for lunch if I were hungry.

Sorry, but I just couldn't help myself :

[spoiler]

OT, just a guess, but don't muffins have milk in the recipe, whereas cupcakes don't?

Gosh, I haven't heard that in years! I wonder what Frank Zappa would be doing if he were still alive.

But on topic, at the risk of sounding crude, I once had a love interest I nicknamed Cupcake. I really liked her Muffin. :hubbahubba:

It's hella important.

OMG OMG OMG! My Bay Area slang has made it all the way to Scotland! :touched: I feel so validated.

This is weird. When I was in England many moons ago I was told a muffin was what we would call an "English Muffin" and what we would call a muffin was a "tea cake". I'm so confused.

The flat thing we call an "English Muffin" is just called a muffin when you're in England. Oh, and a crumpet is just a extra thick muffin. And the things baked in a paper liner are a tea cake (I didn't even know you guys have "cup cakes" like we do). Did I get that right? Anybody? Bueller?

Right. http://foodrepublik.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/cranberry-lemon-muffin-close.jpg. Also a http://www.kff.co.uk/assets/images/Breakfast-Muffin1.jpg. Do the guys who give things names just wake up one day and think "know, what, I feel like confusing the hell out of someone today. That'll take the edge off my hangover."

Muffins are completely different from cupcakes. I bake both on a fairly regular basis, and they use entirely different processes.
"Muffins" are cupcakes marketed for self-conscious people.

There are a whole lot more "muffins" than there are real muffins.

They do look totally different though. If I made a cupcake and it 'muffin topped' over the sides of the case I'd consider it a failure. If my muffin did it I'd be happy. :)

Epicfail is just Epicfail, he asks these kind of questions.

I find them entertaining.

I think muffins are just plainer and cupcakes are actually bigger than muffins I believe or is that the other way around?

Wait I think the muffins are bigger and the cupcakes are smaller.
Oh its not him asking stupid questions, im just suprised he hasnt been warned/banned about making threads. (most dont really have a purpose)

Somehow, I'd never noticed this, but you're completely right. That's the difference between "muffins" and cupcakes. Real muffins, as has been said, are very different from both.

They're for my younger brother's birthday. I wouldn't want that much decoration myself.

EDIT:

@Oof. I didn't get enough icing! :( Personally less is more for me, but for decoration purposes more would have been better.

You can buy icing?

Knight, for future reference, icing = 1 part butter + 1 part icing sugar + 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence/paste/pods for every 2 cups of the butter-sugar mixture. :)
