Who Wants A Regular Fallout Comic?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 12:57 am

I noticed a New Vegas interview about the much anticipated comic "All Roads" where he stated if he got enough push from fans on the forums he might be able to get a regular comic series coming. http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/09/23/a-fallout-monthly-comic-book-you-could-make-it-happen/

So what do you think? I'm no comic book nut but I know that the Fallout universe has tons of potential. Should there be a regular comic about the later events of New Vegas and other things? Or for some reason not? If there was a comic series would you even order it? Discuss!! :fallout:

I would enjoy that very, very much. I'd give an arm and a leg for a comic series, just because they'd be able to go into more depth than that of a video game.

I think we should wait to read All Roads before deciding whether we do or not. That said, I certainly like the concept of having a regular series of comics, though due to any comics likely costing money they would probably be illegally posted online a depressing amount. You and I may care enough about giving Obsidian and Bethesda money for a comic but unfortunately most people don't have that kind of respect for them. All they see is the price tag.

I would read it if it was written well and sticks to the artwork I've seen in the All Roads preview pics.

I would like a comic that covered story not included in the games.

I was hopeing something like this would happen when I saw Halo and Gears of War books at Boarders. I'm not into comics, but I'll buy the Fallout comics. Playstation got a online comic store on PSN so they can start there at the least, since it should be a lower cost than producing the book. But only PS user will get it. I dont know about XBL tho.

So they got a go ffrom me :tops:

Personally I would love to get it. I haven't managed to see the artwork inside the graphic novel but I'm sure it'll be awesome. More Comics will probably mean more story and that's always a good thing in my book (no pun intended) not to mention I would love more pretty pictures to drool over.

Yes please! I've only ever read the "Preacher" series and would love to start a new one, and something Fallout related would be great. :tops:

Yup, would love it.
If they placed some issues after a game we could even find out the canon ending.

If All Roads is good then I say "Sure, why not?" If it svcks then I say "Sure, why not. I don't have to buy it."

To be honest, no. I've seen how a story line can just go downhill if it's prolonged too long. It's better keeping a Fallout comic as a one off thing, that way you can get a single strong story in one go instead of it going downhill bit by bit.

I'm hoping I can get the All Roads graphic novel, though Amazon UK still hasn't updated it's listings when it comes to the collector's edition.

Where's the maybe option?
Maybe i'd pay for it if it was interesting, maybe I wouldn't if I read one episode and it was [censored].

Maybe he just wants to do a couple of issues about one story then move on to another one?
I'd rather have several stories with around 12 maximum issues per story and then move on to another story.

Maybe if it were some kind of "Tales of The Wasteland" concept, where we followed a single story/character each issue... They all take place in the Fallout setting, but aren't nessecarily connected... Think of something like Twilight Zone, or Outer Limits... Small self-contained tales....
The Fallout series is based on the "Be Anyone, Do Anything" conceit, so following a single character for very long is bound to polarize the fans, which like most comics and tv, marks the end of the series... Following a different character each week/episode would be my preference.

Gotta be pretty big issues then because 1 story for 1 issue seems like it's too little to get to know the characters, events and locations and might feel very rushed.

Heavy Metal's been doing it for years. A 60 page magazine format comic like Savage Sword of Conan, or Heavy Metal, would leave plenty of room. That being said... It could always be done as individual graphic novels... Far less of them would be printed, but they allow for lengths of 120-140 pages. In the end, the Fallout setting deserves a mini-series or television series on a channel like HBO, as opposed to a comic series.

Or a book series. I think that could work quite well if the writers were any good.

A series of comics set in the Fallout universe would be pretty fantastic, especially if Chris Avellone was the main writer.

If it was going to be specific to New Vegas, I'd love a miniseries that delves deeper into back-stories of each of the companions or other character in the game. Maybe showing how Lily's life was like, living in her Vault as a grandmother, then her dipping and subsequent life as a Nightkin, or Boone's exploits as a NCR sniper, and even Raul's life living as a wasteland gunslinger before settling down as a mechanic.

Or, if not the companions stories, I'd love to know more about the people of Goodsprings, specifically Sunny Smiles, Doc Mitchell, and Victor. How they all got together, maybe a little bit of how their lives were before coming to Goodsprings, etc. etc.

(I know some stuff will be explained in-game, but I think comics to expand upon the characters would be wonderful :) ).

If the story works in a small amount of issues, then perhaps. Take the recent Transformers comics for example, they start off pretty well, but by about the second issues, or up to the fourth or fifth, the story begins to drag because it's been being given too much fluff and loses it's pacing.
Now consider the Fallout universe, the Fallout universe has a lot of detail in terms of back history, characters and a strong link to a series of games. However to make a story work it would need to keep it's pacing so that when the main character or characters are just talking or travelling the wastelands that the story doesn't begin to drag due to nothing happening for something like an entire issue.

Character development is important, but today's society is very impatient and demands instant results, instant rewards and instant satisfaction for next to no effort. A comic would have to cater to that in order get younger people to read it, and too much action can be the death of a comic if there's nothing inbetween to develop the characters, and the reverse of that can also kill a comic.
