When have you been scared?

Occasionally when I've turned around to see a previously-unnoticed Draugr in my face I've been startled, but Skyrim has never frightened me.

TBH I have jumped a lot from this game.

Falmer dropping....
seeing a dwenmer construct for the first time.

Anytime you don't see a bear, troll, or sabre before your in their "kill range" because they are up in your face before you know what to do.
Whenever I miss a draughr or anything in a dungeon and I think I'm safe.
When I find a wispmother.
When a dragon has already BOOM and landed 10 ft away from me and I'm like "WHERE THE #*&! DI YOU COME FROM?".
When all of a sudden I'm losing health because of a flying object.
Most any of the children in Skyrim are pre-psychotic and some of the advlts are freaky too but they don't really make me jump.

Yeah.... I'm a puss. I've just never played anything like this where it seems a little real and so I get geniunely startled.

when im sneaking and a guy i didn't know was there pops out and attacks it makes me jump a bit, but the psychological fear elements don't do a thing for me. even in fallout 3 the cannibals creeped me out a bit, but in this game there's a big sense of detachment in most aspects. hmm humans for dinner, okay then...kill that guy? why not?...

No nothing scary like in games like Fear or Silent Hill or Dead Space, but on my first playthrough at level 11 i came along to an lighthouse, as soon as i entered the lighthouse i saw the dead bodies of the former residents so i checked the place for any clues of what happened, then i heard that noise like an alien animal it was kind of creepy to not know the source of that noise.
Finally i decided to go to the cellar and i have to say i was a little bit frightened and that feeling didn't got better after my first encounter with the Chaurus but at the end of my dark journey through frostflow abyss i thought i couldn't get anymore worse.. till i jumped down to a dark cavern and meet the reaper.. the chaurus reaper at lvl 11.
The fight was over before it really began.. i had no chance, even worse i tried to escape and rush for the exit of this Bug Nightmare but they were too many of them, so after 10 tries i finally gave up and loaded the last save and leaved the abyss the way i came from.
Now i always fear the chaurus reaper even when i encounter them with a high level PC... i would say i fear the chaurus reaper in Skyrim like i feared the Deatclaws in FO3. Ok the deathclaws in fo3 were more deadly, but the chaurus reaper are big poisonous bugs and i always had a deep disgust against bugs plus they are pretty tough till you reach level 25.

Eh nothing really scary in Skyrim, Oblivion, or Morrowind.

Daggerfall was a bit terrifying at times, though.

I have a feeling it had to do with the excellent dungeon ambiance(especially the sound), along with enemies actually being dangerous.

Not scared per se, but early on, when you can get killed very easily, some of the dungeons got intense with multiple targets... It' s the "fear" of getting killed. While my first Ancient dragon didn't scare me, it was a tense fight - I lost, but it was down to who got in that last shot. We both were down to a speck of health - I thought I had the drop, and - blast - I' gone.....

I haven't been scared by a game since i played Silent Hill 3. And in that one's case it was not what was there that was scary, but what wasn't :cold: The orginal three used darkness and souns excellently to build atmosphere. Skyrim doesn't even try. Obviously because that is not what it tries to do.

I found parts of blood on the ice scary (the suspense of not knowing what might happen)

It was the same at the start of the mind of madness quest.

Well, it was like 2 in the morning and I didn't really know what to expect in the 'abandon house' so I was pretty scared when the house started to shake and the priest said "O my O my this is greater then I expected, we have to get out of here!" Perfect devil scene right there.

Yes I'm always frightened in Whiterun there's an old hag who keeps harassing me "have you come for a daily good deed" or something like that and I'm afraid she might take her clothes off.
Come to chat with an old women? Hmm? Do your good deed for the day?

It was so short lived, preferred way did it in FO3, with Lovecraftian references to boot...

I found that when I had been playing for hours, it was like 4am and I was tired, going into caves started to feel scary rather than quitting and doing it fresh after some sleep.

Well, not really scared, but more startled. Without getting spoilery as to location or specific identity, I had just defeated a dragon, and approached the word wall, when a coffin popped open and a Dragon Priest attacked me. I was not expecting that.

The first part of Blood on the Ice where you investigare Hjerim for the first time absolutely terrified me; I didn't know what to expect and the the ambience of that house in the contexts of what was going on really chilled me to the core. Otherwise, I frequently jump at surprise draugar attacks or when a bear makes a sudden appearance.

I've got scared to death when a dragon arrived, the PS3 started to make an awful loud sound and then it froze. After restarting it had to rebuild the file system. THAT has been scaring!!

Otherwise… Skyrim is not scaring at all. Maybe Oblivion had some interesting creepy places.

The game doesn't seem to have anything very spooky in it, sounds or enemy appearances. Some have arachnophobia (spider phobia) though. I think it's all part of making the game suitable for almost everyone.

Daggerfall was very spooky with the ambient sounds and scary enemy screams. And there dungeons were random mazes with many intersections.
I remember a very scary looking undead lord in Morrowind that dropped me from my chair once. It was probably from a mod though.

I have a feeling it had to do with the excellent dungeon ambiance(especially the sound), along with enemies actually being dangerous.
Most of that can be fixed with mods. I just installed an ambient sound mod (Sounds of Skyrim), and it's starting to be a bit spooky in dungeons.
