Where is the Fantasy

Well, how can you have a game about Vikings vs. Bears if the main enemy isn't bears? :teehee:

So in other words, i agree. Too realistic, too little monsters, to many animals bears.

I think the devs also wanted to keep it connected to the real Norse mythology as much as possible. Minotaurs are Greek, so they're an absolute no-go (and as the Imperials are based off the Romans, who had strong connections with the Greek, it was pretty fitting in Oblivion). Ogres are almost the same as trolls, and rather from French mythology (while a troll is pure Norse).
This.
Context.
You can't just start throwing random creatures into the mix because it just gets silly.

Actually if I make a list of creatures in Skyrim that either exist or have existed in the real world, the list is pretty high. Especially when compared to Morrowind.

I can also say the same about the trees and plants, again, especially when compared to Morrowind.

I never thought it was part of the TES lore that the world of TES eventually becomes the land we live in now (like LotR). I would have loved to have seen some more fantastical plants/trees and creatures.

Of course OB was the first to really do this. Skyrim is just following the same format. I can hardly image what Morrowind would have looked like with Skyrim's graphics, but it would have been the most incredible fantasy setting ever in a rpg.

All i know is in terms of creatures, Morrowind>Skyrim>Oblivion. Pretty much everything in Morrowind was a new creature you had never seen before, and while Skyrim does have a handful of new creatures, it needs much more... This game feels more like Fallout to me then an Elder Scroll game.

Actually, no. Morrowind is the anomaly in the Elder Scrolls series. The landscape and even many of the creatures in the previous games (Arena and Daggerfall) were much more akin to Oblivion than to Morrowind.

well to be honest while reading the Lore of Skyrim theyve kept pretty true to it, its a cold desolete land and most creatures are just ya'know...yeh nothing spectacular really Morrwind had more creature types as it's much more of an ''alien'' province, oblvion obviously had the gates but again so densley populated that many creatures have moved on.

High Rock
Elsewyr
Blackmarsh
Redguard

much more, mark my words! i'd prefer them to stay true to lore than add a sparkly Unicorn or a yellow duck that barks, (yeh yeh, just random examples dont take those as suggestions)

This is a game full of magical creatures on a fantasy world with more then one moon and you ask wheres the fantasy?

Why ask dumb questions to rant about the creatures you miss from previous games?

I agree. The selection is too boring.

There should be fairies, unicorns, ogres, goblins, mermaids, and all kinds of creatures.

Instead there trolls, dragons, wisp mothers, elementals and spriggans. That's not enough. Bears, sabre cats, wolves, and deer etc get boring after a point. You're playing a fantasy game, you expect lots and lots of fantasy beings.

At one point, I thought, fallouts got more crazy stuff than this game. At least that's got deathclaws, mutated animals, and mutants. The beings stand out.
Yes, I started missing deathclaws. I just wanted something cool, with big claws that stood out and was interesting.

goblins, Ogres (basivally giants...really...just....fat....)

Mermaids....theres not enough water in Skyrim to warrant those, in my opinion.

Dragons are a pretty common fantasy item, as are "undead" beings such as draugr [zombies], skeletons, etc. As are vampires. I'm talking about uncommon, some interesting stuff. Some newness.

Also Dragons do not exist in my game because I have not hit the MQ. I'm leveling up for that.

edit-

We couldn't have mermaids because they took out underwater combat unlike Oblivion where you could slice some fish.

Also I hardly call the Dwemer machines fantastical.

Not necessarily - you're confusing High fantasy with Low Fantasy.
Skyrim is Low Fantasy - ergo it's more quasi-realistic, "harder" - if you will.

Fantasy does not necessarily involve "Fantastical Creatures" any more than science fiction has to involve green aliens and FTL travel.

I absolutely agree and don't get me wrong I like Skyrim. Just sometimes it be nice to be treated to something like "what is that". There are a lot of "norse mythology" and "norse fairytales" that could work. A quest based on some sort of ancient fairytale would be kind of interesting.

It still could be low fantasy, but with fantastical moments. Magical moments. Fairytalish.

I put it to you that the Wisp-Mother, the Hagraven, and the Troll - (to name but 3) - are the embodiments of fairy (faerie?) tales told to children...

Well, Skyrim isn't known for being 'magical' so I think it's fine.

Maybe I'm not high level enough.

But I have not seen a Wisp-mother before and no trolls even though Deimos spends most of his hours no fast travel in the wilds. And even if I did see a troll I'd run my butt off.

Spoiler
Continuing further past Orphan Rock there is a small Nord ruin called http://www.uesp.net/maps/srmap/srmap.shtml?centeron=North+Skybound+Watch. Going trough this small dungeon you come out at different place, that has alway Wispmother just outside. Other place where one is, and a troll too, is following the road north from Ivarstead, and crossing the river at the shallow part past the troll den.

...and?

Fallout is sci-fi (well, more like SCIENCE!-fiction :hehe:), Skyrim is fantasy.
