the racist nord in the grey quarter got his throat slit by my dunmer. he had one to many beers down at the new gnisis corner club, on the way back to candlehearth hall where he was stayin the nord in question started hurlin abuse. i got a bit ahead of him waited in the shadows then sliced his throat....

Now that guy deserved what he got.

I hate that guy, gives the proud honorable nords a bad name.
The only difference is that i smashed my battleaxe in his head while everybody was there. Not that sneaky at all lol.

College of Winterhold indeed did cause the Great Collapse. Not to spoil anything, during one of Daedric quests you find a journal wherein the circumstances of Collapse are well explained.

Really?! I've done most of the Daedric quests but have never found this journal. Could you provide us with the name of the quest/journal in spoiler tags? I'm dying to read this now!

Everyone is an ass and a racist. There was always a men/mer/beastfolk division, it was just mitigated a lot by the Empire. It's a lot like Soviet Union actually. While it was around, people from Russia and the neighbouring republics actually got on quite well; once it fell apart, all the old grudges got un-buried.

The problem is that TES Nords are the lamest and most boring of all the available races. Morrowind's Dunmer may have been racist and suspicious of outsiders but those negativities were negated to an extent by having a great and unique culture, art, and political system. and unlike Nords they allowed outsiders into their native organizations (even beast races). Nords are all the negatives with no redeeming qualities at all. basically the derpy hillbilies of Tamriel.

Speak for yourself. Viking culture is boss. It's pretty derpy living in giant mushrooms.

I really don't understand the hate towards Nord's people have from this game yes some are racist and all but not all I mean come on the Thalmor are a concentration camp away from being Nazi's o yea thats right they do capture and torture people of another religion sounds familiar *cough Hitler cough* do you not remember all the different asses in oblivion and morrowind that were stuck up elves. Also once the Civil war is done in favor of the Stormcloaks Ulfric talks about making amends and forging alliances with old enemies and re-building to help the people. All he wants is for the Nord's to rule the Nord's the same as the founding fathers wanted Americans ruling Americans. Bottom line is every race has it's share of asses.

I have a great respect for the Nords of Skyrim, and the Stormcloaks. That said, no one is perfect. Let's take your argument OP:

1) Well, this is just a civil war argument, which has been done to death. And it is possible that Skyrim, combined with Hammerfell and the aid of the Dragonborn could repel the Thalmor.

2) Like someone else said, everyone is a racist. Even if you try not to be. That's simply human nature, to categorize things even if they are unjust.

4) This is more along the lines of "Trust in your strength, rather than trickery". Nord culture is steeped in honor and martial prowess. While using magic does indeed take a certain skill to wield, it's simply tradition that weapons are more favored. Hate is a strong word. The guards actually will tell you that they have a lot of respect for the Restoration school, and that Destruction magic is fine.

Why is everyone generalising and stereotyping? Nords as a whole aren't really that racist the only really racist nords I have came across are the drunk and the beggar in windhelm and Hilde from riverwood and Ulfric can't worry about the Dunmer and Argonians because he is leading an army. Its like how people say that the Altmer are the real racists of racists but no real high elf NPC has been that racist in my game it is only the thalmor soldiers who believe in elven supremacy.

Concerning Nords in Skyrim, I agree with the OP.

Nords in Morrowind were idiots, besoted by witches and left standing naked on the side of the roads. So stupid they couldn't even think to go somewhere to find a pair of pants.

Nords in Oblivion were still pretty dumb but seemed to be friendlier overall, Actually found the Cyrodiil Nord women to be quite attractive. As a vampire, my first victim was the Nord woman in Kvatch, yum, yum. My favorite companion, Vilja is a Nord, you betcha.

The wording is rather nebulous in the book I think you're referring to, I can't tell if they refer to Winterhold or to their current locale.

Who agrees that Nords are [censored]s? I hate them! Obviously this doesn't take anything away from my love of Skyrim, but I just cannot stand being near then. The reasons I hate them;

1. IGNORANCE
Most Nords tend to agree that Ulfric Stormcloak is the one to follow. Pfff. Although I can understand that Nords want their province back, they are ignorant to not face the fact that a victorious Stormcloak rebellion would only mean the Thalmor come in and smash their asses. Their best bet is most definitely to stand by the Empire for the time being, like in the Great War when they aided them in the Imperial City, because the Aldmeri Dominion is way, way, way too powerful for the Nords to fend off.

2. RACISM
Probably the most racist of the races; Orcs can be a bit discriminative of other races but at least stick to their strongholds, rather than, for example that [censored] Nord living in Windhelm who feels the need to walk through the Gray Quarter shouting insults at the Elves. Khajiits have to stick to living outside cities, any Elf is unwelcome in Skyrim, and Argonians get a pretty rough time. The Nords simply hate other races living in their province ("Skyrim belongs to the Nords!"), unlike for example Imperials who welcome anyone into Cyrodiil.

3. DRINKING PROBLEMS
Practically all Nords sit around all day getting hammered in inns, some Nord NPCs only having lines such as "are you gonna buy me another drink or not?" (or something along those lines). Even Jorrvaskr, they sit all day in their mead hall doing nothing but drink.

4. HATRID OF MAGIC
Boohoo some insane magic users following Mehrunes Dagon caused the Oblivion Crisis, therefore all magic must be awful! This attitude annoys me, magic in TES is great, and they dismiss it in practically all forms. Except of course the College of Winterhold. but they still claim that they College members caused the Great Collapse (if you ask me it was merely the Sea of Ghosts, and the College is still upright because of its magical protections.

Don't be so judgemental. The nords are less racist than the Mer. Besides - they respect strength and directness. You can't ask for more respect for virtue in a people. That makes them one of the best races.
I don't understand the argonians and have nothing against them.
I am suspicious of the khajiit, but like them also. They're interesting.
Uncomfortable with the Redguard, they seem rather.......isolationist, or antisocial or something.
Very much like the bosmer. Some of the Altmer actually seem pretty cool, just the thalmor who deserve killing on site (now THAT is a truly bigoted race.)
Imperials and Bretons - mehhh. Boring.

So: don't be so prejudiced against the Nords. They dominate the province, but are a fundamentally virtuous people. Only a true bigot - someone at home with the thalmor - would find the nords deeply unlikeable.

I won't condemn an entire race because of a stereotype but I can say that I firmly dislike the Stormcloaks for some of those reasons.

If you're referring to the journal next to the star, I could have sworn that it was referring to how the ruin came to be under water and not the great collapse. Otherwise, I didn't find it.

my experience is that elves and beast races do well with nords if they show they actually have a spine and respect for nord culture, of course there are some nord racist extremists but that's true to all races. i've seen elves, khajiit and argonians living well with nords because they ended up respecting the nord's way of life becoming sons and daughters of skyrim themselves regardless of race.
in skyrim if someone accuses you of being a spy/outsider/elf/beast, proceed to brawl the accuser. in nord culture this is not a fight per se but rather an exchange of greetings often resulting in the participants becoming friends. those who understand this can live peacefully with the nords with no problem whatsoever, those who don't just end up whining about their lifestyle and the nords see this justified because these people didn't even have the spine to actually stand up to them with honor and valor.
