At which age do you see yourself not playing games like Skyr

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:44 am

I felt like that in the late '90s, nothing much inspired me, but the last 10 years has seen a huge revival in my gameplaying. I think maybe we'll need the occasional break, but stopping entirely? Nah.

Skyrim has really annoyed me. I want to love it and be absorbed for 10 hours at a time, but I just can't. I can't even be bothered to go out and buy kingdoms of amalur, even though it looks really good.

A friend of mine told me he wished porm was more interactive.

I told him to go get laid.

why is it that I can imagine you imitating your Avatar when you said that?

to the OP
Skyrim: Bethesda doesn't deem me worthy of it's awesomeness for my modem-fu is slow

me: I will play games until I cannot physically play any more

I can't really imagine not playing video games anymore. It's what I've always known, I figure I'll always be doing it.

Actually Skyrim fell really flat with me too. I don't think it's my lack of interest in gaming though, I seem enthusiastic enough elsewhere, I just didn't find Skyrim very inspiring; compared with yet another stint with Oblivion I played immediately beforehand that I really got into, and even SW:TOR which isn't something I'd normally be interested in and which is actually quite annoying in a lot of ways, but which has also got its hooks into me. I think an underwhelming games experience can temporarily knock one's interest in other games for a while though, especially one that's been particularly anticipated.

I think you're right. I was beyond excited for Skyrim and I loved it for the first 100 hours, but I can barely get myself through the MQ now and it's all I've got left really. I need a new game to reignite my fire as it were. Hopefully either KoA or Fallout NV can do those.

I'll be 20 next month, and I have grown up with SNES and N64. I am down to just my PC and my Wii, but it is not the fact I grew out of it. Just not having as much time as I did when I was a kid :(

I think the idea that video games are for kids is an outdated notion held by people that are a bit out of touch with the last 20+ years of societal development.

I have a lot less time to play games than I used to, and I don't have as much patience for certain types of games as I once did. It's still my favorite sedentary way to escape and blow off steam, though. In some ways I think it helps to keep you young.

I will stop playing video games the day I stop getting amused by watching cartoons. I will always love them. I will be that one guy in the family that is really in touch with his inner child and everyone loves him.

Whatever age I die at. I've played video games since I was 3 years old; I don't see myself stopping any time soon.

Games like Skyrim are for old people, so I'll be playing that for a while. Games like MW3 however, probably in my 30s.

'I'm over forty and still watch cartoons...Okay, so it's mostly Futurama and the occasional classic like Hong Kong Phooey or classic Tom and Jerry, but cartoons are cartoons...and the notion of them being just for kids is outdated just as it is for video games being just for kids and grown ups living in their moms basemant with cheeto stained t-shirts and dirty underwear. NOTE: that in no way describes me...my mom doesn't even have a basemant...anymore.

When my hands no longer work from rheumatism, when my eyes cannot see through their cataracts, when my ears miss the cues from the speakers, when my memory fails on the hotkeys.

A better question would be how much longer will I play games.

Forever.

I vow to stay alive until they can upload my brain into a robot, where from my new body, I will continue to game forever.

Before I get to that point, I hope science comes up with some kind of neural interface that lets me get past all of those.

Already stopped. VNs have desensitised me to games. Anything I felt from games, is blown away by the things I feel from VNs. Narcissu reduced me to tears (the manly variety) and for some reason, it felt good. I was depressed, cying but I felt better than I had for some time.

I just hang around these forums becuase they are nice, dont actully play games anymore. I gave most of mine to a friend, the few left will be sold, very soon.

"Visual novel", apparently; at least that's what came up when I Googled "Narcissu". Sadly, my concentration wandered off before I could learn more.

Probably never, people who are in their 50's now never grew up with games like today, and don't really understand them. Though, my dad occasionally plays Skyrim, and he just turned 50.

Probably never.

I can definitely see myself slowing down some over the years, what with the priorities changing and all. I can still play a good FPS right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if I got burnt out on FPS and other genres for awhile. I'll always play a good RPG though.

What's to understand?

Guess I'll just have to keep enjoying today's games ignorant of my lack of understanding.

I'm not sure what you're getting at: video games were certainly well established as a mainstream pastime when I was growing up 30-odd years ago; okay, I'm 43, but there were plenty of older people than me who were playing them. They weren't all Space Invaders and Pacman...

I am one of the seven people on these forums who has not played Skyrim yet and this is exactly why I have no idea when in the future I'll get it. I'm worried that it will feel like a dumbed down Oblivion, which is what I'm hearing from most everyone.

I think what BOS was getting at is the fact that so many advlts (mostly baby-boomers, it seems) still don't realize the fact that games aren't just for kids anymore. See: the media/moral guardian outcry from every GTA game ever.
