Why is everyone complaining about the graphics?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 6:29 pm

Amen, I only keep postprocessing on and high textures to get 60fps, still getting drops to 50 in Novigrad :<

It could be underwhelming, I mean, weak animations, dumb AI and such but we'll see.

Eh, my only real gripe is about the faces, particularly facial animations, but Bethesda has never been particularly good with that. The amount of interactivity in Bethesda's worlds make them much more demanding on a system than most, which often means the graphics will be a bit worse than games like Witcher 3 where most everything is just backdrop and there's no interaction with it. I can sort of understand people wanting the game to have a new engine, but Bethesda has been working with and constantly improving their current engine for so long for a very good reason; Modability. They've made their games as easy to mod as possible, with no other game company having anything close, and it's all because of their engine. It's very difficult to make an engine like that from scratch, and probably would require an enormous amount of time and money. It's possible Bethesda is working on something like that, but until then, I'm perfectly happy with gamebryo/creation/whatever they call it next. The last thing I would want them to do is to start using a new engine that looks or runs a bit better but is a pain in the [censored] to mod. I'm pretty sure that would kill Bethesda's rep with the PC gaming community, and I'm pretty sure they know that.

well i always say don't buy a Bethesda game for it's graphics and the bug free experience. that is why we have mods sorry to be honest when i bought fallout 3 it was unplayable do to Games for windows live or is i call it "games for idiots" i personally refunded the game and only got it a gain a few years ago and install the GFWL fix. i guess i have learn that i need to go more on forums like nexus to find fixes to games. i know the Devs want the beast but it dosent always go that way and no even if the game is buggy as hell i will not refund it this time as i did even refund the new batman. and sry for the long rant :)

This post sums it up... If you accept mediocrity nothing changes. Fair critisism always pushes people to thier max potential.

The Order actually doesn't look that great during gameplay, imo. Super blurry and bad textures.

The cutscenes and photomode captures are nice though, since they hide most of that fuglyness.

I find it funny people seemingly forget work on Fallout 4 began in 2009.

So yeah, its kinda behind in graphics, though better then something from 2009.

There's a good reason for that....should anyone really consider Forbes a good source for the pulse of the gaming community?

Lol, that seems to be the case. ^^ In my case, I'm actually more "falling in". I like what I'm seeing because I'm looking at the visuals not as what it is but of what it can be.

Well, it's not like the way the game looks is set in stone the second you start working on it.

The game looks alright. Nothing groundbreaking but not as bad as some have stated. The last game Bethesda made that was really pushing graphics was Oblivion.

I'm pleased with what I've seen so far. Mods will always be available to increase the quality, and this way I can play Vanilla and see if my rig can handle more, then start loading up mods until my framerate drops. Honestly I prefer it this way.

I agree. You know me, pretty critical when it comes to FO, and I am impressed with the art design and graphics of FO 4. It is definitely the best looking FO game, leaps and bounds better than FO 3, better than Skyrim. I can't wait to play it, I just hope the lore and story is as good as the game looks.

This x1000000. When I saw the E3 footage, I loved how retro and colorful everything was. It really felt like I had stepped into an idealistic 50's PSA... that had also been nuked, by chance. +1

The leaked ultra PC pics looked good. Then again I have a Ps4. :)

Well that is commercials for ya. Most game commercials don't show much gameplay, but make it out like it IS gameplay, with that little disclaimer at the bottom of the screen that says "not actual gameplay footage". Beth sure likes it live action stuff, they did the same with Skyrim, and FO 3 IIRC, too. When they revealed the game, they showed a lot of gameplay footage, so that isn't anything I would critique(a lot of game reveals don't show actual game footage).

Yeah, I liked the color palette as well. It's not too colorful nor too washed-out. I'm still impress with that leaked pic that had this mysterious atmospheric fog in the distance. That pic reminded me of the atmosphere of Morrowind.

That's a fatuous notion, there's differences between the two (salient ones at that) but there's also notable similarities between two openworld RPG's based on a sense of exploration and questing...

That's before we even consider goty were every game is compared for the tawdry award of goty; the same reason that antithetical games like GTA and the last of us were compared.

Fans should take it as a compliment that they're being compared, both of them will most likely be 'great'.

OT:
People are complaining about Fallout's graphics because they are average at best, 'fans' of all people should be aware that Fallout isn't and has never been extolled for its graphical prowess. The thing that vexes me the most about this sentiment are the fans suffering from a mild Stockholm syndrome, purporting that it looks 'great' or graphically incredible; that's just not so relatively speaking.

I've noticed. But yes, probably does mean anything.

At least it doesn't have any tinting this time. And there are colors other than grey and brown, which means it's cartoony :P

Fallout 4's graphics are absolutely fine, I just don't understand the complaints. GTA 5 I see some posters mentioning, well GTA 5's world has practically no interactivity and hardly any interiors for such a large map and what few interiors it does have the best ones are mission locked and totally unavailable after that one mission.

God I love that game. Still play it as well....although its been awhile. The invulnerability spheres were essential to survive id's over the top boss levels.

On topic, as many criticisms and complaints as I have about FO4, graphical presentation is not one of them.

Least what I've seen about clothing, the bottom part skirt like clothing is fluid and doesn't stick to your leg portion anymore like in skyrim and FO3 when your running.

It looks like in the Witcher 3 clothing skirt jacket type.

Example Nvidia Gameworks clothing in TW3.

From working through the YouTube Skyrim modding tutorial for armor, the hide armor always flowed around the legs.

One of the things the tutorial fixed was a strap under the arm that stuck to the arm - but the part below the waist always flowed.
