One of my methods is to buy a new game and start playing it. Usually getting absorbed into a narrative takes my mind off of things.

There's a way to cheer up when feeling down?!

Seriously, I don't know because i'm down nearly all the time and i'm starting to think I should see a doctor about it.... maybe.

You could always create an anonymous blog and vent your frustrations/depressions to the world and put a whole bunch of tags on it so you know people will see it. Shouting at others always seems to help people feel better about themselves....

Serious response: Video games and sensual music usually.

I punch children and take their candy.

These aren't (all) things I do, but they are things I'd recommend

see a doctor about it.... maybe.

Run / Exercise

Write

Read / Consume media you enjoy

Spend time with (in person, on the phone, through text) people you love

Do something about whatever is making you sad

Meditate

Think happy thoughts

Do something mentally engaging as a distraction

Do religious things, if you're religious

Embrace the sadness, feel it through, and watch it pass

Talk about how you feel, even if there's nobody who'll listen

Talk about nothing, only if there's someone who'll listen

Ask for advice from people who actually know what they're talking about

Music, both listening to what I have at hand, and finding something new.

And some times, play the mission "Death on the Mississippi" in Hitman: Blood Money, going berserk and killing everyone.

Listen to Linkin Park while leveling on World of Warcraft. That music can make anyone feel better.

Cept for the dinosaurs.

Damn, that was gonna be my serious response. I guess my next suggestion would be serial arson.

Totally not my serious response disregard this and carry on: Music.

I drink. Then sometimes that just makes me more depressed. So I drink more. Eventually I pass out, wake up the next morning, can't remember a thing and have a splitting headache that distracts me most of the morning and/or afternoon.

Me too. When I first started drinking it was great. Then a few years later it just made things ok, a little fun. But it eventually creates a vicious cycle. Same with every other mind altering substance. Moderation is key, but it's hard to do.

The other ways I make myself feel better when I'm really blue can be something simple like going for a walk, reading, writing, playing videogames. But when I feel really depressed and nothing works, I just wait for it to pass.

A walk, alone in the wee hours of the morning when its still dark. Its as if I am the only person in the world. Just me and the sweet music. Works wonders, it really does.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

That song on repeat, helped me last time I felt depressed.

I watch The Shawshank Redemption, or alternatively, just any favorite feel-good or rousing action film. Read a humorous book or anything else that makes you laugh or chuckle. Comedy & laughter go a long way.

Failing that, I go to sleep. It disrupts your ability to just sit around dwelling on how crappy you feel and the next day feels a little better for the break. :)

Depends on how seriously low I'm feeling. If its just some light stress from work or bickering with boyfriend I generally lose myself in a book or game. Or have a cup of tea and chocolate.

If its something bigger I'd probably discuss it with my boyfriend and offload on him. We would do it for each other-it's an important part of having a partner IMHO. Having someone you can talk to about anything that's bothering you.
